Thought I would bust this one out for Classic again since AV is upon us. Old post from back in 2012 that someone made.

Tired of Horde whiners who just don’t want to play defence. Alterac Valley is a balanced map The Alliance attacks, the Horde defends. Simple, right? Not so much, it seems.
So here’s a quick list of, yes, advantages the Horde has in the Alterac map:
- It’s harder to defend Balinda than Galv, who can fear and tank for a whole team. She can… well… iceblock herself.
- Towers are easier to defend. 2 people per tower can delay a capture by a looong time. The defensive advantage of bunkers doesn’t work once you’re outnumbered.
- Towers are faster to reach to recap. Harder to recap than bunkers, but you have more time to try.
- The horde can reach SHB before even getting to Balinda.
- IBGY is the best respawn position on the map, and it begins with the Horde.
- The trinket position for the Horde is farther from the Relief Hut flag than the Aliance’s is from the Aid Station’s. May look like a disadvantage, but actually means there will probably be nobody there when you teleport back.
- From the Relief Hut you get to see the whole base and access the situation. North bunker is in a blind spot to the Aid Station.
- The door/ramp defense of the Horde is… wait for it… way better than the infamous Alliance bridge. All aoes are on the same spot, the archers from both towers hit like trucks (the archers from the South Bunker start to hit at the very end of the bridge), it’s multishot/chain lightning/diseases/you name it heaven, easier to heal and doesn’t automatically give in to superior numbers.
- It’s easier for the Horde to offensively choke the Alliance at IWB than vice-versa at TP. Just ask Rathamus.
- It’s also harder for the Alliance to hold the same IWB choke, since they have to spread all over the ridge and protect SHGY.
- The Horde has a defensive forward choke (completely useless for the Alliance) next to IBT.
- The Horde doesn’t have to take that stupid fall damage at the race north. Just jump through the trees.
- The Horde GYs, except the Relief Hut, aren’t as easily farmable, since they’re not located inside cul-de-sacs.
Could there be more advantages to the Horde? Maybe. Are they needed? No. Please, everyone who complains about AV, take some time to think about this. Can you honestly keep saying the map isn’t balanced?

Oh man you’re gonna catch hell if you don’t march in lock step with “The bridge man, the bridge!”
LOL k…
Bridge is only good if the alliance turtle, and that does not typically happen on the 1.12 map.

the horde is being lazy. if people were to actually DO THE BG horde would win most of the time.

Yea, won the majority of AVs I did today because we defended our keep.

AV in classics iteration is a map designed so the Horde cannot win. But they win the other battles because their racials give them more control over their character (CC is the core of pvp)
I was playing BGs for a while on retail and hopped on classic today. What a change. On retail, you have 50 50 win ratios approximately. But on classic in WSG (my character isn’t 51) you get 99/100 battles won by the horde.
Classics pvp is basically rigged. I personally am finding it a yawn fest. Who wants to play a game where you know the outcome of a BG before it starts?

I don’t even like classic much. I prefer retail. My post is contrasting how in retail the same battlegrounds have 50 50 ratios (the current old AV is another story) but you go to classic and the outcomes are predictable.
That’s not a mistake
Well yea, because Horde is intentionally wanting to max honor and calls for a quick loss. Not the maps fault.
Only 1-2 archers at our towers have LOS on alliance riding in. This is a well known fact.
You can look it up. Tons of videos on the topic. One example is how the guards in bunkers make capping the bunkers longer.
Why else is the horde losing so much in AV? (based on forum posts here) It’s not a mistake that if AV was altered the ratios would change
Already told you they are doing it on purpose to maximize their honor.
they wouldn’t do that on purpose then come to the forums to complain about losing.
That’s not what they are doing.
That’s exactly what they are doing. Have you played a horde av?

I already told you I didn’t: but read the forums. Why would they complain?
The ones who make the calls to do that aren’t in the forums. Picture this: av starts, alliance run collectively to horde base and cap gys/towers. Horde run collectively to bal (middle of the map) and kill her and all lts/cap IWB/shb. Who do you think is going to win if neither side defend their keep?

I was actually surprised to see the win/loss ratio since ave was released in classic. I’d say I win prolly 30% of the games. That being said it doesn’t matter what “advantages” you come up with, they aren’t really there. However they exist for the alliance. If they were advantages explain why the horde, on every single server, have always lost to the alliance in AV specifically over its 15 years it’s been out. The only way we’ve ever beaten alliance at AV is by forming premades. I think you only see us winning as much as we are now because alliance has stuck to this Zerg strat that doesn’t always work. Like y’all do everything y’all can to avoid any pvp with the opposing faction.
horde are doing what i call “not crying.” which is them saying “you’re only winning because we let you win.” while some horde are blaming pve racials and are legit crying. lol. though nothing will ever out cry ally on pvp servers in P2. lol

the team which has a map advantage will win if no one defends.
I’m confused honestly by how losing means more honor, and what you’re generally trying to say to be honest.
Winning makes more honor from what I can tell, marks and bonus honor.
