Blizzard stated explicitly they are still High Elves.
Tell them that. Donât tell me that.
I know I was agreeing with you, and re iterating that point.
No they didnât, they said they were flavour of them. That isnât really a concrete statement. For instance Nightborne could be stated to be a flavour of night elf, but that doesnât mean theyâre not their own race.
âSomething like a High elfâ is not the same as saying âBlood elves basically are high elves with a different relationship between the sunwell, and magic.â
Ion quite literally said this during the interview, that they didnât want to give players High elves, because theyâre blood elves. (vise versa) This logic wouldnât make sense if it applied to Void elves as well.
Saying they are another flavour is not saying they are a new race. Please, try again.
I really donât think High Elves on the Alliance would be such a bad blow to the Horde if they also got Ogres and/or Sethrak to balance it out. Or maybe even Sanâlayn.
Letâs face it: Elves are really popular, and itâs okay to have various elf races on both factions. Thereâs no need to keep forcing unpopular crap like Mechagnomes and Highmountain Tauren instead.
Next time prior to making a post, maybe read the one itâs in response to so you understand the context rather than making a post that makes no sense in that context.
Yikes, okay tough guy. Turbo cringe.
Iâll just drop this here:
subtext
/ËsÊbtÉkst/
noun
noun: subtext ; plural noun: subtexts ; noun: sub-text ; plural noun: sub-texts
- an underlying and often distinct theme in a piece of writing or conversation.
âin any biography the relationship of author to subject forms a haunting subtextâ
This is true, at least intention wise.
This, not so much. Thereâs little to even say that Void Elves are culturally more removed than High Elves to Blood Elves. An immediate physical change does not make for immediate cultural shift. BEâs and HEâs have been drifting apart for over a decade culturally, VEâs just are too new.
Regardless, can we all agree that for Blizzard âRaceâ is just the word they use to describe sufficiently aesthetically distinct groups?
Night Elves, Nightborne, High Elf, Highborne, Blood Elf, Void Elf: They are all âElvesâ thatâs their actual race, all variety we see is what weâd call âEthnicityâ, which itâs not only a genetic grouping, but a sociocultural one. High Elves and Blood Elves are âethnicallyâ the closer because they split a short while ago; Void Elves by our measures would be closest to BEâs, but we donât have metrics for ethnic changes caused by cosmic forces.
"Race" in WoW is an arbitrary grouping defined by aesthetic. Itâs not what race nor what ethnicity is in real life.
I am legally obligated to say:
Sethrak Sethrak Sethrak!
Honestly I really doubt HEâs would be a blow to the Horde population at all. Itâs hard to believe there are just oh so many people just hostage on the Horde because they canât be a pretty elf on the alliance.
Maybe a number of paladins, because tbh all the rest can just be VEâs now -whoâs addition barely affected the Horde-
Is chocolate ice cream the same as vanilla ice cream? Even if theyâre both ice cream? They both might have some similarities but different ingredients went into making them.
You donât use different terminology to describe a relationship to another race, especially if it was just used to defend why they werenât made available in the first place.
I just realized that the saddest part of the entire debacle is that void elves went through something possibly very traumatic, like, they barely were saved mid mutation, they were changed by itâŠ
And here we are, people denying all that happened to them and treating it as if itâs not a big deal, as if that doesnât mean anything.
It wouldnât be a blow to the Horde population. That is just all speculation.
To follow on this a bit, Worgen and Forsaken are not âracesâ by any measure. They are cursed Humans, their condition is âmagicalâ not âbiological.â They canât reproduce. Worgen remain human on their human form, and Forsaken are just corpses reanimated by necromancy.
Itâs almost futile to discuss whether Void Elves are a âRaceâ by out of universe metrics, because we already have races that are just not âracesâ. Again, in WoW race just means "Aesthetically Distinct Enough From Another Group"
And that would be fine if faction -a political distinction- didnât affect that definition, so Itâs actually more âAesthetically Distinct Enough From Another Group, More so if from the Opposite Factionâ Itâs silly, but just how it is lol.
Thats why I like to check out during these bits for the most part.
Pick one of these sentences, you canât have both.
Remember what I was saying earlierâŠ
Nah a lot more are hostage on the horde because of the massive population gap and wanting to actually do stuff during non peak hours.
