Since damage is reduced vs other players, is healing? If it isnt, why not?
its called dampening
I understand how dampening works, but why is it only in arenas and why is it not set at a specific value from the start?
It is reduced, crit healing is 1.5x instead of 2x just like damage.
This is not the same rate at which damage is reduced though, correct? Damage has a much greater reduction I believe, and not just for crits.
No it doesn’t damage and healing both have a base of 1.5x for crits. There are some specs with certain abilities toned down but there are some abilities healing and damage wise that are given a boost in pvp too.
Really? How come against other players or on a PvP dummy my dps is so much lower?
Azerite trait and corruptions scaling down
Because of the azerite traits being halfed across the board like said above. You’re always gonna do more damage in pve than pvp you cant compare the 2.
I see. Did not realize this.
Healing seems extremely over tuned to me. The fact that dampening is even a thing leads me to believe its a common thought. Why not tune healing in PvP to be more in line with the amount of damage we are doing so 3rd party dampening systems are necessary to kill someone?
Imagine complaining about dmg being low this season… its not like everyone isn’t rocking 70% Vers or 100% gushing…
“The healing is TOO DANG HIGH!” /sarc
oh boy, another “I couldnt mongo down a healer in 1v1 so nerf healers ty” thread lol
Why does dampening exist then?
because in COMPETITIVE pvp, AKA arenas, where you have 2 teammates that you HAND PICK to play with you in COMPETITIVE pvp, it is much harder to kill healers because their TEAMMATES which they selected to participate with them in COMPETITIVE pvp will actually play around their healer, whereas in CASUAL pvp, where people are mouthbreathing mongoloids and tunnelvision one person, this does not happen often, which would lead to healers flopping instantly in CASUAL pvp - and also because if you can 1v1 healers of equal skill level, there is no point in having a healer.
Dampening exists because the amount of self healing from dps classes have gotten out of control.
Dampening exists because they allow you to drink in arena. With really good teammates, you can allow your healer to drink to full mana.
If drinking was dis-allowed in arena, whatever healer goes oom first would lose (unless you lose in a setup with Rogue/Mage - or you get one-shot by a lock/mage -which is happening this meta-)
Blizzard thinks being able to get drinks in arena is a sign of skill - so they use dampening to force a kill with dampening compositions that aren’t OMEGA-BURST such as Rogue/Mage or Lock/Mage.
Further… if Dampening wasn’t a thing, whatever the tankiest Dps is (or even tanks in general) would be the meta comp.
its because some comps live rly long like mlchi while some comps like rmp die out fairly quick they cant make it a static healing amount
Since when has rmp died out fairly quickly in BFA?
So basically they are using dampening as a way to level the playing field for dps classes that provide a sustained level of damage but perhaps not enough burst to get through a healers throughput without dampening?
Thanks for summing up my random thoughts in that post - Yes
