Holy paladin is way behind of all the others healer in HPS. Can we get a buff to be on par with the other healers? I’m so tired to play another healer or dps instead my favorite spec…
To be fair we complained in PTR testing which only resulted in a 4% Healing Aura Buff. although I think not only is its HPS isnt too competitive I do think certain Talents aswell need to be adjusted, personally id also love to see BoV brought back up or buffed immensely.
It didn’t help aswell with Lightsmith getting nerfed.
Honestly, we have a lot of places where HPS could be increased.
Feel like ET/WoG and Holy Shock feel good enough for their current values, so what else we could look at?
- Beacons
- Light of Dawn
- Flash of Light (never buff this spell ever again please I beg you)
- Tyr’s Hots.
- Veneration
- Merciful Aura/s/BoS
- Aura Mastery
- Truth Prevails & Greater Judgement.
- Lightforged Blessing
- Sun’s Avatar/Dawnligh and Holy Bulwark/Tempered in Battle
Most of these has been nerfed in order to compensate for buffs for Holy Shock and WoG/ET, which was the right path to follow, however the tuning is slightly off as all of us already know.
There’s a lot of stuff that could be buffed to increase our HPS in here, since some of these nodes like Tyr’s, Merciful Auras, Lightforged Blessing and Veneration are hardly ever taken or are just underpowered (for example, Tyr’s used on CD is around ~1.5% of our overall in a M+ at most, Lightforged Blessing is similar in numbers and was nerfed 2 times already).
In my opinion, nodes like Breaking Dawn could be replaced by a choice node to buff/customize Light of Dawn, for example, increase number of targets (for raid) vs stronger LoDs for M+, or maybe a AOE heal vs stronger classic directional LoD, stuff like that.
I would like Veneration and Lightforged Blessing to be buffed so we could have maintenance healing while DPSing as well, and maybe a change to Unwavering spirit and Protection of Tyr in the same way, add a node for 10% healing increase or whatever % for whole raid, or a capped Aura Mastery for 5 targets but stronger DR for example for M+.
Lastly, LS definitely needs help since without AC being competitive, its back to feeling clunky and badly/unfun design for our current gameplay loop.
Look up the damage taken and multiply that by (3/97) and add that to your healing due to devo aura.
Honestly they just need to remove devo aura. We’re not the only spec in the game with it and I’m tired of being punished for the mitagation it provides.
I’m also totally ok with them going the lazy route and buffing beacons + reducing mana cost of virtue a bit.
They could also remove devo from ret+prot and give them different and cool auras!
I feel they need to just blow up holy like they did the original survival hunter or we won’t see much change till then. Then I feel our iconic abilities like “Bubble” Devo aura” etc keeps us in same position.
I giggle everytime me or any other paladin grabs a flag in warsong because we can’t use most of our defensives to protect ourselves.
Well its usually the bottom healer which gets buffed early in the season (like Rdruid on S1 getting a around 25%ish of aura buffs the first few weeks lol). So I’m optimistic to think we may get another aura buff soon since its just week 2 day 1.
Imagine if Devo aura was changed to just a targets get healed for x% more by the paladin type thing.
If we’re constantly going to have our heals balanced on devo aura, at least change it so it actually effects healing.
But what about prot and ret? Give prot an aura that boosts how much healing they receive. Ret aura can stay as is tho.
I commented on this last expansion, and I honestly think that there is no way to balance holy paladins without another rework, which blizz absolutly will not do so soon after the last.
It all boils down to holy being able to get so many quick or instant cast heals off in quick succession today, that if they make any of them really push heath bars on their own, they become completely brokenly OP (we saw it with DF season 2).
This isn’t really a problem this expac.
Ironically enough, the issue is the same thing that has plagued for the spec for years: the “borrowed power” of the expansion (aka hero talents, mainly Herald of the Sun) is insanely strong and the core toolkit is nerfed as a result.
Which is tied to one of the instant casts; we are sort of saying the same thing.
The only thing that will fix it is a complete rework, which wont happen
we still suffering from them wanting to keep hard casts as a vestigial component and the legion redesign relying on borrowed powers to keep hpals heads above water?
if so its been 9 years of them not picking a path forward for hpal.
Before even thinking of a rework, Blizzard really needs to decide what exactly do they want from Holy Paladins.
Do they want them to be melee healers or caster healers? They need to accept they will never achieve the “dream” of being both, so they need to pick a lane and stay in it.
Once they do that, they’ll have to rework the spec/class again and change all of our abilities to fall in line with whatever they choose.
If they have no desire to do that, we’ll always be teetering on the edge of broken OP or laughably weak.
100% spot on
Even counting the DF S2 rework, this is the closest we have been to be a melee centric healer spec in a while.
Sure we have Holy Light hitting like a truck, but its just used once every 30 secs, and FoL is not even a filler spell anymore, it’s weak for spot healing, so now its really niche spell. Tyr’s+ HoD is nerfed as well.
Right now I’ll argue the balancing issue is centered around raid vs M+ healing balance. Devo scales better for raid content than 5-man and is taxed into our HPS in all content as a result, HPS also scales on raid, with Virtue covering 5 targets (which makes Raid additional HPS but beacons got nerfed this patch, making m+ version weaker), since we lost HI we need more globals to react to damage.
Additionally, all of our passive HPS abilities are nerfed to compensate for stronger spenders (which is good), problem is they all scale better in raid than in M+ like Merficul Auras or Herald’s Dawnlight/Sun’s Avatar, specially in stacked fights for Herald as an example.
And this is not even taking into consideration LS.
Personally I feel even that is part of the long standing “can’t pick a lane” Blizzard is having with the spec.
It very much feels like the intention, was that the melee/caster divide would fall in line between the two pve modes; a melee focus for smaller dungeon content, and casting for larger raid content, and they deliberately make design decisions to if not try and meet that before throwing their hands up and just taking a shot gun out and trying to see what works.
Loving this thread. Truly.
I came here wondering why it felt so different and sometimes discouraging healing on my favorite character, hpal. This thread is so informative and glad I am not the only one feeling like we’re missing something in the HPS.
Here’s hoping they bring us up to par.
So far, Hpal healing hasnt been an issue for a godly hpal like ellesmere to time 15s, so we know its possible.
Raid HPS is 7-8% behind last I checked from middle of the pack in average according to warcraft logs, but m+ healing apparently is not that bad.
Having said that, I wholeheartly agree that holy shock and virtue needs mana changes, specially in a world where specs like MW and Disc continue to ignore that resource.
Other than that, maybe LoD stills needs a buff (or just removed/reworked entirely), and Lightsmith is back to being trash but at least I feel Herald (and hpal) feels like its back to the right track after abominations like S2 DF rework and DF S3 caster Hpally.
All of these could be a thread on its own tbh but I’ll be happy with mana changes + a small aura buff/ small buffs to some auras or maybe a small buff to spenders/holy shock. Why? Because so far I dont think Virtue windows are the problem, but the mana consumption in some fights+ healing outside of BoW (as always… who knew).
How is your season is going Azryel! my fellow paladins how are we. should I gear mine or keep playing MW monk.
