After seeing the " Which Reps are you Grinding?" thread, I got to wondering exactly how people handle reputations with their characters.
I know most people do work on getting to max rep with their mains, which is something that I follow. Though its not my focus for the pvp reps. I would only run battlegrounds and what not if I feel like it and I’m not going to grind Alterac Valley to get the Frostwolf Clan to exalted, for example.
Now when it comes to my alts, the only reputations that I work to bring to exalted are the home base. For example Orgrimmar for my orc death knight, Zandalari Empire for my Zandalari, Nightfallen for my Nightborne, and Dark Talons for my Dracthyr.
My blood elf paladin is my rep character despite not being my main. I just like having all the little bars filled on a single character. Can’t wait for account-wide rep so hopefully all my characters will have their little bars filled. Other than my paladin, I don’t really grind rep on any other characters unless there’s something I really want from the rep vendor.

I’ve only had 3 mains in my like 15 years of playing WoW. Between the three of them, they have most of the reps maxed. I do my best to get the reps of each expansion maxed while it’s current. There are some classic reps I could go back and get, but since I have the 100 exalted rep mount, I haven’t bothered too much.

I may be a bit of an oddball when it comes to rep, but I really don’t care which of my alts has the reputation. Mostly, I go for rep for mounts, mogs, and pets-- all of which can be shared once obtained. However, if there does happen to be something I need for professions that I want to make, I would likely farm the reputation on that specific character.

I have random exalteds on different characters mostly from the BfA era when I forced myself to grind for ARs. A few others have their home faction, mostly done with tabards. I think I did the silvermoon grind in northrend to get the grey chicken mount. This guy is almost exalted with Rustbolt because why not, plus I wanted to paragon it for a chance at some goodies from the mechagon zone. Just never got around to it.
My current reps all suck because I avoid the story, don’t really do the whole yellow exclamation thing, plus I cannot decide on a main and haven’t been able to in 16 years of playing.
I’m pretty good at treating rep as non-content though, it literally takes something as big as an entire new race to get me motivated. I sure am not doing niffen for a mount and a pet nor the other df reps just to see more boring story.
I mean I do get some incidentally, like if there’s a quest that’s really easy or something in my way that I happen to do, I just don’t focus fire rep, like, at all.
A lot of my problems with not caring about rep stem from the rapidity with which I change characters. I only played my shadow priest for like two resets before I went back to paladin, and only like a month before that it was this guy. Roll back to before I took my last break and I was on an evoker. In SL I had over 10 capped characters, I was all over the place. Ditto Bfa. Ditto Legion. Been like that forever, actually.
The only elements of the story that I focused out was chapter one or whatever I had to do prior to 10.1 so I could skip to valdrakken on all my other characters. I think I did it on this character not reading quest text and just rushing in a few days.
I like instances and events, world quests if the rewards are right, but storyline and generic questing doesn’t do it for me anymore so I don’t really get much rep.

Don’t hold your breath, Blizzard has been “talking” about doing account wide rep since 2018.
