Help Save <Delightful Deviates> - Or at Least Our Investment!

Hello.

I am the GM of a tiny guild, Delightful Deviates, on a tiny server slated to be guillotined in August, Deviate Delight.

We’ve intentionally stayed on the near dead server because of how it forces/encourages homestead/frontiers-like cooperation on BOEs, 5-mans/questing, and crafting among those of us who are here. It took weeks to get enough people to sign the charter two months ago!

We know there’s probably nothing we can say to sway devs into accepting that maybe a near dead server is actually a playstyle we want, especially when it caters to such a small amount of sub fees.

But one thing we’re hoping we might be able to convince someone to assist us with: compensation for investment into the guild. Less than a week before the announcement our server would die, we invested 100g into a bank tab. This is an INCREDIBLE amount of gold on a server with no active AH and an entirely time/item barter economy between friends who are still enjoying working their way through sub level 60 content on sub 70s. And there’s no way to transfer guilds at this time to another server in BC Classic…

I opened a ticket asking if there was anything a GM could do to help in this matter, and they directed me to the forums.

Blizzard representatives, is there anything you can do for the members of Delightful Deviates as pertains the 100g investment we have made only days before hearing it was wasted?

edit: and moreover, could we please have more options for free transfers off Deviate Delight if we’re being forced off?

Are you not all max level yet? I only ask because once you hit outlands 100g even just very casually is not a very large amount, and you can passively gain a few thousand gold just doing all the quests in outlands. (Assuming you are selling old gear and such, a bit less if your disenchanting them)

make like 300g Min a day from dailys? Thats before i AH the cloths and mats from Deing… which makes the avg 400g+ each day now for 18 days in a row

I too would like to chime in here; as a member of this charming guild, active player on Deviate Delight, and well, as a newly returned costumer. I do not know much about the history that has taken place in the years since i stopped playing (both in-game lore or corporate cultural changes) but i do know a little something about managing multimillion (billion?) dollar corporate families. Hard decisions need to be made, committees need to agree, and various department heads and their teams have to implement those decisions. Closing servers was most likely not an easy decision.

I understand the process, what I do not understand is how/why the decision to rid the game of the only other RPPVP server. Grobbulus on the West coast is already full. Assuming, those that still want to participate in Role Playing & player versus player will migrate their characters to the one remaining server after the culling, how will an already full server handle the influx of characters?

People may not have been playing as of late, but a fair few will not want to lose all the progress they may have made over the years. I understand if no selection is made one will be made for those characters. But what about the admittedly few of us, who would want a RPPVP server for Wrath. Not a fresh server and new server. Is that in the cards?

What about the hype for Wrath that will bring back dormant players …players such as myself, who may have been gone for a while and are not really following the news as closely as active players?

Like I mentioned above, I understand how these processes follow a work flow. I think, however, someone inside that work flow should communicate a little more as to the metrics and vision for the future . If not for any other reason, to prevent paying customers making up their own conspiracies and assigning malice where no malice was intended.

I have fell in love with this game all over again, on a server with no Auction House, no LFG, little dungeoning, and no endgame raids. The Lore and discovery of an unfolding storyline, are all amazing. However, it was the people i met (the few admittedly) that like me, wanted to PLAY the game and get into character and QUEST that has kept me logging on and paying, the last few months.
i dont think that it would have been possible if i had to play on a full server like Grobbulus. (and it is full before all the other characters will be migrated from Deviate Delight)

If the simple fix is to compensate us for the gold investment our guild has made, and move on, so be it. But we would really love a little more information about if there will be another RPPVP server with Deviate Delight’s death, and Grobbulus’s undoubtedly large population influx.

Also please remember it only takes a small number of people to ruin a majority of peoples game. even if 1% of an RP server people act like buffoons, 1% of a couple hundred is a lot different than 1% of 40,000.

If someone in the know would respond to our GM’s OP that would be great. And if some of our guild’s other worries and concerns could be mollified or explained, that would be even better. Thank you for your time.

Now if you will excuse me, i just hit level 60 (for the first time) and This Argent Dawn group need my help ridding this poor human town of the Scourge.

I can relate to this type of playstyle a lot more than things like people who say they can’t level first aid without the auction house… which to me is like… that sounds crazy since you get the stuff for first aid just by playing the game.

Part of my gameplay is farming my own stuff. I like it.

There’s an ally raiding guild on Earthfury that does everything for themselves too. There are only like 100 auctions total ally side and not many horde side, and they cleared all the TBCC content while farming all of their own stuff and retaining a roster which is pretty awesome IMO.

Ultimately I get where you’re coming from and sadly Blizzard isn’t likely to do anything for this. :frowning:

Anyway if you go to Grobbulus (and yes it is much bigger and a different experience) let me know if you keep the same name/guild name. I’ll give you 1000g for guild bank tabs.

No. We’re currently working our way through finishing end of vanilla content and will be on that yet for a few weeks.

The crunch to get to Outland/70 isn’t something we focus on.

That is much appreciated as an offer! I believe at the moment we’re thinking Bloodsail Buccaneers… although the free transfers don’t allow for this, so having to pay to go would be further salt in the wound.

If we were Alliance though, I’d almost consider a non-RP server for the first time in my 16 years of WoW for the Earthfury guild.

(Sorry for double post; not sure if you’ll get a notification if I don’t reply to you.)

We’re not 70s and there is no active AH on our server. There are basically the ~10 people who are part of our guild, and that is it. The person who is 70 does not play with us much, either.

All your concerns about moving to Grobbulus are very valid. It is a large server and you will loose the small community feel that you enjoy so much. Sadly there doesn’t seem to be much that can be done about that. But what I can do is at least maybe make the idea of moving to Grobbulus not seem so bad.

First off even with everyone on your server, and any other “dead” server coming to Grobbulus, it would still not reach the population of servers like Benediction and Faerlina. It is a big server, but compared to those 2 it is still “small”. So Grobbulus will be able to handle the influx of players without issue.

While I would say most people on the server these days do not RP. There is still a very strong RP community on the server. Plenty of RP guilds that you can interact with and if you ever find yourself over to the Grobbulus subreddit, they have post all the time about community RP events. Normally based around holidays. Plus a server “newspaper” that can be fun to read.

For community interaction in general, it is a larger server so there are jerks around. Again something that just kinda comes with being on a large server. But with that being said, I moved to Grobbulus about 3 months before TBC came out and for the most part have had positive experiences with most people I come in contact with.

Lastly about it being a West Coast server. I live on the East Coast and my ping on Grobbulus is always around 50-60. I never feel like my ping causes me to be at a disadvantage. And the server is large enough that the time difference between my time and the time on the server is no an issue.

All in all I enjoy my experience on Grobbulus.

Ok… ok… wait a sec… 4 years in and no level 70’s? Thats… something.

Blizzard is doing you a favor. I think that small aquarium you’re in is stunting your growth.

Unfortunately, Blizzard probably won’t do anything for you, although your situation is rather unique; I’ve never experienced it before. They COULD and SHOULD help you, but Blizzard’s track record of helping players is pretty poor.

On the bright side, though, once you’re on that new server, your Auction House should be a little more full, allowing you to make some gold again. Probably not what you wanted to hear, but it’s always nice to have a bright side, no matter how small.

It’s not even three years yet. Everyone TRIES to play the game the way they want to. Considering their population and available players, if they’re set on completing Vanilla content first, it’s understandable that they have no 70s yet. Getting any groups together must have been a nightmare.

3 years is a long time. You don’t need to do group content to level. If you’re waiting on 4 other people because you can’t progress without clearing something like Uldaman? I just don’t have the words.

None of this passes the smell test.

Horde side bloodsail buccaneers is fairly small, it’s not quite as small as deviant delight, it’s mostly a alliance side server. And it’s not an RP/PVP server (Not sure if that is what you want though)

Three years IS a long time. However, it’s not four years. Furthermore, did they START three years ago?

You’re right, you don’t. I never said you did. I said finding groups to clear Vanilla content must have been a nightmare. This doesn’t exclusively mean dungeons while levelling, even though I would say you’d want a full group going into dungeons. I was referring to Vanilla raids.

No idea here. This is like discovering a long lost tribe in the jungle.

Blizzard will be releasing some fresh servers for WotLK. No idea if one of those will be RP-PvP.
