High Elf Love Thread! đŸ„°

Blizzard stated explicitly they are still High Elves.

Tell them that. Don’t tell me that.

I know I was agreeing with you, and re iterating that point.

No they didn’t, they said they were flavour of them. That isn’t really a concrete statement. For instance Nightborne could be stated to be a flavour of night elf, but that doesn’t mean they’re not their own race.

“Something like a High elf” is not the same as saying “Blood elves basically are high elves with a different relationship between the sunwell, and magic.”

Ion quite literally said this during the interview, that they didn’t want to give players High elves, because they’re blood elves. (vise versa) This logic wouldn’t make sense if it applied to Void elves as well.

Saying they are another flavour is not saying they are a new race. Please, try again.

I really don’t think High Elves on the Alliance would be such a bad blow to the Horde if they also got Ogres and/or Sethrak to balance it out. Or maybe even San’layn.

Let’s face it: Elves are really popular, and it’s okay to have various elf races on both factions. There’s no need to keep forcing unpopular crap like Mechagnomes and Highmountain Tauren instead.

Next time prior to making a post, maybe read the one it’s in response to so you understand the context rather than making a post that makes no sense in that context.

Yikes, okay tough guy. Turbo cringe.

I’ll just drop this here:

subtext

/ˈsʌbtɛkst/

noun

noun: subtext ; plural noun: subtexts ; noun: sub-text ; plural noun: sub-texts

  1. an underlying and often distinct theme in a piece of writing or conversation.

“in any biography the relationship of author to subject forms a haunting subtext”

This is true, at least intention wise.

This, not so much. There’s little to even say that Void Elves are culturally more removed than High Elves to Blood Elves. An immediate physical change does not make for immediate cultural shift. BE’s and HE’s have been drifting apart for over a decade culturally, VE’s just are too new.

Regardless, can we all agree that for Blizzard “Race” is just the word they use to describe sufficiently aesthetically distinct groups?

Night Elves, Nightborne, High Elf, Highborne, Blood Elf, Void Elf: They are all “Elves” that’s their actual race, all variety we see is what we’d call “Ethnicity”, which it’s not only a genetic grouping, but a sociocultural one. High Elves and Blood Elves are “ethnically” the closer because they split a short while ago; Void Elves by our measures would be closest to BE’s, but we don’t have metrics for ethnic changes caused by cosmic forces.

"Race" in WoW is an arbitrary grouping defined by aesthetic. It’s not what race nor what ethnicity is in real life.

I am legally obligated to say:

Sethrak Sethrak Sethrak!

Honestly I really doubt HE’s would be a blow to the Horde population at all. It’s hard to believe there are just oh so many people just hostage on the Horde because they can’t be a pretty elf on the alliance.

Maybe a number of paladins, because tbh all the rest can just be VE’s now -who’s addition barely affected the Horde-

Is chocolate ice cream the same as vanilla ice cream? Even if they’re both ice cream? They both might have some similarities but different ingredients went into making them.

You don’t use different terminology to describe a relationship to another race, especially if it was just used to defend why they weren’t made available in the first place.

I just realized that the saddest part of the entire debacle is that void elves went through something possibly very traumatic, like, they barely were saved mid mutation, they were changed by it

And here we are, people denying all that happened to them and treating it as if it’s not a big deal, as if that doesn’t mean anything.

It wouldn’t be a blow to the Horde population. That is just all speculation.

To follow on this a bit, Worgen and Forsaken are not “races” by any measure. They are cursed Humans, their condition is “magical” not “biological.” They can’t reproduce. Worgen remain human on their human form, and Forsaken are just corpses reanimated by necromancy.

It’s almost futile to discuss whether Void Elves are a “Race” by out of universe metrics, because we already have races that are just not “races”. Again, in WoW race just means "Aesthetically Distinct Enough From Another Group"

And that would be fine if faction -a political distinction- didn’t affect that definition, so It’s actually more “Aesthetically Distinct Enough From Another Group, More so if from the Opposite Faction” It’s silly, but just how it is lol.

Thats why I like to check out during these bits for the most part. :frowning:

Pick one of these sentences, you can’t have both.

Nah a lot more are hostage on the horde because of the massive population gap and wanting to actually do stuff during non peak hours. :frowning:
