I think I trade everything I’ve seen of DF so far, dracthyr, evokers, dragonriding, talent trees, new gnolls and tuskarr models, the zones, all of it (except maybe Stoney Tony) for Tinkers and maybe a return of archaeology.
Not saying I’m not gonna play it, I’ve pre-ordered, and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it, but so far, the only thing in DF I’m excited for is it not being SL anymore. I’ve never had so little hype for a new expansion in the whole history of the game and I’m not exactly sure why.
We rearranged your talents.
Meh.
We updated the UI.
Meh.
There’s a new version of flying.
Meh.
There’s a derpy-looking new race that can’t use mogging and can only be one class.
Meh.
Did we mention the reskinned visage forms?
Meh.
There’s a new class with only two specs, no tanking or melee, and can only be the new race.
Meh.
There’s new zones that look like old zones.
Meh.
We’re overcomplicating professions and you can only do them in one place.
Meh.
I mean, I’m glad other people are excited about the expansion. I just wish I was. I wish there was something, anything, I was excited for. It feels like there’s just something major missing from this expansion. It’s like there’s a hole were something awesome was supposed to go. I dunno. Help me be excited for DF.
While this feedback is as valuable as anyone else’s it’s also one based on your subjective point of view. Looking through the list you made it’s clear that you have a bias and that you are in essence saying that you would willingly sacrifice all the features that others may be excited about if it meant that you got the one or two things that you vaguely want.
There isn’t really much value in the post beyond that and the only real thing to say is that it is unfortunate that few if any of the upcoming features do much for you and that hopefully the next expac will be different for you.
I do feel similar but I’m sure I’ll be excited to try a new expansion as well. Who knows what they have planned tho for us this expansion it could turn out to be pretty amazing overall.
But yeah not much impresses me much at this point. It’d take true crazy next gen tech and graphics/design to wow me.
This is a massive L on this post, The talent tree changes are spectacular and opens up a brings back much of the choice the greater community feels was lost with talents 2.0
Overcomplicating? I don’t get what you mean, professions have been laughably basic for so long that it boils down to “spend 15k on the AH and boost to max so you can use the best item from it” for a long time.
??? Not really sure what this is about, this is a really weird point.
It sounds like the game just might not be for you anymore if you can’t get excited about this.
I was in your shoes a few months ago. I took a break from WoW, and dabbled in final fantasy and then i got an Xbox series x with gamepass.
Now I actually have fun again doing Zereth Mortis dailies and unlocking new content. I’m not kidding, I am actually having fun.
Try getting an Xbox. It’s actually cool trying to replay the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games I grew up with being remastered and what not. And it’s nothing like Warcraft 3 reforged either.
In fact I love my Xbox so much that it inspired me to start a new project. I want to build a whole dang home theater / gaming living room space with ceiling mounted dolby atmos speakers, a subwoofer, and a giant 80 inch tv.
Doing anything for too long will be boring. But there’s always new things to look forward to. Even if it’s tv shows and movies, I love Helluva Boss. I just wish there were more episodes
I wouldn’t. Ever. Everything we’ve gotten from DF is infinitely more interesting than engineering on steroids in my mind.
It’s hard to do that considering it seems like you’ve already written everything we know off as nothing other than reskins and wasted effort. “Meh” translates into wasted effort. I’ve been playing the alpha, and it’s a joy in comparison to the nonsense we have now, but that’s my opinion.
(… I need to get better at writing shorter messages… ^^')
Play around with the talent calculator on WoWhead, this is a massive change
Folks have used addons for this for years but the base game’s UI has long been overdue an ovehaul
It ain’t a new version of flying, it is was flying should’ve been all along
You repeated yourself three times but alright, this is fine, if you don’t want to even try out an evoker you don’t have to, there’s a myriad of new ways to play all classes and specializations thanks to the overhauled talent trees so it ain’t gonna matter if one doesn’t even want to try Evokers, but I don’t get why one wouldn’t
I vehemently disagree but each to their own
… first time I have seen someone complain about Blizzard making professions relevant again but, I guess sure…? They are more complicated than rubbing two hands next to your ear making the same stuff until you run out of materials now I guess?
I broke it down like this to help you out because… honestly, what do you want from an expansion?
