Housing: Each Decoration is One Time Use And Too Expensive

I was so excited about housing, I was giddy to try it out and was wiling to invest hours and hours designing my house like I’ve done in other MMOs. I was shocked to learn you have to buy each little rock, wall, tiny blades of grass for frankly a massive amount of gold.

This is literally a bald faced cash grab. Other mmos let you farm or craft housing items FOR FREE. I spent almost 100k gold to buy just ONE of each item just to PREVIEW what they would look like because the item preview is broken for almost every decor item. There is also no “ghost” preview option in the housing editor for items you don’t own, so you are forced to buy overpriced items that you might not even like! To add to that you have to make constant back and forth trips to the NUMEROUS spread out vendors to get items, which ends up being a frustrating needless time sink.

TLDR housing is exorbitantly expensive. It should be a fun casual thing to do on the side, not something that requires you to buy several wow tokens to enjoy. What a massive disappointing miss. I will not be participating in housing if it rolls out like this and I suspect a large portion of the players that were excited about it will also bow out.

How is making housing ungodly expensive “innovative” exactly? No other MMO or survival game has EVER required you to be in game rich to enjoy housing as a fun side activity. It’s fine to have players work to get items (i.e., time sink), plenty of games do this through resource collection, reasonably priced crafting, etc. I would have loved to see Blizz make a new carpentry profession.

I’m sure plenty of studios considered making housing expensive, but you know what they all decided? That it’s a horrible self-defeating idea. I don’t want to spend 100k to make my plot into a meadow with having to buy 200 of those teeny tiny grass clumps w/ 5 blades of grass each. I don’t want to spend 200k buying 100 of each different wall style just so i can experiment to see how they look.

I wouldn’t go THAT far. There’s a fair amount of people in-game that feel that way on certain items, but nobody has said - in the nutty amounts of time I’ve put into it- that they’re “bowing out” because they have to buy multiples of an item if they need them. Most AREN’T bowing out going strictly from conversations witnessed in-game.

It’s fine if it upsets you and disappoints you. You’re completely justified and on some items, I agree. Just please don’t lump the “large portion” of players who feel differently to back it up. You don’t need to do that to make that point.

Also you don’t need to log onto a low level opposite faction alt to repeat the same points. One post is enough. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Have a great weekend!!!

I bumped my post, sue me. I’m pissed, bc I was so looking forward to it. I had a nagging fear it would take wow tokens to decorate. Sadly my fears turned true. I can only hope they lower the prices.

LOL

That’s not a bump. That’s faking support, talking to yourself pretending to be someone else entirely and getting busted for it. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Stuff like that just instantly invalidated whatever arguments you were trying to make, unfortunately. :frowning:

Like I said, you’re perfectly justified to be upset. Just be GENUINE. You get more support when you’re honest.

Have a great weekend!

Calling people out is trolling. Better use of your time to just ignore it. and the have a great weekend stuff is passive aggressive. Have a fabulous and serene weekend!!:smiley::innocent:

I think you’re over-reacting a bit. You should be able to generate, in game, a few thousand gold a day, and that’s plenty to buy a day’s worth of decorations for your house. I’m a little more annoyed at alternate currencies being used, like honor points required to buy my Alliance Dueling Banner (from Wrecking Ball cheevo); or the crystals from TWW to buy some books or whatever. But gold isn’t gated, you can grind up however much you can stand to grind in a sitting, no need to buy tokens with $.

Wrong. Calling out someone that’s being completely disingenuous talking to themselves to try and make an argument then tries claiming it’s a “bump” after getting busted for it is not just the right thing to do, it’s mandatory. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

How do you expect people to back you up when right out the gate you’re attempting to manipulate them? Nobody with any kind of integrity would back up someone that’s being so deceitful :frowning:

And again please don’t presume to tell me how I feel and what my intentions are. You have a habit of that, it seems. Unfortunate. :frowning:

Have a great weekend!

Again, i spent about $100k just to see what things looked like in my house. It’s not overreacting, the prices look small but they add up quickly, esp if you’re experimenting with designs. I only bought one of each decoration. Your point is fair IF they had a way to ghost preview what decorations look like, but they don’t.

If ctrl-click isn’t working for you to preview items, it sounds like maybe your key bindings got changed in a way that it doesn’t recognize that key combination anymore. The only items I haven’t been able to preview on vendors are structural, like walls and doorways.

Housing just became the all-time gold sink for anyone: poor, rich and everyone in between.

So I’ve been doing a lot of housing testing amongst other stuff.

I’m over here at Val’zuun in Dalaran, Legion. Current price for 1 of every thing is:

850 Argunite
112,500 Order Resources
And you only get 110 points towards housing, and that is including rare items!!

A single candle costing 50 argunite and 1500 order resources seems awful :frowning: simply because 110 points for all those resources seems trivial in the vast amount of points needed to go up to level 3 from level 2

I haven’t done much with housing, so I don’t really know… but isn’t it supposed to be a long-term progression thing like gearing? Like you’re not supposed to have your whole house finalized in a week, right?

