The reason why I am dismissive of people asking really basic questions (and telling them to look it up), in my experience, is because if I do answer them “straight” as you want me to, that puts me on the hook for answering a whole bunch more questions. I don’t want that commitment, and if you try to force that on me you are the one who is in the wrong, not me.
I don’t want my kindness to be taken for weakness. If I answer one really basic question, and get 200 more, it was not worth my time for me to answer the first one. And decades of dealing with this on the internet has led me to that. So yes, I will always tell you where you can find information, rather than giving you information outright - it’s not you, it’s me, and I don’t want to be abused for my knowledge.
