Hot Take: Ban Doomsayers

Well yeah the whole selective outrage, social justice warrioring, and savior complex types out there I guess feel they need to save us all.

It’s definitely nice to hope for society being better but just look at the world to see how messed up people really are. Not that it’s all bad everywhere, but things being rough in the world might be another reason for increased anxiety and anger also that gets channeled here.

Yesterday it was self-evident what people would call incendiary or “abusive criticism”. Now it’s ambiguous?

I’m not seeing the problem, if you understand what is meant by “incendiary language”.

This is the issue.

This is how it’s affecting gameplay.

This would be a good fix.

That’s feedback.

“X is trash”

“Can’t believe we pay incompetent devs for this”

“Blizz is garbage and WoW is dying, totally unplayable game”

That’s childish venting.

You’re not very good at reading for context, are you?

I mean it’s hard when someone is moving the goalposts all over the board and can’t stick by their own principles or claims.

I’m not moving the goalposts, and if you were capable of reading in context, you’d understand that.

Dealing with crazy and horrible clients should never been seen as acceptable.

You can voice criticism without being a horrible person. But like you said. So many people just need a safe space here. How can a person complain if they arent safe to be mean.

I agree.

People are incredibly sensitive to the fact they cant act like complete jerks with no consequences.

I see this a lot with younger generations, they get persuaded by some social media influencer to go on these crusades, when the reality is, they barely have a grasp of the issues.

I just want to play games and not have this culture war nonsense pushed down my throat. Its coming from the player base and the developers.

The old devs dealt with player outrage all the time and never really complained, this new generation is just so soft.

The fact that you focus on these types of comments and completely ignore the constructive feedback kind of reveals your agenda here.

Yeah. The older generations arent full of people going on social crusades.

HAHA man.

Civil Rights

Vietnam war

HAHA. Those younger generations so soft.

Member Facebook?

Member how boomers killed Facebook cause they got on it and started debating politics while demanding we accept their friend requests and like their posts?

But older generations never go on worthless social crusades.

Yes, that is the point of this thread: To call out those comments in particular.

Extreme insults or threats already get rewarded with bans, so I doubt this is was OP meant and it’s not a hot take, but part of TOS.

But reading these forums and reddits, I quite often witness lots of people who already view it as aggressive, mentally deranged or as an active personal attack against devs if someone voices their negative opinion about the game or gets annoyed because of design flaws or bugs. Like it was some kind of sacrilege to call Blizzard out for mistakes.
Toxic positivity really has grown since DF.

To say that x is trash and Blizzard is garbage are totally valid opinions. Sure, it has nothing to do with constructive feedback. Can’t really use that.
Why are you so bothered by this? Do you feel personally attacked? Blizz really don’t need players to protect and defend them.

And those complainers dont need people to disagree with them!

We need a safe space.

Its the backlash to the constant whining and complaining.

Discord is that way →

Surely whining and complaining will end the whining and complaining!

Besides an impotent thread isn’t much backlash anyhow.

We are talking about “Toxic Positivity” in that statement. People being supportive. Not whining and complaining.

Its never been sacrilege to call Blizzard out. If anything, that is a common forum past time.

Nah, not really. Even when writing constructive or harmless feedback in a friendly tone, there are still enough people who get extremely defensive about it. That’s what I meant. For some people every kind of negative feedback is ‘whining’.

No, the point of this thread was to generate outrage over nothing-burger comments.

The people that make posts like this are just insecure in their decision to play the game.

Most gamers that are happily playing, don’t give a crap what people are saying on forums. This guy probably deep down is bored to tears of the game, and is looking for valadiation to keep playing. We all do it, and you’re lying if you say you don’t.
Abricot was looking for positive comments about remix in order to keep plodding through, but wha they found was a mixed reception.

This new mode was super over-hyped, imo. If you enjoy great, but I found it to be just another FOMO money grab by a company struggling to drive engagement.

I’d agree, but I’m not defending hyper-sensitivity, and I’d draw the line there.

Criticizing a game is perfectly fine and valid, and it’s absolutely true that some people are so sensitive that relatively tame comments are read as vitriol.

But for the purposes of the OP and the words used, the discussion in which I’m engaging and with which I’m agreeing is “Worthless, zero value comments that do nothing but attack individuals or companies shouldn’t be condoned”.

If some attacks are mixed in with valid criticism, that’s a grey area, but this discussion isn’t really addressing grey areas.

It’s discussing the worst of the worst, and I’d agree that the worst of the worst don’t deserve the opportunity to communicate in the forums if they’re incapable of behaving

Once again. That is still backlash.

Does backlash go too far? Sure. But if you create a thread to be positive about WoW you will get bombarded with negative statements. If you like WoW, you will be called a shill. Or an employee. All over the forums.

If you disagree with someone’s complaint, even if they are objectively wrong. You will be put down.
