I am looking to return to WoW after 5 years and logged in to find my high level Shaman, Hunter, Monk…etc all missing. I tried following the direction of clearing out the cache, creating a new character, I even renewed my subscription. All to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Are all your characters missing?
Are you logging into the correct wow licence (ie, wow1, wow2 etc), or the correct game version (ie, not classic)?

I am logging into regular WoW, I never played Classic. There seems to be some low level characters but all of the characters I maxed leveled (at the time) are gone.
Try creating a new level 1 character (on the correct WoW License) on the Realm you think the characters were. Sometimes that kicks the system to refresh the character list.
I thought all of my characters were either on Gilneas or Nazgrel…made a level 1 character on both and nothing happened. I am going to try and reach Blizzard again somehow.
There was a level squish several years ago.
Are the characters you remembered as max level back then the same character names of the lower level characters?
Unfortunately no, and the Blizzard website won’t let me submit a ticket.
The forum SFA’s might be able to have a poke around when they’re on duty.
It would help if you could mention the character names you’re looking for.

It’s possible, and I hope it’s not the case here, but it’s possible that your account was hacked while you were away from the game. The hacker would have taken all your character items and gold and deleted the characters. And they often create low level characters to try to advertise in game and fish for more victims to scam. I hope that’s not the case, but you could try submitting a ticket here:

If the account was hacked, the first thing they generally do is make it hard for the account owner to regain control, ie - change password, add authenticator etc.

Make sure you’re on the correct WoW License, i.e WoW1, WoW2, etc.
Sounds like you could possibly be on the wrong license and why you can’t see your old characters.

Thank you all. I am on the right license. Is the WoW armory still a thing? One of my characters name was Adhar, he was my hunter I created in 2006.
Armory is still around, although the characters may not show if you’ve been active for several years. Can’t see a hunter by that character name on the armory currently.
Thanks again for everyone’s input. I found them by going to item restoration. They were on Thunderhorn….although I don’t remember moving them there but it’s also been over 5 years. Anyways I am going to try and create a lvl 1 character when I get home from work and see if that works. Also they are all showing at lvl 120 so I am assuming if I am able to get them back that they will be lvl squished.

Welcome back, and your assumptions would be correct. Also depending on how long you was gone, you names might have been freed up too.

What a great idea!! Glad that worked to locate your old characters. Hopefully there are no issue getting back in the game now… and welcome back!!
