7 million in WoW after leaving China? Is this a Blizzard official number or a streamer “mathing” for click bait.
Feels like the best launch in my nearly 20 years of WoW so
Blizzard released a graph at a game dev convention earlier this year. While the graph had no direct sub numbers, the line did begin in WoD, when we were still getting player sub counts. People were able to extrapolate rough sub counts up through DF based off the line.
Subs got so dire that Activision stopped publishing them. Shareholders were freakin’ out, so they changed the shareholder metric to “daily log ins”. This was the same time that the Follower Table and Missions were added to WoD to incentivize, you guessed it, daily log ins.
Now it’s tough to tell exact sub counts. But Raider-dot-io tracks raid logs, and that has traditionally been a good way to extrapolate player numbers. I think around 15% of players log raids in some capacity or so. That was always an historically supported number, give or take 2%. So, we can trend it that way.
To further muddy the waters, you need a WoW sub for Classic and SoD. So even if we had sub counts, it wouldn’t really tell us in retail WoW is near its lowest every number. We’d have no real way of removing the Classic folks from that equation.
There were more raid logs for Classic/Sod during S3 than Amirdrassil though. Which is interesting.
Well, you’re kind of expecting a different game completely. Of course it’s Dragonflight 2.0. They’re not just going to do away with core systems that have been in place since WoD. Might as well call it WoD without garrisons for all the similarities each expansion has had with the prior.
People really need to stop with this stupid phrase.
Didn’t stop you from claiming them, did it?
Thanks for the info. If WoW was at 7 million subs though Blizz would be yelling that number at anyone who would listen.
Even at say 1 million that is still way higher than any other similar style MMO.
It’s LITERALLY the last oficial data… You should know that…
I don’t believe Blizzard would have planned for a 3 year expansion saga if they only had 700,000 - 1 million subs. Taking into account all of the overhead expenses with only a million subs there isn’t much profit to make such plans.
There is nothing to do because the game is designed around dad gamers with 4 jobs and 10 kids.
It is DF 2.0.
The boring and deterministic power progression system makes the game feel boring and unfulfilling thus leading to burnout.
Flying and the way the overworld works has really exacerbated this issue.
it’s a shame you couldn’t find this out until after they had your money…
Only Blizzard knows. They make a crapload of cash from services and the gold token though.
Maybe the new WoW just isn’t for you.
Judging an entire expansion before the first raid is out and the m+ season starts is WILD.
Guaranteed OP pit 80 hours into the first week, did everything and burned himself out… now blames the game
Buried underneath 20 layers of shards so Blizzard doesn’t have to support servers that actually know how to handle players grouped near each other
An envoy takes what is given.
Opinions can’t be wrong and I’m not going to try to tell you that you are wrong.
I played shadowlands and quit early. Very early.
I played Dragonflight and quit early. Very early.
I do not think I am going to quit TWW early. It’s clicking for me. Part of that is I am playing two classes I have never played before and abandoning the classes I did play in the past. The other part is that while endgame has not started yet, it feels more sustainable than it ever has with the addition of delves. You have so many options and choices for keeping a toon ilvl relevant, if you need to take a break for a while from one aspect of the game you can just bounce right back.
Thats exactly how I felt, this does not feel like an expansion just another season with an island.
I agree. I think that has to do with all the time gating. Besides the zones, all of the actual new content is time gated. Everything that’s available we’ve been doing already throughout dragon flight.
This is why I didnt even buy TWW. Its just more of the same stuff.
Nothing significant has changed for end game since the legion formula.
I can only do so many reskinned expansions.
