Heirlooms or Azerite Gear 110-120

characters being significantly weaker when wearing items that are supposed to make leveling easier

being unable to kill mobs while wearing heirlooms because the BFA mobs will just murder you due to lack of stats and output

heirlooms are currently not working as intended. them being an actual liability in combat is unintended.

That’s not a source. You claiming they are bugged is not Blizzard saying they are bugged and will be fixed. That is what I was asking confirmation for.

Ok then. But don’t come screeching when they don’t change them if they don’t think they are bugged. I mean they may be, but counting on them changing them is foolish.

they aren’t doing what they are supposed to do, which is make leveling easier. equipping them is a hard nerf right now, and not even because of the loss of traits.

they have significantly less stamina and primary stat and will get you killed.

they will be buffed and if i were OP i would wait for the change before shelling out a few thousand.

You probably wouldn’t even notice it until you hit 115-116 but that’s due to the overall scaling and your character progressively getting weaker going from 110 to 120. For example you can go from 110 to 112 completely naked and you’d feel quite powerful. The scaling is just so bonkers in bfa…

if you have timewalking badges you can buy upgrades for those, or the fellow in IF sells em also.

Like I said, it is your prerogative, but I have personally seen too many “working as intended” to expect heirlooms to change in any way. Either buy them because you want the exp, or don’t because you want the power (though I mentioned earlier in the thread how to do both), but don’t expect that they will be any better tomorrow.

basically it all boils down to “which would you rather while leveling up.”
azerite gear:

  1. possible decent traits that will boost your dps.

heirlooms:

  1. not having to worry about upgrading gear until 120.
  2. XP bonus

seems like the choice is pretty obvious, if you ask me…

this is true as I have my main who did everything story wise and on my alliance alts I never had to have a certain rep to unlock world quests at 120. but on the other hand on my horde 114 monk I cant find the island expo table at all lol so I cant do them anyways it seems

Not one of my heirlooms is above level 90. It gets too expensive to upgrade them and I’d rather use my gold to buy WoW token sub time then upgrade my heirlooms.

And if I had to choose I think the extra xp would help but I am use to leveling 90 - 120 without heirlooms. Actually it is 98 - 120 because any gear in WoD doesn’t even compete with level 90 heirlooms and the better stuff I hold till I hit Legion content at 98. And while leveling 110 - 120 I think I only ever get 1 or 2 pieces per slot of AZ gear and those are every so many levels not every level.

And I’m guessing that except for the xp boost from heirlooms the gear from quests, which now has a chance to roll to epics, is as good or better then heirlooms. Seems like a personal choice of TTK (time to kill) vs TTL (time to level). I would pick heirlooms, if I had them upgraded, just cause the leveling experience isn’t fun for me anymore. But I would only get about 45% extra xp cause no rings. But still, I think that is only about 6 1/2 - 7 levels compared to full 10. Would save me 3 - 3 1/2 hours with 45% extra xp for levels 110 -120.

There is a quest in Zandalar that introduces you to it. I am not sure if you need to do that quest on an alt. I honestly don’t know, I haven’t done IEs until level 120 (other than the very first one while leveling my main). Of course maintenance and I can’t go see if my levelers can see it or not.

edit: NOT EVERYONE IS HORDE SELF. Replace Zandalar with Boralus.

I spent over 100k upgrading 4 sets of gear, my rings and trinkets. … worth every penny. My toons are flying through levelling now.

Where have you been since August? All mobs get harder at around 117 onwards (not just because of legendaries). You can stave off feeling like Arthas from Warcraft 3 the frozen throne if you have mythic antorus or m+15 titanforged but eventually you’ll get to a point where your secondaries at those levels and especially as a fresh 120 just aren’t enough to reach the breakpoints blizzard set for bfa. And blizzard did that to rather overtly tell people to focus on primary stat aka ilvl.

Everyone has felt this loss of power as we leveled it isn’t a coding error of the heirlooms. That’s why I recommended timewalking. You completely sidestep the loss of power issue by being able to remain at a fixed ilvl throughout the week and having relatively stable stat ratings. After you’re done leveling go to Arathi and darkshore for the world bosses. Be sure to look in the group finder for those roaming raid death squads hunting rares. You’ll be sure to get around 1–3 pieces of 340 and/or 355 gear from each zone respectively.

I highly recommend this method and in addition to getting the now +55 ilvl boost for your next if you are creating alts. Alts that don’t need friendly or any reputation with any faction in order to access world quests. After that if you find a slot that has a low ilvl buy an item off the AH. The combatant gear or a darkmoon deck should work well enough to boost your ilvl so that you start seeing higher ilvl world quest rewards. Be sure to do the warfront tier 3 quests (the quest from the person at the table), to get access to 370 and 400 gear. Add in incursions and emissaries. And you should be able rinse and repeat this with many alts up to around 385 all without spending a second in lfr or any dungeon.

And even if what you said was true, you’ll be so quick out of your heirlooms through the aid of others that it won’t even matter.

Go with equipping all heirloom gear. Don’t skip on the extra 30% XP.

The 3 pieces of azerite gear for leveling are junk and just don’t make a difference at all.

Wouldn’t it just be best to wear azerite stuff for killing thing then swapping to heirlooms for quest hand ins?

it’s not exactly a huge dps gain by wearing azerites- the traits aren’t even BiS unless you get extremely lucky running a dungeon… even then, it’s only 1 outer ring, not two.

Idk. Personally I’d rather have the heirloom exp buff, simply due to the fact that I’m leveling my shaman right now as resto, and speedy dungeon queues for the timewalking event+the exp increase from all the heirlooms? Yeah I’ll take that over meh azerite traits that aren’t gonna make a massive difference during the leveling experience.

this is how i level all my alts too. i did the storyline/questing with my first toon. the rest are just to get to 120 the quickest way- and i’m a random dungeon spammer. when TW’ing’s there, it’s even better because then you can get those other fill-ins to round out your gear.

You can upgrade them with timewalking tokens.
