I’m noticing that as of the new patch, the WoW client is spiking one of my CPU cores on my 2018 MacBook Pro, causing the fans to spin-up. Note that I am using a BlackMagic eGPU Pro connected to a 4K Dell display (the diagnostic info is misreporting it as 5K due probably to the system scaling settings).
This behavior is new as of 8.2.5, and prior to that the CPU usage and overall system temps stayed low while using the eGPU.
I would be happy to provide any other info that might be helpful.
Here is the support info:

I am also experiencing this same issue on my 2017 MacBook Pro. No eGPU however. No changes to any system settings seem to address the issue.
Same here on a 2018 Macbook Pro. Fan noise is very noticeable after the patch.
Same here on my iMac 5K (2017). Fans kicking in a lot as well.
I am experiencing the same issue which seems to be most noticeable when switching zones for some reason (ex: happened right after I took the garrison mage tower portal to Tanaan). The fan will suddenly kick in and my CPU temperature seems to spike dramatically.
My system is a bit older so it doesn’t have a Retina or 5K display
iMac (27-inch, Late 2013)
3.5 GHz Intel Core i7
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4 GB
I’m having the same problem. After the patch, my temperatures spiked by 20-25F in town and 40-45F in instances even with fans running at max. CPU usage was through the roof.
I’ve tried resetting the user interface and have checked multiple times with fresh cache/WTF/interface folders and no addons, but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to have made a difference.
MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)
2.9 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 2133 MHz LPDD
Intel HD Graphics 630 and Radeon Pro 560
Edit: I tried a scan and repair on WoW and that also didn’t help.
Same issue
Mac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017)
4.2 GHz Intel Core i7
64 GB 2400 MHz DDR4
Radeon Pro 580 8 GB
I don’t seem to be experiencing the fan issue (2019 iMac/10.14.6/3.8 core i9/40Gb/Pro Vega 48) but have seen a noticeable drop in FPS while in certain areas.
Just curious, if you do
/console gxMTDisable 1
In game does it feel better?
You can revert this setting back to default by doing
/console gxMTDisable 0
I tried the /console gxMTDisable 1
suggestion but didn’t see any change to CPU usage or temps.
Tried this as well on a 2019 i9 MBP… didn’t help.
I did some more resting myself and can confirm disabling Multithreading does little for issue, in fact I notice cpu usage is way too high when wow is in background and capped at 5fps, before, this would be using sub 40% cpu, now it’s using 150+ in this state. This is WAY too high with multi threading off AND capped at 5fps. it seems like something is tapping at least one cpu core and keeping it busy at all times. This is definitely bugged
Imac 5k
i7 4.2Ghz
Radeon Pro 580
With latest patch, my fan kicks on like crazy, it NEVER did that before
Also quick question, is okay to play like this or recommended to wait until fixed? Not sure about the effect on my machine, I tried lowering all setting to low and still the fan goes crazy, thanks.
Getting fans on my i9 iMac, previously only Classic did that but we know that Classic client is broke
Cause of this bug has been identified as well, and it was something introduced by updating one of 3rd party libraries client uses, unrelated to work that was done on client itself. The bug is pegging one cpu core at 100% at all times. It’ll be fixed in an upcoming binary hotfix (along with the separate hang issue)

Can we get word when this fix goes live? Fans are aching here.
Since it’s not ideal for our machines to play with this bug wonder if blizzard can compensate some of our monthly subscription we pay for since we can’t play???
well it would be interesting to know if the same condition exist in classic because it can peg a core on my machine randomly causing the fans to spin up. it only recently happened in retail
