But you’re here now…since Blizzard does not allow non subs to post.
Unfortunately, if you have to plan ahead of time to play the game, I would just not plan to play it until much later on Tuesdays. I’ve been playing since Vanilla and that’s one of the truths I’ve learned.
I would like for them to at least hold patches, where possible, for weekly maintenance day. The constant down times we’ve seen outside of maintenance day has def been overwhelming this time around.
the problem is we see the patterns and they continue to lie us. it would be better for them to post a 6 hour maintenance period and get it up earlier than it is for them to continue to post a 2 hour time frame and continue to extend it without explanation. This is an obvious thing, and blizz can’t even figure that out.
So we pay for a month sub but can expect to lose 4 days every month? Dont sound right at all
They have. I remember maintenance lasting 8 hours back then. Sometimes several days back to back of 4 hours of maintenance. Getting DC’d in the middle of a dungeon or raid was soooo common, I remember some Guilds doing Ping checks before Pulls.
Fury of the Sunwell was an absolute NIGHTMARE when it released. And for several weeks after that.
ICC Patch was a NIGHTMARE when it released. and it was soooo consistently buggy for a good few months for many people.
That is just 2 examples in a long list of bad times for WoW maintenance. Let alone the entirety of WOD.
The ironic thing about WoW being old is that it can actually make it harder to work on, if it’s using proprietary software and/or hardware. Proprietary stuff can only be learned by working at Blizzard. A new employee will have no experience with this proprietary stuff before joining Blizzard, and from there they start at square one.
It’s kinda like that guy who was living inside an iron lung into the 2010s. Yes, iron lungs are incredibly old and well-known, but in the modern age, nobody actually uses them anymore. Servicing his machine was actually a very difficult process because there were no parts being manufactured, let alone any technicians who knew how to work with them. WoW could be something of an ‘iron lung’ to work on.
So I guess their subscriber count literally plummeting into the basement during WoD, Shadowlands had nothing to do with people deciding to leave
How do you know? How does any of us regular subs know what is happening at HQ? Whose to say that they are actually trying to make sure nothing is truly broken? I can’t. But it’s nice to be able to complain and not look for a solution, or in this case, something else to do.
I have an honest question for you - where else do you wish they would communicate. I will give you the current structure, but would love to see what else you think needs to be done.
- Post Maint schedule on Launcher, Support Website, and Twitter in advance. Usually several days in advance. https://us.battle.net/support/en/help/article/000358479 and https://x.com/BlizzardCS
- Label is as approximated or estimated
- Update the Launcher and Twitter at least when an estimate changes to something longer.
That provides constant locations both on Blizzard’s services and off in case one is down.
Is the issue that people don’t know to look at the Launcher or the CS Twitter for updates? Do you feel the updates should also be somewhere else?
Do you feel they should just block out the whole day and if it comes up early that is a bonus?
I generally agree with that. I am sure they can “figure it out” but someone made the decision to not do that for whatever reason.
Yes. The subscription costs were set during Vanilla and were priced to include down time for Maint. Then it was a lot longer than just 2 or 6 hours on a Tues. Prices have not gone up in 20 years, despite the fact that we have more up time now than we did when they set prices, and inflation. Don’t give them ideas to make us pay current rates for more game time!
I disagree. It’s not binary. Don’t oversimplify one’s intentions. Voicing one’s experience/request is not the same as expecting change or willingness to disengage entirely.
Refresh your test sever more often then. Any fixes should be tested on a fresh copy of the prod environment
Some people in relationships see and notice patterns of abuse. Does that mean since they understand its just going to happen because of this pattern that it’s ok to deal with it?
Only way to really get a companies attention today if that company is doing bad. Hit them in the wallet.
It’s a meme at this point. Everyone is laughing at Blizzard.
SoulSoBreezy: “US realms should expect a 2 hour maintenance according to Blizzard’s announcement. TWO HOURS, which translates to… I don’t know?”
At this point there should be zero expectation that you can play the game ever. Any time is bonus time. That’s the expectation Blizzard has set up.
When voicing becomes moot when this topic comes up multiple times every time maintenance happens…
Except it has not been 20 years of this. Maintenance up until recently was 1 hour unless patch stuff was getting pushed. These 3-4 hour maintenances were not normal, this is caused by a lack of QA in blizz.
Lol, that’s a cop out… As a System Engineer I agree that there’s no crystal ball on how upgrades/fixes deployments are updated… but for it to continually happen each and every week going outside their set windows is something that no other company would allow to continually happen… If anything they need to just openly set a longer window, and if the servers are up before then… great, if not… they don’t continue to tick off their customers that their free time is a Tuesday morning.
You can do it here why have to ask us to follow you on other app and system. there is the best place to do and the best place for us to finding all information. they can post on app but there as well. Is that how to getting your follower on X ?
Sure, but if I consistently underperformed and underdelivered I would be out of a job.
