I was trying to figure out how much gold I would need to upgrade my heirloom gear, some of which has been upgraded to 1/4 and some to 2/4.
Newly purchased (0/4 upgraded) gear scales from levels 1 to 29.
Upgrade Armor Casings or Scabbards scale as such:
1/4 - scales to 35
2/4 - scales to 40
3/4 - scales to 45
4/4 - scales to 50
However, the gear I currently have that is 1/4 only scales to 34, and the gear I currently have that is 2/4 only scales to 39. This means that to upgrade these items, I would have to re-purchase the Armor Casings or Scabbards to upgrade them to the level they already are.
Is this a bug or intended behavior?
I noticed this, too, and I think it’s designed this way. From what I’ve seen with use, it shouldn’t create any gaps in leveling up. Based on this level restriction, a level 50 character can’t use it to get to 51, so they made the cutoffs on the -9s rather than the -0s but that’s just what I assumed. I think the experience potion from BFA used to be able to be used up to 50 but they recently made it up to 49 for this reason. *Edit: this means you shouldn’t have to “re-upgrade”

Oh, I see. You are correct, Marwenna. So, the bug is that they have not updated the descriptions on the Heirloom Armor Casings and Heirloom Scabbards, which state inaccurate things.
So, I was able to apply a 2/4 upgrade to a 1/4 item that scaled up to 34, such that it now scales up to 39, even though the Armor Casing stated “Upgrade to level 40”, and also stated, “Only works on heirlooms that scale to 35.”

Ah that makes sense! I’m sure they missed updating some of those details since they’ve made so many changes. Considering the investment, it’s good to check before you do anything. I’m glad they worked for you. Hopefully they’ll notice this for future fixes.

Yeah, I’m actually much happier with this being some behavior that they changed, and just missing updating the wording on the upgrade items, than forcing us to actually re-upgrade!

Still the same thing with the heirloom upgrades.
5/5 - scales to 60; only useable on heirlooms that scale to 50.
Should be scales to 59; only useable on heirlooms that scale to 49.