Because new ways to play current classes doesn’t interest you; a new way to explore the game and to fly around by making you have to play around with the terrain and the zone’s topography doesn’t interest you; Evokers doesn’t interest you; having a whole new continent of quests and adventures doesn’t interest you; and having a meaningful progression system that is tied with your own choices far more so than any other prior system in the game has had, since you can pick your professions and work on 'em like how you want to, that doesn’t interest you…
I can only assume that raids, dungeons, Mythic+, PvP, roleplay, or anything else doesn’t interest you either since it wasn’t mentioned so…
How can one help you be excited for something, when you are at best purposefully dismissive of anything and everything?
World of Warcraft isn’t a game that can do housing, not at least well, Garrisons are one of the better ways player housing can be done in the game, and folks disliked it, for both fair and unfair reasons, but still, WoW isn’t Wildstar, it isn’t ESO, it isn’t FF14, it isn’t Archeage, it isn’t a modern MMO in short
A new class with ‘three specs’ … why does the number of specializations matter more than how the actual class plays out?
There’s been multiple updates that increases the amount of available race-and-class combinations and very few of them has ever been successful, so this is mostly an unrealistic expectation to have
And in terms of customizations, that takes A LOT of work to make it good, but Blizzard has clearly shown that they want to do this with decoupling body types with genders, and instead numbering them (Body type 1-2, compare that to Dracthyr that has Body type 1-4; this is clearly showing that they want to at least be able to add other body types, see Skinny Kul’Tirans as an example (no idea if they will do it but its clear that this is their intention and what they want to do with it)), looking into the idea of adding pronouns which means that you can further customize your character, regardless of whether you want to be anything other than a he/him or she/her, since that opens up more possibilities to be referred to it in-game dialogue
And its pretty likely that they want to make races able to be customizable to a larger extent; I mean look at Dracthyr and compare them to how much humans had before the update, and then after they introduced the massive deluge of customization options - their intent is clear, but it takes time, development, and also timing to make things make sense and feel fair (see the issues that Nightborne had for a very long time when other races received more options and they didn’t)
The mogging rules… they have been relaxed, not in terms of armour types because that probably shouldn’t be, but they have added a lot more options with SL that were costumes that had pieces that looked like cloth, leather, mail, and plate respectively; that was usable by any class
Look, if all you want it more customization options … and you feel like DF and SL didn’t give you that (SL deserves a lot of criticism, customization options is probably not one of 'em though), and this is your first and foremost priority in terms of the game, and look I love transmogging my characters so I definitely gets you, but… no expansion will ever be built with that as its core, at least not more than what DF already has stated that they will be doing
But… honestly, I don’t think anyone can make you feel excited about DF and… I mean one doesn’t always have to be excited for everything, but still, the complaints that you have raised and things that you want from the game, it doesn’t feel like you are being honest here, because customization being the big thing you mention when you get to specify what you want, and DF with Evoker’s, profession transmogs, Dragon cosmetics, SL’s pretty extensive amount of transmog options that were both relaxed and in-line with the current transmog armour types …
You sound like you want to be looking at the game as a whole as something you want to play, but don’t want to enjoy, so no one can make you or even get you be excited for DF
It honestly just sounds like you have read too much and too many forum posts on here, berating things that folks haven’t tried playing with yet, ignored the folks who have tried it and stated that it feels good and is fun
You sound like GD personified, someone who wants to be excited about stuff, but for whatever reason - some fair and some completely random and irrational reasons, you decided not to be it; that’s honestly what it sounds like to me
Awww. It’s not their fault they’re derpy! But you know what would make them less derpy? UN-NERFING SOAR!!!
Bangarang. The old one is boring anyway, and I’ll take this over Pathfinder based on what I’ve seen so far.
Okay, but they are the best old zones. I would take HD-upscaled Northrend over … Pretty much anything else, honestly. But definitely over them doing something “new and different” like the Four Space Islands, Two (Too?) Brown Places, Dev Island (Sponsored by Squarespace), and Intergalactic Bus Depot of Shadowlands.
So am I crazy hyped for DF? Nah. But honestly, at this point I would rather they put out some bland, Force-Awakens-style greatest hits remix than another Last Jedi attempt at doing something “new and different.”
Plus, and I cannot emphasize this enough, DRAGONS. They make up for a lot.
