I’ve explained myself like 3 times on here. MAJOR HEAR ATTACK about 7 years ago, lost about 25% of my heart. It stopped beating for over 45 minutes till the doctor got it going again. Lack of sufficient oxygen does bad things to the body and brain. Doctor told me not to work or stress my heart. I wonder why? Ha. I also have PTSD from that event. Already had PTS from serving in Vietnam. And I’ve always had anxiety, confirmed by a doctor too. Didn’t need a doctor to tell me that.
Anyway, my question: I started playing WOW about 5 to 6 years ago. Tried a couple of raids and dungeons. I could tell it was bothering my heart as well as raising my anxiety. So I stopped doing them. Made me a little scared to play them. I want to try again. Which raids and/or dungeons would you all suggest I try that would be on the “easy” side. Maybe I can do a few.
Another thing, I’ve been reading a lot of the comments about raiding in SL. I see lots of complaints about raiding now. About, to put it simply, pug raids can get nasty concerning being kicked for no reason and other things. That’s a concern of mine.
Any help on the matter of raiding and dungeons would be appreciated. Help out an old coot, will ya?
There’s only one current raid at any given point of time… & LFR is always a good place to experience the content.
I always enjoy reading up on fights before they come out. I have notes & drawings when I sit down for the first time. Not because I have to, but I just enjoy doing it. Maybe try it? A little prep goes a long way to reduce stress and in-fight surprises. Dungeons may take longer, but we’re gonna be running the same dungeons for the next 2 years. Affixes may change but basic boss mechanics & layout will always be the same.
Adrenaline spikes are kind of unavoidable in this game if you are doing current content. If your heart is that unstable and at risk it might be worth finding a different game. If you enjoy the fantasy mmo genre, you may wish to look at playing runescape 3 or old school runescape. 90% of the game is more or less relaxing/afk grinding content to level up skills like woodcutting, minning, slayer etc. The combat ,other than for high level bosses, is really non-stressful and your character can completely out level/gear current content areas to make it trivial.
Nope. Ain’t going anywhere. Love WOW too much. I’ll have to try and find a group to work with. Back when playing some raids, it’s the idea of letting the other players down that bother me the most. Can’t help it. Probably the training and service of the US Army, and that it can get so chaotic in a raid. Dungeons weren’t too bad, but still…
I’ll look for a group to see if they’re willing to take on a disabled vet.
Thanks for the help.
PS, I know my heart well enough now. If I feel that raiding is too much I’ll back off…again.
Don’t pug. It’s clear from what you tried it causes your anxiety to rise and maybe even stress a little. Take maybe something to relax you if possible and reach out to a community, group, guild, explaining your situation and so they wouldn’t care of mistakes etc.
I’ve always raided, but I think this current raid might be my last. Maybe I’m just getting too old, or somehow losing coordination, but these raids are just way to complicated now. Raids are not what they used to be, that’s for sure.
I think the stress of raids/dungeons comes from not achieving your goal or disappointing others. I think the solution would be to accept that there will be mistakes by the party and you will fail. And that’s ok. Also, understand that others might not take failure well and they will be upset by it but their feelings are not your responsibility. And you shouldn’t take their burden on.
But really just be safe whatever you decide to do.
You can do the current raid on LFR with no stress whatsoever. Like none. It is a walkthrough only and if you wipe you just gets stacks of determination that eventually mean you should always clear the boss.
Basically no one cares in LFR. It is a place to get alt gear or see the story or get an idea of how the raid sort of works on Normal difficulty.
I’m unsure if you’re willing to change faction or server, but in case you are my alliance guild would be more than happy to take you on. We’re a casual social/raid guild and have very low pressure normal and heroic raid nights every week, along with other events such as M+ nights and mount farms.
Here’s a link to our recruitment post in the new player forum, but along with being new player friendly, we have many old school wow players as well who have moved past our progression raiding aspirations and just enjoy having a laid back time with the group. Contact info is in the post.
Again, this is an ally guild, so if you don’t feel like swapping factions I completely understand. Doesn’t hurt to reach out though
And thank you to everyone for reaching out to me. I’ll try the LFR and also look for a group that will take me on. I want to gear up better. World quests are great, until SL. Made quite well with just doing them. Not that way anymore.
