So I see a lot of people getting locked out and that certain questions must be answered such as:
When was your account made?
What’s the oldest character?
and other questions about the account.
How do I find the information to answer these questions? I wanted to write them all down for “just in case” purposes as a precaution to be safe. When I went to my account settings and clicked on the account > manage it didn’t show a creation date or any other information that I could find.
If someone could please help me with figuring this out I would be much obliged. Thank you for your help and time. Happy Winter’s Veil.
I have an old ticket from when my authenticator acted up before and I was asked to verify:
…
Hi -name-, how’s it goin’, my friend? high five
Thank you for contacting Blizzard Entertainment. This is Game Master -Game Master Name-, at your service. ٩(◕‿◕。)۶
After carefully reading your ticket, I understand that your authenticator battery is dying, and you need to get a replacement. I’m happy to help you with that.
First of all, I’m glad to receive your request, and I hope I was able to answer you in a timely manner.
The thing is, Blizzard is not longer manufacturing physical authenticators, so we’ll happily remove the authenticator from your account, and then you can use the Battle.net app as a digital authenticator.
We just need to verify some account information for your privacy and security.
Please copy the entire section below and paste it in your reply along with the answers. I know it’s a bit long, but please understand that we have to maintain solid security precautions for your own safety.
Battle.net account:
Physical game key/code attached to the account:
Serial number of a physical or a digital authenticator:
Transaction ID from a purchase (found on your bank/financial statement):
Previous BattleTags associated with the account:
Previous shipping or billing addresses:
Previous phone numbers associated with the account:
The answer to the account’s secret question “Security Question Here”:
World of Warcraft:
The creation date of any associated WoW accounts (approximate date in MM/YYYY):
The oldest WoW character’s creation date (approximate date in MM/YYYY format):
Characters names, race, and gender previous to any Value Added Service:
Recent purchases made with gold on the account (provide the character’s name and realm as well):
For any character services on the account (i.e. character transfer/faction change/race change), list the characters’ previous faction/name/race:
Hearthstone:
Relatively recent cards or card packs earned/crafted:
Recent packs opened (how many, which expansion):
…
Thankfully my authenticator started working again but I wanted to figure out / find the above information to write down for future reference. This is why I am trying to find out where I can find the creation dates, character ages / creation dates and other information.
The OP is correct. Blizzard has moved away from asking for Govt ID and is now asking a series of questions that need to be answered in a ticket reply.
I don’t think ALL need to be answered, but enough to verify the person is the original account holder.
The Govt issued ID is still an option, but not the first step.
It is the current way to prove account holder identity. It is required before Blizzard will remove an Auth for someone if that person can’t remove it themselves.
I have SMS set up so that when my physical Auth finally dies, I can remove it myself.
Right but there are a few issues with it right now:
Laws covering use and retention of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). EU especially, although US laws are pretty strict too which is why Blizzard deleted the ID when the ticket was resolved.
Players get really twitchy about giving an Govt ID to someone over the internet, which is understandable.
Younger players, over the age of 13 are allowed to put their Bnet account in their own name, but would be too young to have Govt ID. I personally still feel the best answer is to have the parent keep their name on it until the child has their ID… but yeah.
I personally prefer just submitting the ID in a single easy step, but get why the issues exist, and they have gone back to the question list. Some variation of those has been used for the whole existence of WoW. In 2010 when my first Auth died I had to call them and answer my Secret question and a few other things.
Thank you for the information. I’ll look into that. I’d still like to find out those things if it’s possible just in case they ask me again if some other future issue arises. Maybe you can’t see it and just have to guess? I’ve no idea that’s why I’m here. >.<
Regardless thanks for the link. Happy Winter’s Veil to you.
I did finally break down and get a basic phone to enable the SMS alerts, I think, but it just asked for a phone number. How do I make sure SMS is enabled so that way I may use this option when my physical authenticator perishes? Thanks for your time and help.
Edit: I looked into the battle net app but it seems MANY people are having issues with it not even working.
Game keys can be found on/in game boxes if you still have them. If you claimed any legacy games like Diablo 2 (2000), or Starcraft the key is at the bottom of your Account Mgt > Games and Subscriptions list
You physical Auth has a serial number on the back of it. Write it down. The Digital Auth has a serial number in the Settings (along with a Restore code you need to write down).
Transaction IDs they tell you, but you might be able to get that info from your Purchase History in Account Management. Or use the Account mgt info to find the right bank/credit card statement.
Previous Btags - if you ever changed your Btag, what was the first one? If you never changed it, say so.
Previous shipping or billing address. I don’t think you need every one of them, just a valid one.
Previous phone numbers registered on the account. This is pretty self explanatory, but if you don’t remember say “don’t remember”.
I wrote down my Secret question years ago when they had us change it, but I don’t know where to find that otherwise… or change it. Account Management > Security would be the place to start.
WoW
They are talking about the WoW license here. When did you start playing WoW on your first license? Aprox date. If not that license and you have others, when did you create some of the other licenses? Aprox date can be found for newer accounts in your Purchase History maybe if you bought an expansion or game time for that account.
This is almost the same a the first question. When did you start playing and make your first char. Blizzard can tell you that if you ask here on this forum nicely
Not sure how to track that Value Added Service one. I would check transaction history in Account Mgt.
Recent GOLD purchases is a memory game. You need something that still shows up in their logs which only go back about 30 days or less.
Pretty self explanatory, but your Transaction History would be the place to start. List the ones you can remember.
Hearthstone:
I would be putting "no recent play:
“no recent play”
I am not sure how to check the SMS messaging actually. I set it up more than 10 years ago and just checked under Account Mgt, Security, that it is associated with my account so that I can get texts. Texting works on the phone so I assume all is good. Blizz does not spam you with texts and it only sends something if you request it basically. I don’t think I have ever had to use it.
Thank you for your help. I’d hate to ask on the forums here and then someone else have the information that I desire. I should probably open a ticket then so that way I can write it down for future reference in the event of any issues (that I hope and pray never happens) that may arise.
