Herb and mining bots

I flew around Uldam for about 20 minutes… Only saw 2 ore… and both of them were either “already being used by another player” (even though there was no players around) or “target is tapped” … I see about 30+ level 85s in the area and not a single person responds in general chat… this is so incredibly broken.

Have u tried tol borad? On my server no one mines their i come out om avg 2 stacks of pyrite and 10 stacks of elementium. Its on a 8 min respawn timer so i do dailies in between and then do a round of mining and rinse and repeat.

Sure its lame but that just is how it is these days. They do ban waves like 1-2 times a year so “they cant figure out our secret detection tech” so more or less the bots just get to run wild in the mean time. The only way to really get something banned now is just generate enough reports from players in a given window and then suddenly “not the AI, but the observed and human overseen AI” acts.

Already being used by another player is not because of bots, this is because of layering and quest phasing, many ore shares layers and phases which is what causes this, I tested this back in TBC with a friend on multiple different ore and while he was on a different layer tapping the same ore in same location.
Also not everyone has general chat in their main chat tab and not everyone cares enough to respond to random stuff in general.
No doubt there are bots but it’s not as bad as you think.
Most gold income on sites are by auction house bots and level boosting in places like Deepholm and dungeon boosts like Grim Batol / Stonecore.

I will second what Ezzary said. I mine and herb on my 85 druid and am never on general chat when I do (have guild channel on and normally watching a video on other screen) so I wouldn’t usually see anything random. I noticed a few odd acting farmers occasionally but it actually hasn’t been bad for me at least.

This is all anecdotal but I have been surprised at how easy everything has been to farm honestly since most things are only in one or two zones.

I have several characters with gathering professions, I see nodes everywhere, and I’m on a high-pop server with multiple layers on zones.

During WotLK there were bots everywhere, probably there are still bots, but every time I tried to go after resources I found them fairly easily.

Just AH’d a bunch of stuff cheaply during my 1 day free game time, so I could give gold to some guildies who still play. The amount of instant-buyer AH bots was disheartening. Very helpful though in my case

im one whitemane and i sware are bots die or something herbs and ore have gone up so much right now are bots went to retail or something

How are you managing to do that? I can’t go in there without full pvp gear and come out 2 hours later with nothing done except for fighting alliance the entire time

Im on mankrik a pve server so quite easy. I have 44 stacks of pyrite ore and working on my 8th bag of elementium ore.

yeah they are terrain hacking, they’re under the map

I’m not saying it’s not botters exploiting, but this is a pretty common side effect of phasing.

if you on a large server then ya its what nightelf priest said its terrain hacking if ur a small server then its phaseing

it’s not phasing. it’s because nodes are assigned to another map or submap than where it’s actually located. The buggy uldum-assigned mining nodes are along the north edge, west side of map - nodes are located in AQ zone so can’t be mined by normal means. You’ll see the location change to something like ‘ruins of AQ’ as you try to tap the node. I use map notes to put a big red X on these unminable nodes.

same thing with a mining node east of wintergrasp fortress, and an everfrost chip that was in zuldrak but assigned to stormpeaks. These same buggy nodes existed in retail when these expacs were current… never did run into that everfrost chip in classic but remember from retail days.

phasing issues “dynamic environment” are more like treasure chests that are visible as you fly to them, but disappear as you fly into the quest phased zone. my dwarf would spot a chest in the Fleshwerks but I would have to run an alt there that hadn’t cleared the quests there to loot it. Chests belong to only one phase and sort of random to which one.
Also phasing issues (lots in uldum and twilight, couple in hyjal) will be when you are with a friend and one of you has advanced the dynamic environment while the other hasn’t… you’ll disappear from each other until you leave that area. Obelisk of the Moon is a good example with it’s 3 phases: one phase where Myzerian is human form w/50k hp regen, second where he’s a dragon at full hp, and a third where he’s below 50% and killable (post the quest detonating the area). Had a friend come heal my melee while I tried to kill Myzerian but we disappeared from each other because she hadn’t advanced to the last phase in Obelisk of the Moon. Also causes her to fall off my sandstone drake when I enter one of these phased zones. Cradle of the Ancients, Obelisk of the Stars, and Schnottz are also quest phased.

It actually is though, or it at least it can be. Again, I’m not saying none of it is exploiters but a great deal of it is a by product of phasing. It’s self evident. The “already being used” problem is waaaaaay more prevalent in areas with heavy phasing.

I’m on a dead server so when I’m mining uldum, I’m usually the only one there. So have not encounted what I think is happening to you (aside from the unminable nodes misplaced within the border of AQ for example.

You’re either encountering those misplaced nodes along the edge of the map as I stated or else someone is mining and beat you to the node in one of these dynamic environments which change as you complete quests in the zone. There’s 2 mining node groups on each side of the temple entrance at Obelisk of the Moon. I went there with a character that has cleared the zone (Myzerian is at 33% and everything on fire), noted the location of the elementium at each group, swapped to my miner (which hasn’t done many uldum quests, myzerian is human form and nothing is on fire) and the elementium were at the same spots. Then I mined both, logged back to my character that has cleared uldum zone, and the nodes where gone.

I think those 2 cases are what you are running into. Someone was invisible due to the dynamic environment and beat you to the node. I don’t think we are in disagreement just nomenclature and I don’t think anyone is doing any exploits.

I don’t really see the point of exploiting just to mine open world.
