How do you guys feel about traps?

Come shadowlands id like to see more traps. It just seems like we have a little to no trap improvements.
Then again maybe all traps are beutiful in some way.
Each indivudal trap has its very own personality and strength. want to cc a mob? trap it.
Want to slow a mob down? get your trap to lay goey stuff.
Need your trap to knock people off the edge? Dont do that. its mean. its hurtful.
anyways… i was wondering how you hunters feel about traps. lmk
edit : im eating chicken tacos.

My opinion…but I think what we have already is pretty good.

Sure I’m always willing to accept cool new ideas but when I think about creating even more macros I’m pretty happy with what we have.

For instance m+ I find quite a few uses for trap…biggest one that comes to mind is using freezing trap as an additional kick/interrupt if the group is lacking in that aspect. Need to have quick reflexes because of travel time but I’ve gotten it down pretty good at this point.

Thats the staple of a good trap master.
i agree tho. i just love traps and want more of them in the game.
its kinda like a mini mind game.

I’d like to see a trap that increases dps…while something cool would be nice, even the old snake trap would put a trap into a little more meaningful role.

Understandable but keeping it utility based what kind of trap would you like to see?

I want my old-school snake trap back.

Tar trap having a much wider diameter would help a lot with being able to kite in pvp. It’s essentially a 2-second slow at this point, unless you run in a circle to keep them in it.

I’d like to finally see single target traps a targeted CC, OR have more benefit to landing that trap. Example of more benefit, Freezing trap should allow up to 10% damage to player before breaking.

We have to prep our traps with net, slow, or stun since we have to physically aim them. May as well not just break from any damn thing that happens. Give us a chance to get away and reward our due diligence prepping, aiming, and landing that trap

I’ve never been a fan of traps in WoW. The ice trap is the only one I think is somewhat decent.

Conceptually, it doesn’t really feel like a trap if it’s something you just throw in combat. A trap is supposed to be something you prepare in advance and then the enemies fall into it. But that doesn’t blend super well with group PvE.

Traps are supposed to be very powerful, so they mostly just let me down. Slowing an enemy for a few seconds or burning them a bit doesn’t feel like a trap to me.

Perhaps, tar trap could apply a debuff that slows them even after exiting the trap (2-3 secs). Then, it could stay as is in size/appearance, but be slightly more effective.

This was a great trap, especially in PVP. Feign, snake trap, and good luck to enemies using tab target. lol.

Yes, all the prep for little gain… Wish they had more to offer.

… I read the thread title, and was thinking something totally different.

Don’t mind me, carry on!

You have very specific ideas of how things should be. Thankfully, you’re not the only hunter in WoW.

“A trap is supposed to be…” and “Traps are supposed to be very powerful…”

I wonder where these ideas come from and why you attach so much confidence and value to them.
Personally, and it’s seemingly the consensus, traps are a great part of the game and we’re all pretty happy with them. I’d like to see adding an old one back (snake trap) or lessening the GCD on them–hard to interrupt casts with freezing trap sometimes because of GCD.

I mean from a realistic perspective of what a trap should be.

In real life, traps are pretty deadly. Or if the trap is meant to capture something alive, it’s pretty damn hard to break out of the trap. Otherwise it failed its purpose.

Not currently in pvp.

In pve traps are fine.

In pvp traps may as well not exist half the time for all the good they do.
