Hot Take: Ban Doomsayers

You’d have to be terminally online to equate the current sociopolitical climate of Western countries to some random netizen on a video game forum telling you that you shouldn’t be outwardly antagonistic about your criticism towards said video game.

Yep, one thing this thread has taught me.
I don’t like Gamers.

Pretty proud of myself for going 54 (this will make 55) posts in this thread without mentioning a mustache or Putin.

Crap I just mentioned them both.

It’s kinda off topic, but I don’t really understand what’s so bad about his takes. I started to watch his streams frequently after a lot of people painted a picture of him like he was a screaming caveman who just bashes WoW and other games in form of dumb rambling. I thought I would get some entertainment out of that, but it turned out that he’s pretty chill, reasonable and diplomatic and builds a lot of understandable and fair arguments. Especially his thoughts about WoW raiding were pretty constructive and much more nuanced than 90% of GD complaints.
Sometimes I think most people judge him based on his looks/lifestyle and some 20 second clip they’ve seen once.
Would you be willing to give some more insight about what exactly is so bad about him?

The roach clip didn’t do him many favors.

I think he can be really cringe at times but there are also times when he’s on the money. My wife watches some of his clips and I overhear them.

He’s very much not PC though. I think that is what turns a lot of people off. Which is fair and I’m not criticizing those people for it, if you don’t like him, you don’t like him.

Sometimes it feels like liking Asmongold is like liking Nickelback.

Comes out with some pretty good stuff. Really popular, but people just don’t like them. I’ve never really understood why, but it’s “cool” to dislike it.

I don’t “love” asmongold, but I’ve genuinely never understood why people dislike / hate him to the degree they do

I don’t understand it either. I don’t judge folks for it but I do think the hate is overblown.

He do be hella granola and cringe though.

He definitely caters to a low common denominator on a surface level sense. But I very rarely find myself saying “bro you’re way off the mark here” when I watch his content.

And as cringe as he is, isn’t he just the epitome of a wow gamer who’s shameless about being a wow gamer? (I’m not trying to normalize what a “wow gamer” is, but I hope you take the intended point)

Doomsayers are well deserved, especially when blizz does things like fix the farmable source of bronze for end game since their endgame scaling is broken and unplayable.

I made a statement to one person, you blurted in. He isn’t everyone. lol

I do understand the point. He’s just a bearded ginger nerd that is passionate about gaming. He just like me fr.

All jokes aside though he’s just another streamer among many, all with their own biases and priors for an objective observer to parse, positive or negative as they may be.

Obvious exploit spot was hotfixed :joy:
If you watched the videos and such, it was very clearly being abused and mass farmed.

And how does that correlate with “WOW IS DEAD RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE”?

I don’t like the political commentary if im being completely honest. I think it’s a combination of that, along with other things that are actually videogame adjacent that cultivates a certain following, while making virtually no effort to keep his own fandom in check.

I’ve had a softer stance on this in the past but I’ve honestly gotten sick of it.

It’s not.

And this is fair in my opinion. I wish people would try to avoid it when it comes to games entirely. No matter their “sides” so to say.

cause instead of fixing scaling so you can farm bronze in raids and dungeons 60-70 they nerf the only viable source of it. The fun police don’t want to you enjoy the mode unless it’s hardmode I suppose. It’s one of the reasons people leave cause if it’s not working right from day 1, by day 3 no one is going to wait around for them to make it right. That is too long a wait for a live service game.

Not sure if I’ve ever really tuned into his takes where that’s concerned.

Like, as an example, he thinks it’s weird they removed Garrosh calling Sylvanas a certain word in a certain quest chain in silverpine Forest.

I’m completely on board with this. I think within the context of wow, it’s not particularly weird for a character like garrosh to call a character like sylvanas this word. But there’s a meta influence that motivates blizzard to remove it, and i fundamentally disagree with that influence.
