Heirlooms are Underwhelming

I just upgraded my heirlooms to 120 and they seem to be a bit underpowered to me. They seem to be more comparable to uncommon quality gear rather than rare quality gear. I’m on a 113 hunter and I’m coming across some questing gear with a higher item level than my heirlooms. Why? And they’re just uncommon quality. I think heirlooms should get their item level increased by 5 at least. That’s not even asking for much, 10 would be ideal. It’s really disappointing since I’ve been waiting for weeks to finally upgrade them.

The heirlooms exist for the bonus xp, not to be super amazing items.

Blizzard discussed this a while ago.

It’s also weird that you miss out on the azerite armor traits. I guess thats the price we pay

I’m not asking for them to be “super amazing items.” Their stats are undesirable at the moment. And speaking of azerite armor, the item level on the two pieces my hunter has are both 285 while my heirlooms are 233 (at 113). A little item level boost would be nice considering how much I just spent on them.

That’s the sacrifice you make if you want boosted xp while you level.

My heirlooms only go to 100 because I don’t find leveling to be all that slow past that. This is coming from someone who leveled 14 toons to 110 in Legion.

I only have 3 120’s in BFA but that’s largely due to having play time cut in half.

Nothing should be sacrificed. I was around when heirlooms were on par with rare gear and that’s the way it should be. Weapons, necklaces, and trinkets don’t even give an xp boost so what’s Blizzard’s excuse about them? Not to mention that upgrading my weapons cost more than upgrading the other stuff.

I personally didn’t care about azerite armor dps and was more interested in the survivability increase from Vampiric Speed (heal + movement speed for each mob killed) but here is the reference post since I was in that thread as well

Yes heirlooms need to be buffed.

I was around before heirlooms were even a thing so be thankful they’re even in the game at all.

They’re in the game to increase leveling speed and that’s what they do. If you can’t stand how “weak” they are in comparison to quest items, don’t use them.

But I want to use them. They’re literally the only thing I was looking forward to in this patch and so far I’m disappointed. If they’re not going to boost the item level, then at least add xp bonuses to the necklaces, weapons, and trinkets. Then you can call it a true trade off for the sole purpose of them serving as an xp bonus. For the time being, they’re still underpowered and should get a buff.

Blizz nerfed Heirlooms to be on par with greens rather than blues a few patches ago.

Heirlooms are only meant to give exp boost.

I mean seriously, as long as I’m leveling faster I’ll take the hit.

Unfortunately for you they nerfed them quite a while back so I wouldn’t count on them being buffed. They’re simply meant to increase leveling speed and not much else. Sucks that they’re underpowered for you but that’s the way it’s gonna stay probably. :frowning:

Upgrading the rest of my weapons might be completely pointless then if they’re not going to either increase the item level or add an xp bonus to them. It’s kind of dumb that the weapons even have a separate price. I didn’t even bother upgrading my weapons in the last expansion (for obvious reasons) but spending 10k to upgrade each weapon (from 100 to 120) just seem like a really stupid idea to me right now.

Heirlooms seem pointless if they are for xp only and not a stat advantage. What Blizzard should have done was just made a buff locked behind an achievment for a 45% xp buff across your account when leveling a new toon. It’s obvious the main intention of looms is a gold sink.

This was pointed out in the PTR.

Just a gold sink with very minimal return in investment.
