I have a 52 holy priest and I’m looking to quest because I’m having a hard time finding vanilla dungeons to heal. What’s a good attack rotation for a holy priest? I’ve quested with shadow priest before but is holy priest actually viable to kill normal world npcs with?
SW:Pain, Holy Fire, Smite, wand, wand, wand
You can smite away, but wand will save manna. You will also probably need to throw in some Shield and renews too.
That’s good advice… ^
It works all the way to 70 too… I just did it on my Hpriest. Granted… being in full T2 gear from classic helped… but I didn’t feel like playing shadow for soloing when most of my leveling was from dungeons.
I went with a hybrid spec… 5 pts in spirit tap with a few in disc and heavy holy. There’s talent builds over on wowhead which is what I used… had no problems healing or soloing between dungeons and was basically unkillable.
I don’t think you need to be holy to heal dungeons until you’re close to 70. Wouldn’t it be a little easier to roll disc or shadow until you hit level cap?
A literal potato is viable to kill normal world NPCs. They’re designed to be killed by the lowest common denominator.
Shadow is better, though, and if you’re not actually doing dungeons, being specced to heal dungeons is dumb. Go respec Shadow, quest to 60, then respec Holy and you’ll have a much easier time finding dungeons because you’ll be doing the current content instead of Classic content.
Talent points into wand spec are amazing; if you haven’t already.
I know its more viable to be specced shadow for vanilla content. I was shadow in classic realms with this priest. I went ahead and just specced holy when TBC dropped because it was a free talent change and I knew I would have to be holy for TBC dungeons.
It’s been a while since I solo’d as a holy priest, but from what I remember…
PWS early to recast mid-fight if necessary
Holy Fire from max distance
Back up immediately and cast SWP, then stop immediately
Cast Smite
Wand until PWS expires/drops…recast it and refresh SWP
Resume wand
I’ve heard that you gotta spec holy for all TBC dungeons, even the early ones. I might be wrong though.
Why on earth would you start with the instant cast? Always start with your longest cast first.
By doing the instant cast first, you are legit giving the mob an extra swing on you or a at a minimum having the mob close the distance on you faster before you have your damage abilities up.
srsly gys, u open w/ Hly Fre not SWoP
I had shadow priests and boomkins heal me through MT, Sethekk and Shadow Labs. The group can’t expect speed runs, but it’s doable.
Respec shadow and heal when needed, you can heal well enough while leveling as shadow
Yes, when you have a chance to set up before a fight, you are absolutely right. When you are surprised or already in a fight, SW:Pain starts ticking right away and is a longer dot. I guess that is the problem with any rotation. It is situational, but you are right that before the fight starts, the longer cast spell would be better.
I’ve never even played holy and I can tell you it’s pre-bubble=>holy fire=>swp=>smite and then keep dots fresh and smite or wand based on how fast you wanna kill it vs mana conservation
Priest wand it about as important as a warrior or rogue weapon.
However since you only have about 6 levels before you can heal your way to 70 just plow through it best you can. I would even consider doing some boosts like mara. It will cost you but you can get the gold back quickly in outland later.
Or respec like others have said.
Pre-60 healing with a shadow spec is doable… at least until 50+… I always found myself switching to holy for Strat/Scholo… and I’ve played a holy priest in vanilla and most expansions since.
For TBCC I took my classic priest in full T2 (cancelled before AQ) and just stayed holy with the above mentioned hybrid spec for soloing between dungeons. Healing dungeons 60-70 wasn’t a big deal but it could definitely get rough once you got to MT, Seth Halls and above and I’m speaking as someone in classic raid gear.
I’d imagine trying to heal those as shadow would be difficult and honestly wouldn’t recommend it…especially if you are in HFP greens.
Sure holy soloing isn’t the best dps… but it’s definitely doable as a filler between dungeons and you have great survivability. I hit 70 with HFP and Zangar done and barely touched Terrokar. I didn’t do that much soloing.
Yeah it’s doable… but like you said… I wouldn’t expect speed runs. My experience healing TBC dungeons in a holy spec were pretty smooth… as to be expected.
