Also, they fixed the frost nova bug. Ice Lance was counting as a melee attack instead of a ranged attack so it wasn’t breaking the nova as easily as it was supposed to. There is no “spam five 2200 lance crits into a single nova” anymore. Thankfully.
yeah, frost is garbage at 70 honestly, which is actually interesting considering it’s the same spec but with new ability that were supposed to make it better, but unfortunately the pet+pet nova+icyveins still it is a weak spec. i’ve killed 2 frost mages simultaneously with arcane/fire spec all the time. I actually have never lost to a frost mage in TBC as arcane fire, then again i am a gnome and instinctively use my escape artist ability whenever i find myself in their nova. plus you can always blink towards them which puts you behind them at the end of their casttime before they can course correct. oh gee wow 2k icelance as opposed to 3k fireblast not including ignite with zero cooldowns needed, plus you can totally spellsteal their icebarrier and icy veins. it usually will grab the most recently casted buff, not always but usually, about 60% of the time it seems.
Wouldn’t go that far. Frost mage is incredible for arena. It’s not really about damage. Being able to 80% snare someone with a rank 1 frostbolt, or multiple people with a rank 1 blizzard is great. Ice barrier is dispellable by some teams, sure, but it’s still a ton of mitigation. Cold Snap allowing two blocks is amazing in the 3s meta too. Arcane/Fire certainly does more damage, but you could argue Frost isn’t about damage anyway.
Fighting Frost Mage / Disc priest in 2s is so frustrating when they just R1 Frostbolt and R1 Blizzard and poly the entire match fishing for mana burns etc.
you shouldn’t have any problems out of frost mages as a druid, you can just shapeshift out of nova to remove it unless you are also silenced/stunned. you wouldn’t believe the amount of mages i see that don’t bother trying to polymorph a druid, it’s NOT pointless, it takes a druid a good chunk of the mana to shapeshift to break polymorph and poly is only like 150 mana for a mage, a very negligible amount which essentially turns it into a mana drain on druids, plus you can use it to interupt casting if timed right it could potentially interupt their cyclone/regrowth/healing touch. i’ve actually seen druids i’ve polymorphed that just sit there instead of bothering to shift out because how much mana it costs to shapeshift and eat my pyroblast instead. bad move.
I play Restokin/Rogue and Restokin/Ret on pservers and Frost Mage / Disc is the bane of our existence. I have no magic dispel to get psychic scream or polymorph off my partner, and I can’t remove the 80% snare from R1 bolt or R1 blizzard either. It just becomes an extremely long mana game where each team just tries to stop drinks and sort of wait for the other team to AFK out after 15min. Hate it.
Also, you can break polymorph with travel form. 156 mana. Polymorph on ME is not why Frost/Disc sucks to play against.
yeah but if you’re loading up a big damage spell like fireball/pyroblast most druids will instinctively select bearform(from my experience) if they do shift out to try ot get off a feral charge for interupt, travel form is the correct answer or catform sprint away depending on the situation(you can’t use travelform indoors so like in WSG flag room you wouldn’t be able to travel form for example)
Prepatch is pretty boring, imo. Would rather be playing Beta, but it’s pretty dead with everybody leveling Draenei, Belves, and gearing their new boosted toons.
Classic Era > Forever Prepatch — though sure, Paladins have some better tanking tools, and there are more races and starting zones in pre-patch, the class talent design is not geared towards level 60s.
Maybe because you’ve never (yet) run into a frost mage with a rogue, or priest
But then again, what does “frost mage” even mean? Most points in Frost? Some points in Frost?
