A heirloom item to max level is worth 40-45k gold. At this price they are supposed to either be :
Grossly overpowered for their level making your toon unstoppable and providing a fun leveling experience as you dominate a bit like remix
Get back their 20-30% experience boost if they are to be average so that you are not overpowered but the experience flows in faster at least.
Currently, a 45k item is in between a white and a green in power. Regular quest rewards are usually stronger and higher ilvl.
Plus the Heirlooms are bind on equip. so if I enchant them I cannot pass them to another character anymore.
I, and many others, spend a million or more gold leveling all heirlooms. They require to be looked at and balanced back to be worth the time we invested in them IMHO
They are fine, you’re just mad because leveling rn is a joke due to prepatch/remix and this has invalidated your purchases. Sunken cost fallacy in action folks. Accept that the value you gained out of them wasn’t enough and move on.
Leveling needs to be a joke, no one plays this game to level, we play this game to do endgame content.
Who enjoys playing through zones that are 20 years old ? They don’t even fit the lore anymore. Have you ever started a human and read the intro when you are not picking Exile’s Reach.
Why wouldn’t you just mail an enchant to the “other character” who can create an heirloom from scratch? Are you on a dead server where enchants are priced sky-high, because that’s not an heirloom problem, it’s a “dead servers should be merged into live ones” problem.
+1 for this! Although I think @Nikolo is right that “heirlooms are an abandoned system at this point” and you should not bother spending 1 gold on them until after Blizz has instituted changes making them worthwhile (which is probably never).
There is literally a new heirloom in the War Within prepatch event.
As a religious user of heirlooms, they are fine if you use them in the intended lane.
They pair extremely well with an alt army and follower dungeons, which start at level 10 now. This will likely translate to delves eventually as well!
They are worth the gold, and managing rest XP among many alts pays off bigtime given the nature of the set bonuses.
Indeed, darkmoon faire week is practically “follower dungeon alt army week” now, for those using heirlooms to their fullest.
They aren’t for everyone, but they certainly do still have a place in the game, practically more than ever with a full leveling path consisting of instances one can run on their own time.
that feels like a failure of design. what good is leveling a alt if i have to stack up rested xp. thats only good if i play a alt every other week and not level them up with the desire to level quick. there not even fine if you use them in the intended lane because the intended lane is gear you dont replace while leveling. it use to be gear that speeds up leveling. if it wasnt for the enchants i would be replacing heirlooms every time something drops in a dungeon. they dont even scale good enough to justify them as a way to hold xmog while lvling
A new heirloom doesn’t make the system any less dead. Just like every other heirloom, it is no better than gear you can pick up from quests and dungeons.
And I have to 100% disagree with you there. With the TWW xp nerf, the number of hours required to level from 1-70 is in the single digits.
For the average player, the 10s of thousands of gold to upgrade the gear is definitely not worth it.
really? they are light blues at best - their color is even light blue; they used to be dark blues before they were forever changed - unless an epic item dropped, swapping out that slot almost never happened. now a days, regular blues are better stats
I think it’s worth saying that I would welcome the an xp bonus or a price reduction, I just don’t think heirlooms are useless. The guarantee of a “good enough” baseline item in most gear slots is worth a lot to me personally. I vendor all leveling gear drops covered by heirlooms until I’m within a couple levels of their cap.
Literally last night, my best friend and I, who met in WOTLK when I interrupted her farming crafting materials in dragonblight, were all nostalgia mushy about flying around dragonblight for the prepatch event.
We do WOTLK chromie time when she has an alt to level and we feel like dungeons (I do follower dungeons when alone) and reminisce.
Yes, the content is old, but this is home.
Anyway, back on topic, I love heirlooms but wouldn’t begrudge a rework to increase their value given the very real gold sink that I may pay happily, but they can always improve!
They noted this was an issue and released the following notification recently:
Thanks for your feedback on Heirlooms! We originally planned to convert heirlooms to be Warbound until equipped to keep gear consistently using the new bind type. Upon further consideration, we’d like to continue to support the playstyle of setting up heirlooms with enchants and gems, then passing them to alts as needed. Given the 11.0.0 patch is today, we can’t easily fix this in the current patch, but it will be changed back in the upcoming 11.0.2 patch.
While unfortunately your gear will become bound if you enchant/equip until the next patch, once it comes out, your heirloom gear will revert to Warbound, allowing you to again pass it between alts after equipping / enchanting it. We apologize for the temporary inconvenience and again, thank you so much for the feedback.
While it isnt an immediate fix, at least they are doing something about it.
The heirlooms should be BiS in low level content PvE and PvP. They should be hard and expensive to get but also have PvP versions/gear that are much easier to get that will be BiS in Warmode and instanced PvP stuff.
Bring back low level BGs. In all content, if you have warmode on, you earn account bound XP tokens instead of experience. You can send these to alts with some exceptions given new level caps.
The XP tokens grows in strength, by level, so these are upgradeable and can also be split up probably up to 3 per character. They are equipped by a reworked warmode menu…
