No matter what you think of Asmongold, he just posted a long tweet that sums up what we are going to see, again, if Blizzard does not change their minds on covenant abilities. They say they hear us. We shall see.

Asmon is right.
That being said, the forums hate him, so don’t expect many nice responses.

I mean, I get it but at the same time, you have to give credit when credit is due. His post sums up the issue as well as anybody can. It is actually well drawn out and explains the situation perfectly. It is reality.

Its a shame people are already trying to railroad their ideas without any actual solution.
I feel really bad for this development team.
People ask for something, they get it, and they immediate want it changed without even testing it.
There is no way the covenant system works as a “talent” system.
Its just not that.
So if you don’t want this, then it needs to be basically completely redesigned, and that just isn’t going to happen.
Its such a shame, but I guess this same nonsense from BFA is going to carry on in Shadowlands where people just demand their way until it happens again.
I hate that, because I know I will never be able to enjoy the start of an expansion knowing that we are going to have to have 180 changes months down the road because influencers can’t just play the game happily.

Exactly. Asmongold is 100% right, and I’m extremely happy to see that he’s using his platform to hopefully get the devs to hear our feedback.

Yes I did. I saw it before you posted it.

What did you disagree with?

Or devs could just make a game without all those garbage systems that exist solely to increase player “engagement” (read with jim sterling voice) and boost metrics to please shareholders.

Huh? Read my first reply.
I disagree with all of it, basically.
But it doesn’t matter. He has more followers than me, so I am wrong.
Its just a shame, because I know that this system will not end up staying the way it is for long, so how can I enjoy it as it is if the community is going to force it to change?

Why do you disagree? If it doesn’t stay it is because Blizzard knows it is a terrible system and have to change it to make it work to the point they dont lose their subs.

I’ll save you all the time reading it.
If you’ve read any of the posts of people against covenant abilities… It’s basically just that except really long.

Metro, come on. Back in April of 2018 everybody knew Azerite Armor was going to fail from the fact that it was literally the Netherlight Crucible upside-down.
Covenants, from what we can tell, aren’t going to work in their current iteration. They’re going to force certain players to join a Covenant they don’t like because it that’s the only way that allows them to perform optimally.
People will say “they don’t have to!” But you know what? They don’t have to play the game either. But they do, because they like the game. And if they like the game, they don’t want to feel punished for pursuing what is meant to be a positive choice for themselves in a video game.

No thanks. I like being engaged. The game is fun for me, so the more reasons to play the better.

So you had fun in legion at the beginning? Must have been one of the lucky few to get their BiS legendaries early on. I went months before I got one while I saw the guy in our raid group get 4-5, two of which were his BiS. If those types of systems are fun to you…yeah we will never see eye to eye.

You can’t tell anything.
You don’t even know every ability, its CD, its duration, or its numerical value.
You assume that you will need to min-max these, but you are not in Method or Limit, so you will just be wasting your own time doing so, for a likely extremely minor benefit that discounts the purpose of the system and frankly the whole expansion.
People who don’t even do serious content are worried about something that will have no mathematical impact on them based on a quarter of the information that will be available.
And they are sure of it.
So that’s it, the system is doomed just like half the stuff added in BFA.
Really makes it hard to even want to care about it, knowing if I ever even try to get interested people are going to keep telling me I’m a shill.

Why would anybody want to do anything if they feel like no matter what they choose, it feels bad? That is what wow is now. Choices that no matter what you make feel terrible and it is looking like Shadowlands is going to head down the same route unless they know more we dont know about.

Not at all. The start of Legion was the first time I ever wanted to quit.
But nothing changed.
They just added more BLP sources and I eventually got what I wanted.
The nether disrupter, basically carried.
Now that people saw the power they can have, this is going to be another essence situation.
Just keep talking about it until the game developers have to change it, because no one will ever move on.
And then they will change it, and there will be a new problem wrong with it.
Its depressing honestly.

But we are talking about it now so that we dont have to go through all that once it is live.

People LOVE to dump on Asmon (with good reason), but he’s right. He’s seen it all before, and so have I. Does anyone REALLY seriously believe that the same thing that’s happened in the last 2 or more expansions won’t actually happen again? REALLY?
