Herod pop problem solved

increase the cap for launch. Seriously its that easy.

Before you all start moaning about the server getting to big. All preexisting servers are going to fill up launch day and cause a queue, there is a literal zerg rush forming on the horizon. Furthermore, all the servers already carry over 3 times the amount of players vanilla had. So that “no changes” is already out the window. Don’t punish the players just because Blizzard messed up and only gave each timezone 3 or less servers to choose from at the start. Like, what did you think would happen when you name one server after a memorable mob and give everyone a 33.3% chance to randomly pick it. I honestly wonder who thought that was a good Idea.

You screwed up and you CAN fix it. Fix it. Enough people will quit before phase 2. It happens every expansion, its happened on every private server. Player retention, especially these days, is maybe a little over half of launch. (crap I’ll end up quitting for animal crossing and I’m gonna no life classic). So when sharding finally goes there will be enough casuals gone.

LET MY PEOPLE PLAY. KEEP THE QUEUE AWAY.

The caps area already estimated to be at around 40-50k which is over 10x what they were in vanilla.

No, they cannot just increase the server caps. They already did that.

lol…good idea.

If only. Do you suggest more layers then? There’s probably a good chunk of Herod people that would want the opposite to happen.

Instead of just switching servers everyone refusing to leave like…

If only it was that easy. The reason for server caps isnt some arbitrary player cap so economies work. Its a physical limit to server structure. The math and computing behind games like wow is staggering and isnt as easy as “increased limit, done”. Their server hardware and software can only handle a certain amount of load at a time. And its not cheap to upgrade / reserve more for Classic. They were given a set budget from Activision and they must appeal to their shareholders/heads to acquire more. That is why we see more servers popping up. I dont think people realize this is a passion project and they do not intend this to be their next big mmorpg.

Increase the server cap?! Do you even have a clue how servers work? The technical aspect of it? It’s a little more complicated then just adding a couple zeros.

Though that’s generally true, it’s not the case here. Blizzard said in a post last week that they could raise the cap further but they have no intention of doing so, since that would just push the issue down the road and potentially cause issues when they remove layering prior to phase two

You act as though blizzard set the cap lower than it should be because they love ques. Lol jesus christ you honestly think they wouldn’t set it to a max number so they have a smooth launch? People use your brains for just one second before thinking about ideas such as this.

they did say they can increase server cap

however, that’s their reasoning for not wanting to do so, i think the game is good and the retainment rate will be high

sounds like a bunch of lame excuses

Wow man, you’re so smart! I bet they never thought of that!

Actually. That’s not true. At all.

It’s all about phase 2 when layering is removed. If they allow too many people in now, you’ll end up with much higher queues once layering is gone

Blizz confirmed this themselves

Which has little to none to do with server wide caps.

The reddit comment is saying there’s a limit to the number of people crammed into the same tiny area.

They could still greatly increase the server wide population cap still, and greatly increase the amount of layers. Cloud servers are a thing

But, that would be counter intuitive, because Phase 2 won’t have layers. Blizz has stated this…

Right. Don’t increase the server caps, add servers. That will solve the problem of the phase 2 issue and, incidentally, short of Classic imploding, it’s the only solution.

Right, and then when they remove the sharding in phase 2 you’ll have a post on here saying “WHY ARE THERE 12,408 PLAYERS IN ORGRIMMAR I CANT EVEN LOG IN.”

As they stated many times in the past layering isn’t for physical number of players on a server at once. Its to stop 1000’s of players in a small area. The max occupancy of a server is different. Servers are difficult to increase max occupancy and that is why we see them opening more servers. Which in turn can hurt them as when the vacationers and short term players drop off some servers “could” die.
