With Wrath of the Lich King just around the corner, I have decided that I want to try and finally learn the ways of the tank. It is the one role that I have never really played in this game, and I figure it is about time.
Initially I planned on making a Blood DK, but I learned that it may not necessarily be the best noob friendly tank. So help a guy out. What do you all consider to the be the best noob friendly tank, and why?

paladin. Gearing is straitforward, and I think dwarf is good so long as you stick to maces and stoneform while not as strong as it once was is still ok cd. Space goats good overall, and human good for general. You are seen as the best tank, and there are less mana issues than in tbc classic.
Im currently a 7/8 tier bear tank. I would recommend pally as they will be the best tank for wrath. Warriors are meh in wrath as tanks and I’m giving up my bear as paly and blood Dks are just so much better. In TBC, palidan are the easiest to gear and get going, while bears are also easy to gear, but take a long time to get going since they can’t just concentrate the ground and be good.
For you pally just makes the most sense, even ret DPS is strong in wrath. There are no downsides while the other tanks will fall off.
DK is very straight forward. A little rougher in dungeons, but in a nutshell
My advice to you would be to find class you will enjoy.
My personal favorite in Wrath are Prot Warriors. Sure, they aren’t the best, but you can still do all content. It would really only matter if you’re part of some hardcore raiding guild that aims to be top 100 world.
Prot paladin is probably the best tank to use as an indication of tanking going forward. Theyre the only tank with aoe threat right now that is worth a damn and in wrath every tank will be able to do aoe - though in prepatch I think warriors are going to do the craziest aoe. Warriors will be the best tank for cd usage but realistically you can get away with trinkets to mimic that aspect of warriors on either paladin or druid. Druid is probably the laziest tank that reaps the most rewards and would also be filling the role that blood dk will in WoTLK. YOull have your shield tank and then your EHP tank.
As a healer main please don’t go dk as your first tank.
Yeah I wouldn’t call DK Noob friendly in its WotLK 3.3.5 iteration. There’s a lot of difference between a strong DK tank and the ones that become known as ‘wet tissue paper’
Played correctly DK is right up there with P-Pala in WotLK.
Also I seriously wouldn’t count on IT, it’s going to get the need bar come beta. The insane threat modifier was only added late in original wrath as a band-aid fix in ICC-HM to overcome an issue with the ICC debuff because DK’s lost a heap of threat on another ability with the dodge/parry nerf.
I highly doubt Blizz will want to see a class role spamming nothing but one button the entire WotLK Classic. More likely they just re work it so B-DK threat is tied more equally across all abilities…including RS and HS.
If I’m being honest if you’re going to tank in wrath They’re all good technically palatin is the strongest Mainly because of its 2nd life.
Yeah if you didn’t know paladins get a basically a cheat death in warth But speaking from someone that’s planning to literally roll one of every single tank.
Technically death Knight puts out the most threat but a palatin has the highest survivability technically depending on how you look at it doesn’t it have more Leach and do more damage but palatins have a lot more raid utility.
If you’re really looking for a guide though on palatin tanking throughout the’s been taking Thor out there but if I’m really being honest overall for playstyle as just a class to pick up and play I would go palatin after that I would say dk.
But for the most part they’re all really fun to play in PVE or PVP believe it or not So I hope I answered your question
Though paladin is prob the safest choice.
Open with bouncy shield.
Keep your Sacred Shield up (Every 60 seconds).
Keep your Holy Shield up (Every 8 seconds).
Keep Divine Plea up (Refreshes on hits)
Use your main attacks 1-4.
Always drop Consecration.
EZ pz.
However, I do think Prot Warrior is the most fun.
You DASH IN, then BOOM Thunderclap! And then BOOM shockwave!
Cleave BAM. Another cleave BAM!
Go AARGGGGGRRRR with Demoralizing Shout!
Then go BASH your shield into their face!
Oh no! Friendly is in trouble! Swooosh with Intervene to them and then ZOOM back to group and BAM thunderclap and BAM shockwave.
Super fun.
Paladin. That is as easy as it gets.
