Honest Maintenance Schedules

Can you, as a developer, tell me why this is always an issue? Don’t most development teams use sandbox/staging environments to test things before deploying to prod on maintenance/release day? Minimal downtime should be the slogan for any online business. This is no different. What’s so different about this process that they can’t use industry standard deployment procedures?

If they aren’t extensively testing their updates to the point of having issues upon release date then they are not good developers.

If you are a developer and do this regularly, you would not have any clients due to lack of reliability.

They don’t play their own game or even know how to balance things. You remember Waxface week one?

Always works for me

Agree. Minimum they could do is throw another free day of sub time to everyone again. Past 3 weeks has been a combined 12-16 hours of downtime beyond what they’ve originally claimed it would be. We pay to play this. And having the game down half a day every week is absolutely unreasonable.

Funny enough they do play their own game, and have for a long time. Which is scarier.

I guess they’re all gassed up from the milk and cant think straight.

Were 20 minutes from the “new” supposed uptime and server list isn’t even available. yeah. I think we’re in for another hour

Lunch break in 20 minutes. It’ll be another 2 hours :grinning:

If they really want their mind blown, I remember Icecrown going down for maintenance and it lasted over a week. That was bonkers back in the day. Some kind of critical server issue.

I never expect to play on Tuesdays

@Battle … comparing people requesting better communication for a video game is no comparison to domestic violence. Poor taste.

I have to agree with the original post, this is getting ridiculous, I wait, and then have to wait again and again, it’s plain stupidity, I’ve been playing for 19 years and it has never been this bad

before cata i would have absolutely agreed with you. i expected an 8 hour maintenance on tuesday. more if it was patch day. but as expansions went on this happened less adn less.

From a hospitality service perspective, this would be incredibly unacceptable. Things would be getting paid for.
But from any service perspective, I think some communication is at least warranted.

Side note, it would be pretty cool if they released a 90 second video explaining the on going of maintenance. What they do and what complications can occur.

From all the white condiment on your sandwich?

And yet the game has been trundling on for twenty actual real life human years with this same maintenance schedule and challenges for all that time, and millions of people still play.

If regular maintenance that sometimes gets extended, especially when there’s relatively recent major content updates, is something that you can’t tolerate, then it’s probably more effective to just play something else than it is to roll around on the ground hoping that they’ll upend their software, hardware and established practices at this point.

There are plenty of people who don’t really care about a few hours here or there in the middle of the day on a workday in enough numbers to more than keep the lights on.
