Last season I dedicated a few whole Sunday’s to pugging rbgs. I made it to 1.8k which I was satisfied with for the time I invested. However, the crappy thing about it was I spent more time in lfg than actually pvping. Like a lot more time! It was terrible.
So my question to the folks that have established rbg teams is: How did you get there?
Are they folks you arena with and you group up? Are they guildies or people on your friends list?
How does someone find a team?
Finding a raid group is super easy. I’ve gotten CE a couple times. But for the life of me, I can’t figure out how to get into the pvp scene. No one posts in /2 on illidan and from what I can find there are no recruitment forums.
I’d consider making my own team, as I have in the past to raid, but I don’t have the time to invest into recruiting and leading.
So what would you suggest?
I pug. It’s difficult. From my observations, there’s only a smaller fraction of PvPers that actually have a solid team that they run with. The rest of them pug. Or form groups from communities.
My advice to you is form relationships with people while pugging - talk to everyone - and ask ask ask ask. You would probably have to switch servers to join a guild. Ask to join communities as well.
I really doubt you’d be able to find a group on your server in /2. That sounds so 2014.
Connections is everything. Achievements reduce but not eliminate time spent looking, and being vocal in pug discords is the icing on the cake.
I believe back in 2014 or somewhere near that I had found someone in a random BG I was in who had hero of the alliance. I whispered him with my experience (at the time only 2300 in arena) and asked him if I could join in on any of his ALT rbg groups.
Both luckily and surprising he said yes, he would let me know when a spot is available and get me in. We added eachother to btag and I think that same night I got in.
I was vocal. Called my most important cds. “2 mins left on bubble” or “i don’t have trinket for another 30 seconds” , “dispel alphonce full sheep” as well as making observations call outs like “2 from lm to stbs” and so on. I did my best to heal as hard as I could. To follow instructions and just play to win as much as I could.
Apparently I was good enough to hop onto their main team which consisted of about 30 players or so. If I was online I’d most likely get invited. Sometimes benched, sometimes I’d be benching someone else. I always made sure to get as many btags as I could.
Everytime I saw someone who I thought was good, I whispered them and tried to add them to my btag. When you use LFG, you gotta grind out those games. Find people who are either on their alts or have high goals and connect, connect, connect.
I recently found 2 people i had known from WoD when I faced them in an RBG yolo group I was in. Whispered them after the game, reconnected and now I got one connection. Still grinding. Still looking. Always trying to be in those small circles because once you get a little higher up, everyone knows everyone. A few nobodies or nameless people here and there, but the majority will be the same people if you grind out enough games.
That’s a good question. Lol I read in the forums how ‘just finding a group/guild’ that does the content you want, at the skill level you’re at is supposed to be easy.
I pugged to 2147 so far this season, the best I’ve personally found is Btagging people who lead RBGs, and Btagging anyone who does a good job at target calling, then whispering them when you see them on and are trying to play.
But even then, you’re almost always running with different people as people you Btag either raise out of your CR range while you’re offline, or you raise out of theirs.
But if you ever find the secret to finding the same 10 people every week, feel free to let me know. I seriously envy people who have, or say they have that. Haha
Form a group, get everyone in discord, tell them keep the discord, do that 2 or 3 days in a row and you should have 7 or 8 regulars by day 3.
Keep it friendly RBGers secretly thirst to not be told to off themselves if they lose a base.
My team I type in discord “games anyone” at any time and usually we have 5 core members in 5 minutes.
