Just wanted to say these look amazing! Must have been a crazy amount of work too.
EDIT:
Here is the comparison I made to show the difference (its a link to the image on discord, not sure if it will work for others…)

I’ve been loving the upscaling a ton, I stop every so often just to look at a bit of wall or a path. Its brought so much new life to transmogs also, it really puts into contrast how pixelated the old gear is on retail now.

Right!? I hope this makes its way over to retail soon. Some of my go-to transmog pieces are from vanilla.
EDIT: I just checked a bunch of older xmogs in cata classic and they look so good! can’t wait.

Did they ever fix the issues with warrior t3?
Yea there is some jank too, like the minimap in Sholazar Basin, in the middle a huge square is just overwritten with some snowy map.

really? I was kinda shocked at the size of the data package and dont really notice much of a difference except for more glammer maybe. Googling the high res texctures for WoW doesnt produce comparisons that would equate your statement. I wonder if people used to play on potato graphics maybe?
The difference is very noticeable to me. /shrug
There’s a graphical macro you can use that sharpens textures. This is what I did and it makes a difference without having to download that textures pack.
/run local o = GetCVarBool(“ResampleAlwaysSharpen”); SetCVar(“ResampleAlwaysSharpen”, not o); print("Sharpening is now " … (o and “off” or “on”))
In graphics settings make sure resample is set to fidelityfx super resolution 1.0 and then change your resample sharpness to between 0.2 and 0. This macro will turn it on and off simply by pressing it.

I have tried that too. It makes the old textures look even more pixelated IMO. I did a close up side by side by side comparison of high res classic vs retail vs sharpened retail. The new textures are just so much cleaner.
I guess I will give it a shot again.
First time I downloaded, couldn’t really tell the difference tbh, but since then I’ve upgraded my PC (had severe CPU issues) so perhaps I can give it another go at ultra settings and see how Firelands looks.
I gotta re-download reshade too now that I think about it. Give it some extra bloom. Just a tad.

then you did it wrong. Because my game looks crisp @ 4k
if you’re going to download the texture pack make sure you back up your wow folder. I’ve read of horror stories on discords saying people lost addon settings, deleted addons etc. Reshade is also technically against TOS since it’s a .dll injection into the wow process. I’ve never heard of blizzard banning for it but just know there’s always a risk.
I got all my addons backed up!
And thankfully, I don’t use Bartender or ElvUI or anything else that drastically revamps your UI. So if I was to lose everything, not a biggie.
I use stock UI with a custom addon to lower UI size lower than the settings allow and the only 3 addons that require any set up for me are:
- Vuhdo
- TMW
- Details (lol i know)
On the topic of ReShade, I’ve done extensive research on it during BFA days and I wasn’t able to find a single person claiming ReShade got them banned. Commonly asked question, however, given that ReShade does not alter the integrity of the game, it’s not bannable.
I’ve used Reshade all of BFA, Shadowlands, TBCC and WrathC and have recently upgraded my PC, so I just never re-installed it. But I got it up and running last night in Classic already and I fired it up for my Steam as well (HD2, Insurgency and Enshrouded)
But I understand why some people caution against this. For me, after a decade+ of WoW, if they were to perma ban me, it’d be a blessing. I’m already only playing 1 toon on Retail (keys only) and I raid log on 1 toon in Classic.

No I did not. Zoom in on the old transmog textures and you will see it.
The game looks crisp, those old textures do not.

The upscaled high res textures really are game-changing and absolutely worth the 36 gig download. Can’t wait til they bring them to the other versions of the game.

Playing retail again, I’ve noticed just how pixely so much gear is, all the way up to BFA, considering just upscaling stuff from vanilla to cataclysm was already a massive file size, doing the same from WoD to BFA would take up so much space.
I’d still download it though, it makes everything look so soft and gorgeous.

Except warrior T3 and female goblins (and probably some other stuff)
