Fresh and new 70 here, looking to get into pvp in general.
Except for training dummies, how do I actually practice pvp? I tried arenas and bgs but I’m dying in no time, I know gear is a big factor and I’m slowly farming via losses but I’d like to learn in the process. I’m rolling solo atm, I don’t think anyone wants a beginner this late in the expac

If you’re looking to get into 3’s, I would suggest reviewing articles about resume building or linkedin profiles…
this game kind of has an issue where they throw fresh players with green gear into lobbies of players with full epics and 4piece tier.
it happened to me on 2 of my fresh toons, and its annoyingf so now i just refuse to even try
just play alot of ss…dont worry about rating
Farm BG blitz until full honor gear. Then ship shuffle ques. This entire time, dont give a single crap about anything but having fun with the class and trying to play it correctly.
Youre prob gonna lose alot. Its ok. When im new and noob on an alt i just laugh at when i do something horribly wrong and say ok i should prob do this next time. Dont dwell. Just go next. Install silent shuffle if youre comcerned about getting flamed. If its a new class for you entirely, do stuff with in in between qeues to build up your muscle memory. Obsess over your keybinds until you can press them subconsciously. Pump dam and cockroach when youre in trouble. Help the homies when you can. Before you know it your rating will fall from the sky
Honestly, no amount of practice in the world will matter unless you got at least two or three pieces of conquest gear. Even if you are a decent player, you will generally get pummeled and blame it on the class sucking or whatever. But a lot of the times, it is a gear issue.
But while suffering through the gear chasing treadmill, just try to memorize your keybinds and mentally practice scenarios in your head versus classes you know will give you the most trouble.
We talkin about practice? Not a game, not a game? We talkin about practice.
Shuffle is good practice, but 2’s and 3’s are faster queues so it’s probably better/faster practice. If you get to an all time high rating then you can create alts to practice on.
BGs until you get fully geared ( or close ) and then just do SS man. Some people go real hard in the paint in SS, but it ain’t that deep unless you’re up there pushing for R1 or something. I haven’t seen too many people complaining around ~2k while playing on my Arcane Mage ( which I’ve never done arenas done ) so I wouldn’t sweat it. Go in and get some games done.
And BG blitz is probably the best place to learn your toon because you don’t have to deal with all the potions, food, and other nonsense allowed in regular BGs.
And there are fewer players in BG blitz so you will have a better chance at “fair” fights more often.
Oh wait, this is an arena post. Just do skirmishes LOL.
I tend to avoid arena, but each to their own.
Didn’t know BGs allowed all those ‘‘extras’’ that is indeed more bs to track, but then again, a massive player mode isn’t exactly a role model for balance.
Both modes seem fun, maybe its the honeymoon phase… but when I look at those premades tilt threads…
It’s typically better to just queue 2s or 3s with random low cr players

Here’s how I do it. Not saying it’s for everyone though.
Outside of that, it’s just making sure you understand why you lost and looking at logs after matches to see what you could change. Can be hard todo that in a vacuum, so it’s good to practice/play with someone. You could even record your games and watch them after or share them for feedback.
It can be tough learning on your own. Outside of practice, i’d find someone who is running your spec/build and watch them.
throwing freash greenz into a pack of 4tier epic players is like bringing ur skinny homier to the gym and making him attempt a 5 plate deadlift with no warmup

The best place to practice this is SS. Spam it. Dont look at chat, dont care about rating.
What helped me was Gladiator Losa. Even if its spammy ( you can edit what it says ) it tells you what abilities are been used without you paying attention visually to it. Soon you’ll see a pattern and what to watch out for. Turn it off in BGs though haha. I’m not good enough yet to play arena without gladiator Losa, there’s just too much going on for my old brain.
pvp though in a nutshell is having a CD for every CD used against you. With dps Cds been smaller than defensive ones it’s only a matter of time before someone doesn’t have an answer to a dps cd. All this while playing the Benny Hill theme song until someone dies.
You just gotta jump in and do it. Sure, get used to your abilities and hit the dummies a lil so you can figure sort of a rotation out, but in reality, the best way you can learn is to just jump right into random bgs.
When I’m gearing alts I only do one epic/normal a day for the CQ you get from the first win of the day. Then it’s off to Blitz to farm CQ and get some practice in.
Edit: And Ashran/WG you get the bonus CQ each season from the quest(s) there.
