blizzard spoke about the “spirit of vanilla” so it’s more than just doesn’t break the tos.

And they modified the Classic API to make sure addons keep the “spirit of vanilla”. Guess what? The ClassicLFG without auto-invite still works.

-LFG with automated invites -> Talent lookup function - > Gearscoring function -> Raider IO

All the LFG addon does is enable finding groups outside of major cities, which is still technically something you could do its just more accessible this way. The addon only auto-invites if you choose to let it, but if you’re going to enable that, you were going to manually do it anyway then, no? Whats the problem? This wont affect anybody whether the addon exists or not, if anyone wanted a more accessible way to group they will just use the realm discord servers floating around. Same impact.

Armory existed back in Vanilla, I believe? Either that or it was early TBC. Not the advanced version we know today but I remember a popular addon back in pvp was something that allowed this exact thing. It would automatically open a targetted player’s armory in your browser, I believe, so you could quickly assess their strength. If armory didn’t exist for Vanilla, it shouldn’t exist for it now, and then there would be no problem. Otherwise, an addon with this functionality is fine.

Gearscoring, in vanilla? No. You gotta be joking. It would be like making an addon that says ‘Hello everyone, I am here’ and greets everyone warmly when you land from a flight point. Who cares about addons with zero real functionality? I shouldn’t have to explain this but nearly nothing is optimized in Vanilla, and your best in slot gear is probably more likely to not be whatever has the highest ilvl… many classes have green quality items that are best in slot pre-raid. Its bad. Nobody would use a gearscore addon because it would ALWAYS mislead them. It doesn’t accomplish anything here.

And yeah, addons were for convenience. What did you think they were for?

I wonder how many people have ever used addons or even understand what they are capable of doing before crusading against them.

Because, when Blizz said they were releasing Classic they honestly thought it was going to be for a small group of ppl. They never imagined that so many would want to actually play classic. So when they made ToS they left some areas very vague never anticipating a problem, especially from players who swore up and down they would never play classic. Now it has just become a game for some to troll forums and say this that or the other. This addon along with Gold sharing, trading etc.… are two areas that are very controversial with no clear answer. Blizz can fix easily, Ban the addon and all other chat addons problem solved. Then if you cant play without it then play retail if you can then enjoy classic.

Wrong. Like I said, they trimmed the vanilla API to be more restrictive. So even if it does work, that means they obviously don’t mind auto-invite addons too much in Classic.

So, first part: “we don’t like it to automate the gameplay for you” - This add-on does not do that.
Second part: “If it’s helping you see the layout in a way that makes you feel like it’s more comfortable for you to view and respond to, that’s exactly why add-ons are in the game” - That’s exactly what this add-on does. It parses chat messages and displays them in a clean GUI.

ya I found this out when I tried to install Bartender4 and did not grab the --classic version, was a mess.

So I am watching Esfand talk about this addon right now and watched the whole video of the guy showing exactly what this addon does.

It’s worse than what many here are trying to act like. There is an automate option to automatically invite people to the party. Anything automated should not be there in my opinion. There’s another part of this addon that really bothers me. I can see it becoming this horrible retail mindset where people will only take people in the meta specs because this addon shows your spec when you use the addon.

Here’s the thing. Instead of people talking and forming groups, we are now going to have many people downloading this addon that will be automatically forming groups for people and I can just see people getting turned down because of “oh, I see here you have points into the demo tree” for example. Not a good example really, but my point is, this is retail crap that will ruin Classic.

Blizzard needs to break this, bottom line. If it was just a chat parser, that would be different. But this addon goes way beyond that.

The RETAIL versin has automatic group forming, The Classic version does not.
That video is not Classic.

Wouldn’t we have seen the servers during the beta and stress tests? Granted that wasn’t everyone, but at least there you could a large number of people were involved.
