Horde on Area52 or Tichondrius?

So I’ve tried to stay Alliance as long as I possibly can and I just can’t do it anymore. My own brother went Horde this week making me all that’s left on Alliance.

So the decision is made and I am faction changing and transferring my characters to Horde. Before the sale ended I bought a bulk character transfer package. The only thing I have to do now is to decide on what server I’m going to I have friends and family on both Area52 and Tichondrius.

I am very torn on which server I should transfer to once I faction change. So I figured I would make a post here to hear from someone who has played on both servers who can give me the pros and cons to both. So please share your opinions if you have in the past or currently do play on both Area52 and Tichondrius

Both have healthy populations, so I’d recommend whichever one more closely matches your time zone. Area 52 is EST, Tichondrius is PST iirc.

I’m on Area 52, I recommend it.

But as Capslock points out, the timezone should be your main concern.

Stormrage is the same timezone as Area 52.
So, if you’re happy with that, go Area 52. If you find yourself playing after most people, later into the night, maybe you’ll want to go Tich at the cost of a insignificant amount of MS.

I’m not sure how the time zone would affect me because I have a very odd playtime. I am in the EST time zone but because I work 3rd Shift my major playtime is anywhere from 1am-1pm EST depending on if it’s an off night or if I’m playing after work

With your shift you probably want pst then I’d say

The 1am (which would be 11pm PST) scene is still going to be quiet.

So you’ll probably be waiting on people to wake up opposed to catching people before they go ton bed. So EST makes more sense, as players will be up several hours before the PST people.

So, stick to what you know and go Area 52. That’s my advice.

Yeah the majority of my play time is 8am-1pm unless it’s a off night. If its a work night I play after work and that’s 3-5 days a week

Therefore I don’t think the time zone matters either way which is why I was wanting to hear pros and cons of each server from people who have in the past or currently do play on both servers

Not too long ago there used to be PVP realms :open_mouth: Now there are only Normal realms and RP realms. When there were PVP realms Tich was one of them and as such you’ll find that there are still a healthy amount of PVP focused players on Tich. If you look at the 3s leaderboard

You’ll see 34 out of the 97 players on the first page are from Tich vs Area 52 only having 7. If you look at the RBG leaderboard

You’ll see Tich has 29 players and Area 52 has 6.

If you look at WowProgress’ realm ranking for T28 (SoD, not updated for T29 (Sepulcher) yet)

https://www.wowprogress.com/realms/rank/us/rating.tier28

You’ll see A52 and Tich are tied at first place (along with several other realms) but A52 has a larger population (of people seen doing raid content not overall) than Tich. A52 has 82 guilds that were 10/10M vs Tich at 50.

Though you can group cross realm for all content below pre-HoF Mythic raiding if you are in search of a guild.

My main realm is A52 but I also play on Tich and if I had to choose a realm to be my main today I would likely still choose A52 because of server location.

Others have mentioned Timezone but I personally don’t care what Timezone a realm is on I care what datacenter it’s located at. I live in Virginia (East Coast), Area52(EST) is housed on the Chicago Datacenter and my latency is at 32ms. The realm Aerie Peak(PST) is housed on the Chicago Datacenter as well and I also get 32ms of latency there. Tich is located on the LA Datacenter and I get 76ms to that. People will probably say it doesn’t matter and they are likely correct but given the choice I’d rather have less latency even if the difference is imperceptible.

I just transferred to Area-52 and I can say that the economy is fantastic. Want to buy 140,000 Nightshade all at once for like 17m gold? Well, you can do that, at 10g a pop.

But it’s pretty frantic in other areas. Trade chat is a mess with mount selling, mythic and raid selling, even BoP mount selling on other realms for TLPD, Aoenexx, Camel Hoarder, that kind of stuff.

General chat out in zones is actually pretty fun. Lots of chatter, tons of rare groups. It’s a pretty good time.

It seems like this battlegroup is harder to get into M+ groups though. I had a 2140 score from last season and I’m not even getting invited to 10s. There are sooooo many players with 2400+ that it’s not even special. So take that into consideration. I know Stormrage Alliance is pretty populous too, but Area-52 is another level. GL!

Thank you! Info like this is just what I was looking for. I like buyers market servers not sellers market

I also like realms that are active regardless of time of day

I have never regretted Area52 as a choice for my Horde except when new x-packs release and there are log on ques. There is always people on to help kill anything.
Same with Stormrage for Alliance.

Thank you very much for that comparison

Stormrage will press on

You have to really hate yourself to willingly roll Tichondrius

People like you is why alliance is dwindling. You have no gumption. You’re weak.

Keep that copium rolling Dwarf

I’m Mountain Time Zone, and we have no “local” servers, so I have to play other time zones.
As it happens, my Alliance toons are PT (Draenor), and my Horde toons are ETZ (Area52). I don’t think I have ever noticed any remarkable difference between them, in terms of lag, transmission, whatever.
I can’t speak for Tichondrius, but A52 is really lively for Horde, and even as a mostly solo player since my guild died, I really appreciate that. It’s just nice to have folks around in Org, and a robust AH economy.

Did you even read my reason for switching? If you prefer to stay the opposite faction of all your friends and family thats fine. I prefer to play with mine.

I very much Agree

It’ll affect your native latency on the server a little bit, though this shouldn’t be big enough to impact your experience 95% of the time.

With that being said, there’s plenty of late players on Area 52, since it’s the most populated horde server in general. I have an AUS friend playing here and raiding with a guild from like 1 AM EST start time, and about a third of my guild plays after the main raid ends at midnight EST.
