Heroic dungeons dont seem like a good idea, its just a dead rush to the end.
Should I start with keys after learning some sequences?

At this point in the season, Iâd start with +2 and +3 keys. Know a few of your spells, the most common ones. Trying to learn all the spells at once would overwhelm me, so just knowing when to use the âcoreâ ones should be good. Should. Then just jump in, youâll pick up on when to use what spell for what situation.
Best of luck to ya!
People need more information.
It can vary on class, and spec in the case of Priests.
Give us the class or Spec. A character name perhaps? People can help you with your stat priorities, potential gear and stat priority, so either post on that character or give us a name so we can look you up on the Armory search here on the site.
As just general advice, I wouldnât step into mythics to learn. The best thing you can do is practice in heroics. It might be a rush, but frankly thatâs where the most mistakes are made. More booboos means people need more kisses to heal the booboos lol.
all jokes aside, itâs great practice. You need to remember a decent rotation.
You need to remember your keybinds and such withouth looking, aka practice.
You need to be able to know the fights to predict incoming damage, aka practice.
practice in heroic, is what I am saying.
Maybe Mythic 0, aka no keysâŚbut nobody runs those. So heroics.
I would even suggest some unranked battlegrounds. they are always in need of healers, even untrained ones lol. Even a new healer is better than no healer there.
Avoid regular raids. LFR might be okay, but I genuinely have no idea.
If you have a friend who knows how to play tank, do it while leveling with them. Leveling dungeons range from easy mode to chaotic messes but thats the same as endgame healing so its a pretty good way to learn as you have a tank you can fall back on.
Solo id wait til max and either try mythic 0s on a bonus dungeon week or a timewalking week. Youll get carried but can at least see the mechanics, maybe read what abilities do and how your interact with them ect.
-If you really wanna learn through suffering; focus on random pvp. Youll learn to become very self sufficient and what all your important spells/kit can do as you try to surviv 1v5s with your team off in the distance ignoring you.
Disc priest named Majawra on thrall.
I like learning specs by making new characters and learning abilities one-by-one as I level up.
If itâs a brand-new-to-you healing spec, heroics are absolutely a great place to learn. Youâll need practice with keybinds and I guarantee youâll run into situations that require you to find your CDs and see how well they work. But if you have a group of friends or a guild who run keys, thatâs probably your best bet.
DF ruined the enjoyment of healing, learn to tank instead.
Hopping right into keys and pushing to a difficulty that is keeping you on your toes and learning damage patterns is the best way. You arenât going to learn on keys you can farm with ease.
Also if you have a way to record yourself that is huge as well to rewatch your mistakes
what is your healing class?
I might be able to say a few words with Resto Shamn and Disc Priest experience.
Disc priest atm
what are you having trouble healing through?
I have just been learning the rotation so far with ivy veins and what not, I wasnt sure if I should do heroic dungeons or just jump into keys. Guild has been to busy to think of me.
Same way you learn anything. Read the spell tooltips, cast the spells, join m+ and try it out. Theres guides too, but this game is super ez so trial by fire is best.
My kid is 12 and without guides or much help from me hes already pretty decent and play well as a new wow player
id like to comment on the word ârotationâ
its not always going to be a ârotationâ
although you can successfully âwinâ with a solid unbreakable rotation,
I find that a âvariableâ works best.
meaning:
Every moment you have to make a decision on what you are going to cast and who you are going to cast it on.
I advise you not to get too caught up into this ârotationâ thing.
keep a shield on anyone who starts taking damage, you can usually get 2-3 people with a sheild on at a time
go for shield talents, shield build.
single target regular cast heals are huge with disc sitting somewhere between 75-100k regular non crit, its just a matter of "catching " them before they fall
a good goal that i sometimes dont even follow myself because im saucy is
"start healing anyone under 100% health, use your small heals, renew, word:pain to get residual heals. sheld under 90%. rapture under 50%
things can change really fast really dramatically or theyâll linger.
know when to hold your spells for mana concervation know when to use your mana.
anything under 75% use full big heal mana buster move
another best way is to know each tank the tank class is not the same
with warriors i think its both rage and the hp
paladins more on hp then mana
Druids idk their workings
dk is the Runic power and runes not the hp the hp is a yo-yo
Like it or not, but your healing will change group to group based on comp and skill level. Understanding your toolkit is the 1st step with an almost equally 2nd step being you need to start learning the dungeons even down to a mob level. A lot of people just want to focus on bosses but trash can be a far more impactful and pass/fail part of the dungeon.
advise from a pro (whos not actually a pro yet)
if things arent moving. or happening. or everything seems to stop. enjoy it. dont cast. dont hit. stand back. make sure your game is not froze by moving your character and see if anyone else is moving.
conserve mana, mana, stamina, time, on the dot strategy building moments where you get time to think about your next moves, who is around you, what you want to do next and what your priority target is next.
dont be afraid to cast, just make sure its the right spell at the right target and also, have fun
Did they change Disc drastically? I thought they only had to worry about mana management was if they had to use their Oh crap heal way to much. Otherwise their DPS rotation should be actually generating mana.
I think it needs to be an iterative process where you read some overview guide like icy-veins or whatever and you do a few dungeons to try and get practice using your abilities, starting to recognize when bosses do damage phases, etc.
Then after 5-7 dungeons maybe read the guides again and see if they make more sense or you pick up something new.
Do some harder dungeons, practice, eventually read the guides again, really dive into not just copy and pasting talents but really understanding WHY they are selected.
But at the end of the day you have to just get in there and do stuff.
