do you remember that time the game director said high elves are blood elves. that a few thalassian elves identical in every way to the blood elves except their politics is aligned to the alliance is irrelevant, and that they consider high elves playable
i was working on a classic+ scenario, where all the classes would get an additional spec. the additional warlock spec was necromancer and youâd get a shapeshift with it â into a lich if male or banshee if female. pets were undead valkyr to avoid bones
Is it though? Almost all high elves almost became blood elves too, until they were exiled from their homeland due to their objection to sucking mana out of mana creatures and allowing fel crystals to be placed in Silvermoon. Lorthemar, the regent lord that agreed with the other blood elves decided that he didnât want to have a rebellion in an uncertain time to their people, so they were exiled.
Most of the remaining âhighâ elves had chosen to remain with the Alliance following the Second War, and did not return to their kingdom following the Third. When Grand Magister Rommath returned to QuelâThalas to teach them Kaelâs magic siphoning ways, some elves were disgusted by the practice â likening it to vampiric behavior â and opposed its use. Unable to lead a divided nation, Regent Lord LorâThemar exiled the dissenters from the kingdom, the exiles finding residence in QuelâLithien.
So itâs not like the high elves didnât mourn the fall of their brethren, indeed, they have more loyalty than any other race, because even through rough patches and being treated horribly by some members of the Alliance, they decided to aid and remain in the Alliance when the Horde was destroying everything while the High Elves in QuelâThalas that later became the Blood Elves were too busy hiding to help the lowly humans during the second war(And as we know, this backfired when no one came to their aid when Arthas struck).
I donât really see the connection to a thread about high elves, but a Lich is just a very powerful Necromancer, which as we all know is one of the two big contenders for the next class.
The funny thing is though, it actually works both ways. High Elves are Blood Elves, as Blood Elves are High Elves. Difference? The Blood Elves renamed themselves to honor there fallen. The others didnât. But they are all the same all together.
Except itâs not. They donât live in quelâthalas, they didnât absorb enough fel to have their eyes change, they are alliance, and they chose not to drain mana from living creatures.
Not all Blood Elves also live in QuelâThalas either.
Blood Elves didnât absorb any Fel. They were just around some Crystals that were effected by the Fel. And also:
âhigh elves typically have light colored eyes that vary from light grey to blue to green, and occasionally brown, and greyâ
Oh well, would you look at that? Green Eyes doesnât also come from Fel Radiation
And not every Blood Elf also has Green or Golden Eyes. There are some who do have Blue Eyes still, and also can be seen in game. (And I should also mention, they are not DKâs.)
Not all High Elves are Alliance, thank you very much.
they have the potential to have many different features from blood elves. for example, cultural influences. since they intermix with humans and night elves, in some cases actually having offspring with them, thereâs a generation of them that are already half elves (example arator).
they have a different diet than blood elves, if they eat foods/drinks associated with humans/night elves/dwarves/gnomes. food can really change your appearance.
they had spans of time, where they were not accessing the sunwell or using mana tap on living creatures, which means any changes magic use cause, could apply to them also.
I only half understand continuing this argument. Nobody is going to change one anotherâs minds but it is nice to shout into the void what you want.
Iâll give it a shot.
When I see NPC high elf vendors, they look kind and approachable. They donât have glowing eyes of some weird origin. They look more like me in real life than any character I have seen on WoW. Whatâs more, they are approachable by me, a member of the Alliance. They arenât doing the orders of the obvious villains, theyâre just neutral and cool. I think high elves should 100% be added as a neutral race like Pandarens. Theyâre distinct from blood elves as see-able by the NPCs around and could be made more distinct on character select by giving Alleria-esque body markings and some better facial expressions than the mild scowl to angry grimace range that blood elves have. I even made a blood elf and deleted them almost immediately because the anger that emanates from them isnât something I want to vibe with.
As I have said elsewhere on these forums tonight, adding elves to every nook and cranny is not the way to do elves in a fantasy environment, but they are already in the lore. When I read a book at the base of a burrow in cenarion enclave in darnassus on high elves, despite their inability to listen to the druids, their independent nature and spirit spoke to me and became a dream to play.
Itâs still useless to shout into this void, imo, but itâs a desire many people, including myself have. To tell people theyâre wrong for wanting something that doesnât hurt lore and isnât morally objectionable is mean and cruel, but also useless. So I guess weâre all at an impasse until high elves get put in or the naysayers stop naysaying. People that are interested in high elves have every right to keep being interested, though.
Yeah I love the Defias, and I love the idea of corrupt nobles in Stormwind. Their desire to see Stormwind burn wouldâve been good motivation to join the Horde, weâve already seen them work alongside goblins and ogres too
And even in Classic they used a thin human model. I know nothingâs stopping them from worshipping the light, but we havenât exactly seen any Defias paladins running around (that I know of at least)
