WoW arena this expansion is the best that it has ever been (minus the first two weeks after ret paladin rework).
Exception to what is below – If you have regular pals to do premade arena with (e.g., at least one buddy to play 2s with, 2 buddies to do 3s with, 9 buddies or a guild to do rbgs with), then what is below isn’t necessarily true.
Classic Hardcore Official is more fun than doing premade arena (2s, 3s, rbgs).
Even watching streamers playing Classic Hardcore Official is more enteraining than doing premade arena.
Hardcore would be cool if it was PvP centric. Make death more meaningful from PvP via loot drop or gold drop like other games. Hardcore classic is extremely boring PvE fiesta. Honestly, what kind of masochist enjoys leveling in classic? Reaching level 10 on classic takes longer and is much more boring than leveling to 70 on retail. Just a boring PvE grindfest.
This isn’t a hot take its a take grounded in reality.
Dragonflight is objectively, in all aspects, the best the game has ever been by a mile.
There is definitely charm to throw back WoW and I think getting fun releases like that towards the 2nd / dead half of seasons is a fun and healthy change of direction
Classic Hardcore is fun up until you internalize how 99% of your deaths are due to RNG that has nothing to do with the actual game. Hyperspawns randomly turning on because someone logged in 500 yards away. Desync causing your defensive spells to register after the attack you were defending against. Carefully leveling a druid to 16, and right as you were finally doing the water form quest your internet DC’s randomly while you’re underwater but not above a fountain of bubbles.
The idea of healing in HC sounded really fun, but never again.
Well, the Classic servers have always been run on a retail client. Used to be on the… BFA one to start? Shadowlands maybe? They’re on the Dragonflight one now for a few months at least.
During Vanilla Classic they artificially put in latency to preserve the “authentic experience” of terrible internet, so wacky and wild things like two mages polying eachother could happen, and so my bloody NS heals would fail to save a target due to the bloody batching window.
my hot take is that people who say they don’t hate a certain aspect of the game but harp and moan about that aspect constantly probably actually hate that certain aspect
what do you think bourbons
I have a hot take. We need more burst in arena. That goes for both damage, and healing(for both healers and dps at that).
From an arena enthusiasts perspective, the game is probably the most balanced across classes that we’ve seen in a while. Everything feels strong or at least very viable in rated pvp. We’ve gotten what we’ve asked for for the most part. Consistent damage is higher, and proper cool down trading and damage/cc coordination can still close out games.
But from a casual’s perspective, I imagine the game is less fun. They want to know that their class is capable of dropping the hammer. Wars of attrition aren’t fun for the average player and I think we need to reverse the course a little bit so that streamers can start posting one-shots to YouTube and entice the casuals back in. That’s my hot take.
