this is hyperspace. my new nightborne hunter. so far, no insults. haha
No, this is incorrect. What closes the thread is the number of flags, not necessarily someone getting the ban hammer.
They are a type of High ElfâŚ
Blood Elves, Void Elves, Sanâlayn/Dark Rangers and of course High Elves are all types of High Elf. The is no exclusive âTheâ High Elves.
And how do Blood Elves fit the fantasy of elves who never left the Alliance and didnât take dark steps to survive? lol
So I was recently reading about an entry Metzen made about the Alliance High elves during and after the third war during an interview with Computer Gaming World in december 2005.
The high elves officially withdrew from the Alliance after the Second War under the belief that not enough troops were sent to protect QuelâThalas, and thus led to a needlessly engorged amount of slaughter and destruction. A few high elves remained under their own volition to continue serving the Alliance, but the loyalty of even these voluntary troops waned after the second sacking of QuelâThalas by Arthas â who had recently destroyed his own kingdom â to which the remnants of the Alliance of Lordaeron took no steps in intervening. Finally, with Lord Garithosâs dismissive treatment of blood elven troops and attempt to execute many blood elves for accepting boats from naga, even more fell under the sway of Kaelâthasâ new vision for his people.
Biologically they are the same race.
Different race.
Undead. They are not considered the same race.
Blood elves and HIgh elves.
they donât need to fit YOUR fantasy, they just need to fit A fantasy. Discworld like in this case.
I shouldnât pop into these too much, buuuutâŚ
Biologically there is no definition for what consists of âraceâ. Or species. Its all basically someoneâs judgement on how different things can be perceived as
If weâre going to do this very, very, stupid game.
Race is a social construct.
Terms such as species and the like are not a matter of perception but are a matter of scientific evaluation.
If you wish to be super duper technical, then the species for the high/blood elves would be thalassian elf.
Not an issue.
Race in this game isnât just about genetics.
No theyâre notâŚ
They are literally Blood Elves infused with Void.
Undead High Elves lol
No, they donât fit the HIGH ELF fantasy.
Just because Blood Elves used to be called High Elves doesnât meant they have the High Elf fantasy.
HIGH ELF fantasy refers to the ones called HIGH ELVES that never left the Alliance and never took the Blood Elves dark path and never got tainted by Fel.
Blood Elves can NEVER offer that.
If all you care about is being a pretty elf then donât gripe who want something deeper just because itâs similar to yourse.
In that case, the species is Elf and they are all mutations cause by magic or a lack of magic.
This does not apply to WoW anyway. You play a âRaceâ and not a species and races in WoW can mean from a different place or infused with a different type of magic.
Quit trying to bring real world genetic in a fantasy setting where there might not even be genetics.
People from different geographic regions have distinguishing features, often down to bone structure.
High Elves have none of this. They are literally Blood Elves that donât call themselves that. Itâd be like adding Syndicate humans to the Horde. Except theyâre all ginger.
Interestingly at the 2013 Blizzcon, as Chris Metzen was introducing WoD, he said High Elves were Alliance.
Time stamp is about 5:30

Clearly it does appear to be
Did you not do any of the quests involving void elves?
I failed to notice the part where blood elves and high elves also had glowing tentacles for hair. Or had a deep connection to the void instead of the sunwell.
They are still considered a different race dude per lore, and per the fact that they are undead.
Which is?
How so when they have literally the same history until the political split? Same culture etc etc etc.
So somehow, that isnât high elf culture anymore because YOU consider it that way, even though per blizzard and lore, they are the high elf fantasty.
What you want is alliance based blood elves, thats it.
There is no different culture or anytihng else, they instead just say âgo team blueâ instead of âgo team red.â.
They donât fit the standard of mutation when it comes to void elves.
Wretched would.
Read Wrenchesterâs post before you jump in and display ignorance.
Correct, but race is still a societal term.
Certainly some ethnic groups have certain genetic markers which are shared, but these anomalous differences would not constitute a race per the scientific community.
Pretty much
Um races are defined biologically and genetically actually? Forensic anthropologists can identify a personâs race from a skeleton. While some races are purely social constructs most races are made up of characteristics inherited genetically.
No where did I say they werenât Alliance? Merely that their faith in the Alliance waned after the sacking of Quelâthalas and the treatment of the Blood Elves under Garithos.
From Merriam Webster:
c : a category of humankind that shares certain distinctive physical traits
From every academic journal
Race is a societal construct as the genetic differences do not constitute such differences as to warrant another sub-division of the human species.
Why are you trying to bring a dictionary to argue with the scientific community as a whole?
People who have spent their lives doing this do not consider race anything but societal, read the academic papers if needed.
But the term âraceâ isnât. We define it on ancestry, but how far do you need to go from a baseline before that then splits into a new one?
Indeed, but WoW handles the term âraceâ differently to substitute âspeciesâ.
Why do they feel the need to push an angenda and try to say that people arenât different? Race refers to a distinct, group of people that share genetic and physical traits.
Why do they not acknowledge this? Saying the differences are social constructs does not undo untold years of geographic isolation.
I donât get it.
More than a generation between them would have to have elapsed before they could be considered a different race. Even the Warcraft encyclopedia refers to them as the same race.
Did i say you said they werent Alliance?
I merely pointed out what he said was interesting imo.
Mind you, it seems i replied to you accidentally, so sorry for that, my mistake.
