I have been reading up on this class as it will be new for me. I understand owl and cats are the desired classes but viewing a lot of information, I am leaning toward trying out a Boar as a Horde. To that end I read that after the first Boar pet. most of the later ones to upgrade skill are in Alliance areas. Is there a recommended path to level up Charge and Dash as a Horde Hunter?
Or am I crazy to consider a Boar until I level up a Wolf if I get to raid?
I always grabbed a wolf/worg as a horde hunter at level 10, but Iâm not a super duper hunter. I generally donât min/max for best results. Iâm all about the aesthetics.
Nah you arenât crazy, cats are best because they hit fast and it makes holding aggro better, but I leveled with a raptor and sometimes a turtle just fine.
If you do a google search for âPetopia Classicâ they have a great database. The pet guides drop menu has pet (family) abilities, click that then the one you want and itâll tell you ever animal with that ability/where they are and lists them by rank
edit boar might not be ideal because I donât think they have a focus dump. Bite has a CD. If you find yourself always pull aggro off your pet you may want to give something else a try that can use claw
Boar is for low level BGs and WPvP but it is not optimal for raiding at all.
That being said use the pet that you want. Getting pets in Alliance areas are not that difficult. I tamed Echeyakee during the last stress test. Man was that stressful! On live I will have Echy or Sian for my cat and Azzere the Skyblade for WPvP. All pets that are summoned by horde only quests.
Boars are great for leveling because the DO eat anything.
Focus Dump is how your pet gets lots of threat by doing spamable abilities to do more damage.
Cats and owls are the two best leveling pets, with owls being better if youâre fighting two mobs more frequently. Screech is a great pet ability - but if you want just one pet, stick with a cat, and if youâre a non-night elf it saves you quite a bit of time. You can get away with a carrion bird/bat too, honestly, so long as it can use screech.
A decent third pet is a wolf, they do decently as the armour is better than bonus health but the lack of bonus damage is the main negative.
The other pets are okay but in all honesty, youâre just gimping yourself. Especially since for the most part you wonât really use any pet other than a cat and wolf at endgame - and perhaps a lightning serpent/bat post-ZG.
Looking at Petopia Classic, I see Charge rank 2 (pet level 12) is the only one in Alliance areas: Westfall, Loch Modan, and Redridge. Rank 3 (pet level 24) is learned from taming a Razorfen Kraul boar. Apparently no rank 4. Rank 5 is in Blasted Lands; rank 6, Eastern Plaguelands.
Tame whatever you like. I mean, play the game as you want, but know that raids are at level 60: You still have 10-59 to get through. And thatâs a long time. You donât have to get the âbest pet,â because hunter wonât be the âbest dpsâ in a raid, anyway.
Just play, tame what you want. As Horde, you can get a crocolisk, raptor, scorpion, strider. Thatâs how I see it, anyway.
I prefer using Owl as horde no matter the cost of getting one.
Those allies freak out when they see a level 10-12 naked orc running around in their lands and on their boat.
Once you get the owl you can then proceed to kill all the low level nightelfs in the area until you feel like hearthing out or get camped.
