In the past if someone in the game sent me a message, and I didn’t want to see messages from them again, that I could right-click their name in the message an choose to “ignore”. However, Ive noticed lately that I cannot right-click their name and get the menu to pop-up where I can ignore them. Has something changed?
As an example: I’m leveling an alt and received an unsolicited message from a player on my server who has multiple special characters in the name (making it hard to type in the name) and they said:
I do not want to associate with this person and would like to block them.
There is also no option to right click, copy character name? You can then /ignore (paste character name) to reach the same effect.
Nothing happens (no pop-up window) when I right-click the name in the whispered message. I looked at my ignore list and only has 2 people
That screams of a corrupted ui while logged outa game and launcher delete or rename the cache interface folders that should allow you to ignore them.

So, I should go to
World of Warcraft
→ retail
→ Cache
and rename the Cache folder to something like “cacheold” then restart the game?

It created a whole new Cache folder with new subfolders. Now to wait and see if someone messages me in game to find out if it will work now

Another thing that may be if the person was from a connected realm. It may take you specifically typing /ignore fred-eonar or whatever the realm is that they’re located on. If you don’t have a Fred there on Aerie Peak, just hitting ignore might not do the trick since there isn’t anyone to ignore. All the alt-codes would have likely played havoc.
If you’re not sure, try shift-clicking their name and it should give you the player information. Even with the alt codes, if you right click over the name, it should give you an option to copy that person’s name. then you can do /ignore paste the name-realm.

One other b thing to check would be to make sure the chat frame is marked interactive.
Right click the chat frame and there should be an option you can mark

You don’t need to rename the cache folder, feel free to just delete that one. There is no reason to back up anything in cache. Interface and WTF you want to rename rather than outright delete because those folders store addon settings. If the problem is fixed, then you can restore your addon settings with the stuff in the renamed folders.

Its happened again just now, both this person AND the former person were on the same server as am I. This new whisper is the same way - I cannot right-click the name and ignore them, right-click still does nothing. My ignore list only have 2 people on it, and I have created a new cache as Darthwrath had suggested and it’d still now working as intended.
The second person did not have funky character in the name so I was able to type /ignore and that worked.

Is it a player or someone claiming to be blizzard.
This is how to reset the interface correctly as this could be an addon interfering with ignoring them:

Next time it happens I will turn off all add-ons to see if I can right-click the name to ignore the person. Thanks, I hadn’t thought add-ons might be at fault.
Turning off addons wont fix the issues your just putting a bandaid on the problem rip it off and do a proper ui reset.

There is an addon from Curseforge called Paste. It allows you to copy and paste in chat or other areas like macros.
If you have that addon, you can highlight the person’s name and hit Control-C to copy it and then type /ignore plus Control-V to paste in the name. That should put the person on ignore.

Have you verified that your chat box is set to be INTERACTIVE via right-click on it as Zungar suggested earlier?
If it looks like this when you right-click then it is set correctly:
However, if it looks like this, then you need to click on the MAKE INTERACTIVE option:

With all add-on off, I looked at all 3 of my tabs and none of the lists say anything about interactive, or non-interactive.
My solution is that I just tured OFF all whispers.
You would be right-clicking the top of the chat box (where it says General, Combat, etc.).

I get that.
I right-click the tab and it shows me the selections…
Say
Emote
Tell
Guild Chat
Officer Chat
Guild Announce
Achievement Announce
Whisper
Blizzard Whisper
Party
Party Leader
Raid
Raid Leader
Raid Warning
Instance
Instance Leader
Voice Chat Transcription
That’s all my choices. None say anything about interaction.
Edit: just now yet a FOURTH person messaged me wanting me to join their guild. On that tape where the whisper showed up I now have the option to make only THAT new tab interactive, or non-interactive.
