how are we feeling about the buffs to dk? is this going to make dk any better? it’s really the only melee i’m interested in playing right now. i rly like the damage rotation but i just fold to anything that looks at me even while spamming death strike.
can any dk mains lmk if dk will be worth playing come tuesday? otherwise i’ll just stick w/ other classes that i’ve been enjoying. thanks guys!
i appreciate it man. yeah, i’ve been kinda goofing around with it in shuffle and stuff like that. i’m around 2250 atm and i haven’t hit a wall yet but i do notice that dk kinda folds to physical even w/ bloodforged so it’s been kinda tough to navigate.
dk has my favorite class fantasy in the game by far and despite my riders running off and doing whatever they want it does feel good to play UH rn. thanks again for the reply.
Yeah unfortunately DK has some of the worst defensive cds. Tbh I don’t think this changes much for frost DK. It might help survive a little in between setups due to the increased healing, but once dampening hits deathstrike is too expensive compared to the damage you could do with frost strike.
The damage buffs are decent, and will be more lethal during pillar of frost/remorseless gimmick. But I don’t think we suddenly kill things randomly outside of that window. With enough uptime or heavy dampening it will help with pressure a bit, and in those cases it will be more important to resist pressing deathstrike and keep on pressuring.
If your healer is getting CCed try to stop it. If you can’t, then kiting asap is likely still the best option. Death strike is like a last resort to survive until your healer gets out of CC just like enhancement or ret. You don’t want to use too many globals or runic power on it as it does almost no damage and you will fall further behind if you press it. At least that’s my opinion. You should totally try DK.
For Unholy Magus of the dead and Festering Strike will do twice the damage they do today, which does seem substantial for improving damage. Festering strike (itself which is what was buffed) does not hit hard, but if we have actual melee uptime on a target this helps. Magus is not currently being played, but in theory it could add some damage to our CDs. It hasn’t been worth it over other talent choices due to poor damage value and pet ai. I’m not sure if it will be worth running, but it’s worth trying. I think after the last couple rounds of small buffs this should add up nicely, and festering buff should help some either way. The deathstrike buff is welcome.
DK cds are still weak compared to other classes, and we are still anti casters with limited mobility. I wouldn’t expect major changes but I think UH damage could be real and frost’s peak damage will be scarier too. Glad to see DKs get some love.
Admittedly I haven’t played much unholy recently. I have an opinion on deathstrike and frost dk, but not an expert on unholy. It should help some. I do think more people need to play what they find fun, and I’m glad to see buffs so you can enjoy your favorite class a little more.
They follow your main pet target when you tell it to attack. Or they are supposed to anyway. Mine do. Just need to spam pet attack and not leave on passive without spamming /petattack
Abom seems to do what it wants sometimes but the mages seem to follow when I tell them to.
I’m not even sure it’s a step in the right direction, but it’s a welcome buff. Reverting plate armor nerf and buffing our defensive cds would certainly help more than buffing a situational heal, but I like to see the nerf go away. May help when your healer is cced and you get chunked. Typically it’s just not worth pressing as you lose so much pressure when you heal, and that’s a good thing. We don’t want DPS to be pressing no cd heals often.
I have it keybound, this is 50/50 at best for the ghoul and has been for years. The pet army from the hero talents and abom are their own thing a lot of the time. They’ll respond for maybe one or two attack s to the pet attack button but after that they do their own thing.
Dk is always worth playing it’s the most fun class.
Death strike will feel a lot better to press. You will still need to have a chains of ice and kite mentality obviously you won’t be able to face tank CDs by spamming DS but it will feel a lot better
The change is weaker for shuffle because of the faster dampening and DK cool downs are still weak but super good for 3s
Yep we don’t even run it because of low damage and bad pet ai as I mentioned earlier. Damage may be okay now but due to inconsistency and the amount of aoe CCs it’s probably still not that great. Usually the mages seem to attack but if the target is not in los they will sometimes just potato or if they are near los obviously they will flail and fail to connect just like Tyrant for demo.
A lot better to press is generous. It will be better to press. But pressing it is still bad. Last resort. Like you said kiting is generally a better option, or just doing damage. But sometimes the healing will help. Not very helpful in 2s or shuffle, but the extra damage if welcome there.
It’s a lot of investment. Pvp talent and opportunity cost of not doing damage with the runic power. It’s mid, and gets worse with ms and dampening effects. Can help at times but it’s situational imo. Certainly a welcome change. Will help early on in 3s sometimes.
I mean this is a change dk players have wanted for a very long time. Choosing between coil and death striking is good gameplay loops.
You don’t want to make dks completely unlikable but using DS correctly post big hit + no MS on you is gonna be a big heal. Also disagree that bloodforge is a big investment since necrotic wounds is the only auto lock talent
I mean we can’t get exactly what we want and then downplay it
The thing is we don’t really need to heal usually. Our healer does that. Bloodforged is ok but takes a pvp talent. It’s not bad but doesn’t last long and you lose a lot of damage. Usually the healing isn’t required. Very situational.
Yes, it’s a good change and it shouldn’t have been nerfed in the first place. I like deathstrike too. In past expansions this would be massive too. But I feel like in the current state of the game it’s more about zugging than living until the next go. Overall damage matters a lot. It always has but matters more now, especially in shuffle.
I agree we can’t be unkillable. I think I mentioned that a few times today already. We don’t want the healing to be too high for any dps. So situational is good. Very good. Just saying I don’t think it’s huge for altering the meta. Which is also fine. It doesn’t have to be. I think it’s a moderate buff. Which is okay.
Me? I hit victory rush, if my healer is in CC. And I didn’t stop the re and I’m not rushing them down, and I’m not running away. Otherwise that’s a wasted global for sure and does nothing. Wasted cd.
If you aren’t going to die, don’t press your heal.