And don’t you earn stuff through various activities? Again, I haven’t tried much, but my impression is that you don’t need to spend tons of gold unless you want everything right now, yeah? In which case, it’s cool that it’s even an option to buy all the stuff up-front.

I don’t even know of a single other popular game with a housing or base-building feature that allows you to freely print out something once it’s purchased or unlocked, except for games that have (far less popular) sandbox/creative modes separate from the main game.

Also, 100k gold to buy one of every decor item that can be purchased with gold sounds… really cheap, actually. That’s less than the last two warbound bank tabs. It’s less than dozens of mounts from vendors or certain professions. It won’t even buy you a third of a monthly subscription.

Some of the secondary resource costs for certain items are a bit too high (1000+ resonance crystals for something like books is a bit too much), but the gold costs I feel are extremely reasonable and on-point with the latest updates to them.

It’s also 100% optional, pay up or go away. The game has actual fundamental problems that have nothing to do with optional, irrelevant to progress issues. Want to have all the pretty things, get your wallet out. Nothing so far costs anything near an unacceptable amount for optional content.

My main issue with the cost of things is that you need to buy these things multiple times over. Especially when you take alternate currencies into account, that becomes a little ridiculous. Why should I have to grind for crazy amounts of old expac currency just to get multiple of the same lamp I want?

Lamp? That was 3000 Order Resources and 50 argunite; it’s really that crazy high

Yeah, it IS overreacting. Like others have said over and over, it’s all entirely optional. Once more for the cheap seats - IT’S ALL ENTIRELY OPTIONAL. O.o

Like, I’m not TRYING to be mean or anything but Holy Crap, dude. Where do you get this logic from?? I genuinely want to know why you think everything should be ultra cheap or free. With a reasonable….well…..reason! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Want a preview? There’s a huge database already online that shows all of the items and models. There’s also an in-game catalogue where you can see everything too. If you want to have like an option that lets you “test place” items to see how it looks before you commit to buy? Well then that’s a great idea for a feature and you should suggest it…….without being disingenuous and manipulative by agreeing with yourself on alts.

If you don’t have the gold or resources to get the items you want for your house, you have 2 options - farm and get the items by EARNING them, or don’t. It’s not unfair. You have to farm up tokens to upgrade your gear or even EARN it in the first place for over 2 DECADES. You gunna complain the costs are too high there too? What’s the entire point of the GAME to you then!?

You have to EARN EVERYTHING in the game and in real life. Nobody is just ENTITLED to have whatever they want cheaper than everyone else just because you think it’s too expensive and / or somehow unfair.

If you don’t have the money for a Cadillac, you gunna complain that the guy down the street does and the prices are too high and you can’t afford it so the dealer should just lower their prices to what you decide is more reasonable and fair? For YOU??? Because that’s exactly what your post is all about. It’s too expensive and you want it cheaper just because you want it that way.

When I played it on the PTR I copied my character over. I went in with a little over $900,000 gold. In 2 days I was down to $750,000 gold. I farmed and worked and did what I needed to to make sure I have enough disposable gold so I CAN afford everything I want for housing. That’s how the GAME works. By the time housing launches December 2nd, I, and probably MANY others are gunna have enough gold and resources to get whatever we want because we’ve been EARNING since they’ve announced housing.

Also, earning the resources I need WHILST funding all of my alts. And I have one character for every spec. If I can fund an army of lvl80 alts AND still walk around with veritable millions in gold and resources in preparation FOR housing, what’s YOUR excuse?

December 2nd hits and I’m set right out the gate. Regardless of price. You have an advantage - you know how much things cost now. So go earn what you need in preparation…..or don’t. They’re not going to just drop everything and make it all unreasonably LOW either because some dude that tries to manipulate people by agreeing with his own insanity on alts thinks the prices are unreasonable because HE doesn’t have the resources.

It’s all a gold sink. A resource sink. A time sink. Like everything ELSE in this game. Where’ve you been the last 21+ years!? LOL

It’s also an evergreen feature, which means it’s not going anywhere any time soon. There’s going to always be more and more decor, more Housing Ranks to earn, more Endeavours to do, more items to find and / or hunt down.

It’s completely unreasonable and an overreaction because YOU can’t afford to use all of the decor in the entire game for the low low price of 2 copper. Or even more ridiculous, FREE.

When you want to put a huge table down and have it be a guild thing that’s like a 20 seater, yeah you gotta buy 20 chairs. Hey guess what? In REAL LIFE you have to do the exact same thing.

How is ALL this a shock?! :joy:
