So I got this down yesterday at 600 ilv due to my sheer intellect and skill and now I’m willing to share my brilliance so that you guys may share in the splendor of a blueberry blimp.
So here’s how to get it down easy peasy.
First, have brann as healer, think this is obvious but I guess not everyone in GD had breakfast everyday when growing up.
Second, and here’s the most important one…
Save all your 30 sec+ offensive CDs for the cacoons and the cacoons only.
This fight DOES NOT have an enraged timer so it’s okay to take your time on Zekvie and just dodge mechanics.
The only thing is try to be very mindful of his heal cast on DBM when going after the cacoons as that has higher priority.
If you’re not able to down the cacoons because of rng, then make sure you save all cc for them, DO NOT kick the add, only Kick the boss heal cast.
So with a little bit of patience and some Tahonto mojo, you too can be awesome.
Ret is also one of the easiest specs in the game to do the fight with, second only to Shadow Priest. Given it has freedom for spittle, and the highest repeatable 30 seconds burst DPS in the game between ES and Wake Wings. As well as bubble to cover a bad overlap / mistake.
Yeah - on my BDK I was able to get it down to below 80% after I figured out the pattern - then missed a kick and OH BOY he heals for a bunch. This fight is very much mechanics based and but also a DPS check with the webs.
After reset and a little bit more gear (currently sitting at 607 on my BDK), I’m going to attempt it again. I suspect if I give it a few more tries I’ll get it now, but rather over kill it.
not sure who needs to hear this, but the spittle dot he casts is a snare that can be removed by a lot of talents/abilities. It completely nullifies the deadliest ability in the fight.
Another tip to other Paladins: use the “Unbound Freedom” talent, this way you can use BoF on Brann and you’ll also get BoF, removing the DoT from both of you. It really makes a difference and reduces the amount of time Brann spends being dead.
I have a 625 ret paladin I keep failing on over and over. I have the macros set to target egg, weak auras to warn my of the heals, but as usual it’s the visuals that get me every time. Zek blocks view to the healing potions so I am lucky to get them. There is an option in the game to limit spell effects to essential but the game thinks everything is essential, There is no difference between full and essential that I can tell. I went three minutes into the fight on my best attempt, never missing an egg or a heal but still at 80%. After three minutes my nerves are shot and my hand starts shaking and I lose it. (I am 72 so I don’t have the steadiest of hands anyway". What is really frustrating is Brann absolutely refuses to put down a campfire. If I enter with 20% health he simply heals me to full but no campfire.
I never used Brann as a healer, I found that his healing is not very helpful.
As a ret paladin, you won’t get one-shot by melee attacks, you just have to heal yourself with word of glory now and then.
Also, make sure to talent into unbound freedom, then make a macro to target Brann with freedom (so both you and Brann get freedom) - it entirely immunes the dot.
Brann should absolutely be on healer if youre doing Zekvir “??”
Respeccing to holy will OOM you, the he puts down a campfire and you can go back to ret.
If after 3 minutes you’ve only done 20% you really need to be putting more damage into boss and working out what you need to deal with the eggs and what you don’t. You can technically fight him forever so there isn’t a rush, but as you say human error ramps up over time especially if you have other factor influencing your stamina.
It’s def a mage tower fight. It’s a rotation/cycle of abilities, only two of which matter. The interupt/cleanse and the cocoon. Everything else is choose your own adventure and don’t die.
I’m not sure anybody can really offer you advice on this front. Even other 72 year olds might not have the same situation. I’m not as old as you, but I’m in the back 9… and a glass of wine helps. Just not more than that
