Hope Tuesdays are not your day off

I don’t mind occasional extended outages. This has been, however, a pretty regular thing. Would be nice if that can be minimized going forward.

I think the problem for most of us is the constant additions. seriously. if they came out and said “servers will be down 7AM PST to 1 PM PST” and then launched them early? everyone would be happy.
but when you say “servers will be down 7 AM PST to 9 AM PST” and then extend it 3 hours (in hour increments) after that? yeah. it drags.

Could not possibly agree more. That’s why literally two sentences after the quote you chose from me I said:

There is literally no reason they can’t just have a standard “maintenance goes until 12 pst” and then update us before servers go live when it’s completed sooner. I don’t understand why they shoot themselves in the foot with this poor communication.

I agree. =/ I get that it’s very rough to try and speculate a finishing time, but I’d feel better about it if they…yeah, what you said. LOL. 9am-4pm maintenance? It’d suck, but at least I’d know and get it in my head that “hey, you don’t need to keep trying to login or make plans or feel bad since it’s already set in stone.”

No it has not been like this for 20 years. Used to be 1 hour MAX unless a patch dropped. Hell they used to do it without even shutting down the servers.

Literally used to be 8 hours. Maybe you weren’t playing then, idk.

Played from Vanilla up to MoP and then sporadically after that. this is simply not true.
if you said this in Vanilla i would have agreed.
in BC and Wrath they had a trend of having servers down 8 hours every tuesday for maintenance. sometimes it ran late but most the time they were good. over time they got real good at knowing how long maintenance would last, and even having points in time when maintenance was simply a server refresh of an hour or two for weeks on end. so no. this is not how this has been for 20 years.

in vanilla? bc? and wrath? yeah. as the game got further into its life maintenance got shorter, heck i remember times when servers were down for weeks on end for only an hour or two max and then back up after a server refresh. extended maintenance week after week? maintenance on non maintenance days? those are largely (before now) a thing of the past.

If you guys are this desperately hard-pressed for dopamine in the AM on a Tuesday, maybe go see if your mom will let you borrow her iPad so you can play Candy Crush for a while.

Seriously, this is not a surprise. This has been happening for twenty years. It will keep happening. If that’s a dealbreaker for you, make your financial and gaming decisions accordingly.

I like how people repeat the same rhetoric every maintenance day, every single week, perhaps in the vain hope something will change but regardless, it makes for an entertaining forum to read.

AM? its after 2 PM over here. not all of us are West Coasties. i work 5 am to 1 PM. blizzard said servers would be down for 2 hours from 7 am to 9 am (10 am to 12 pm my time) that means I should have been able to come home and jump in game. instead were now 3 hours into “overtime”. defend maintenance if you want. but don’t defend this crappy extending of maintenance.

this is also a blatant lie.

I shouldn’t have laughed as hard at this as I just did but here we are

Feeling concerned and affronted by someone’s blatant hate doesn’t constitute trolling- at least it’s how I personally find it.

I can’t control your actions, so do as you will. Just know that there’s at least one person who feels rotten for seeing hate flung at whomever because they think it’s not reprehensible.

I make my own schedule i just woke up at 1 lol its 2:30 now

Having lunch then gonna hop to it.

WHat you are seeing are a ton of people who work shift work. This IS our evening.

2pm is still in the middle of a day on a workday. For a video game, that’s still nothing like primetime. Not even the kids in High School are home from school by then.

Do you want to try and play a broken game? That’s the choice. They’re fixing stuff that would otherwise be broken.

Oh I see, did you sign up under a special TOS for just you that the game is obligated to be up exactly when you get home?

I am also a first-day Vanilla player, but I am possessed of an accurate working memory. I’ve seen about a billion extended maintenances, usually shortly after the launch of new content. Weird how that works?

depends on your workday. just because its the middle of the day for you doesn’t mean anything for everyone else.

and? you think just kids play this game?

no. i don’t. that’s why you either 1) don’t release a broken game in the first place. seriously. were a month past launch. we shouldn’t have almost daily fixes still going on. or 2) say “maintenance is going to be 8 hours” and set realistic expectations. if you saw a business advertise being closed from 4 am to 6 am and went at 8 am expecting them to be open, and they were still closed, would you consider that a problem with that business and how they run shop? i would.

no, I just know that keeping your customers happy by advertising accurately is better than blatantly lying to them all the time, unlike you apparently.

yeah back in the day maybe. guess your memory isn’t working as well as you thought it is. but then again you’ve proven to blatantly lie for a billion dollar company and argue that bad CS is a good thing time and time again. so ill just do myself a favor ignore you from now on.

I’ve worked jobs that were mostly on nights and weekends. I’ve worked jobs that started at 4am and was off at 1pm. I’m well aware of the challenges of having a schedule that’s off-kilter to the rest of the Daywalkers.

What I didn’t do was demand that major companies cater to my weird schedule specifically instead of the majority of their customers. I figured out how to order something like lunch from places that were still serving breakfast or which places like 7-11 were 24-hour so I could get something like dinner once I was off, if the games I played were offline for maintenance I did something else.

That’s just reality when you do shift work. It’s a bummer sometimes, but on the other hand you can do stuff like go to the DMV or a doctor’s appointment with less hassle.

Last time I checked, we pay a subscription to be able to actually play. My issue is not that they have weekly maintenance. Anyone who has even the tiniest bit of IT experience realizes systems need maintenance and software updates can take time.

My issue is that they aren’t honest/up front about how long it will take. People can and do plan around the maintenance schedule… I get once in a while it needing to take longer than originally scheduled. Just be realistic - INSTEAD of saying it will be an hour… then extending to 2, then 4, then 5, and then 6. It would be better for them to communicate the planned maintenance window is 4-6 hours w/ the disclaimer that it could be completed earlier. Be up front, Blizzrosoft v/s giving people who try to plan their days the figurative death by a thousand cuts.

its not sometimes anymore though. Its almost weekly.
