Piggybacking off another thread I saw about add-ons; I realized that this game is quite literally unplayable as a healer in almost any kind of max level content without add-ons.
You think I am kidding? Try creating a 110 trial character and giving it a whirl. Do one single heroic dungeon. Multiple healers have sometimes 15 spells that MUST be used to be efficient. So… How do you even target people to heal? Good question. Clicking their party frames or pressing I think f1 or f2, to target the 1st or 2nd person in the window. Best part? Now you cannot use the f1 or f2 keys as a hotkey.
So. Vuhdo and I have heard of HealBot, allow you to hot key spells that are pressed on the little box for the person in your party. Now. I know what you’re thinking, drama queen, right? Wrong. It is TERRIBLE and unplayable to heal without either of these add-ons.
Why does Blizzard keep designing the game to be so complicated that you require add-ons in order to even function? Sure, added complexity can be fun. Spell bloat? Isn’t. Nor is the horrible system of how to target people to heal. Go make a resto shaman. Check it out. There are about 30 spells. All of which are actually used in one dungeon run or raid. Look at your bar… 10 spaces? Yeah. You get the idea.
Does anyone else feel the same or am I just a lunatic thicc daddy?

Really? I’ve been playing just fine with none for many years. I mean I think I use elvui but mostly just to shrink down things I don’t really use like bags and my spellbar.

So how to do you target people to heal? Also, what is the hardest content you heal? Do you ever do +15 or higher mythics or heroic raids? just curious
I’ve got friends who progression raid with no healing add-ons. Some use nothing, some use macros. I don’t find an add-on a necessity. But me personally, I do use Healbot. Though I dislike the new version.

I click the player in the party frame??? Is this a joke?

I find that very difficult to believe, but stranger things have happened lol. I would feel AT MINIMUM macros would have to be used. Without them, it would be miserable and those half of seconds extra to casts spell could spell a wipe during progression.
Uh huh. What what is the hardest content you’ve healed regularly? For my own research.
For “research.” Just keep practicing.
I actually agree with you about healing lol. I don’t like using addons that much and I wish WoW just updated the game better. I literally have no idea how to heal without bot addon but what can ya do?
It’s possible. It’s just targeting keybinds and mouse buttons using a G600. Lord knows I wouldn’t want to do it, but it can be done. I was impressed watching my friend do it. I’m jealous of his capability. lol
That is what I thought. Also, healing in classic is 400x easier because you have about 2 spells and no pressure. In addition, healing heroic dungeons or LFR is like, well, sleeping on the job when compared to a 15+ with grievous or heroic/mythic raids.
Just saying, don’t knock someone saying keep trying when the stuff you heal is literally 1/10th the difficulty.
Yeah I cannot imagine. The real question is why? Just to do it? Why not have a 10x easier life. I mean, it’s like manually updating a spreadsheet every day for two hours with complex filters and stuff, when you could automate it using power query and pivot tables with 2 hours of research on youtube.
He doesn’t feel the need for anything except DBM and doesn’t want to become dependent on something that could break. Many of my friends are like that. They’re add-on lite. Whereas I use a crap ton.

Makes sense. Imagine if blizz banned the use of any heal addon lol. Unlikely, but you know. It would be ROUGH for awhile. I would likely stop healing and tank instead to be honest.

Default raid frames and mouseover macros. You dont need addons for healing.

You don’t inherently need addons, but at the absolute bare minimum you need at least mouseover macros if you want to be even vaguely competitive as a healer.
But regardless, it’s still a very valid point that Healers have a larger barrier in regards to competency compared to Tanks or DPS, which mostly just need nameplates and to not click their buttons and they’re good to go.

Mouseover macros. It’s something you can set up without addons if you didn’t know.

Mouseover targeting should really be an option in the base UI at this point.

Try Healium. It’s stupid simple and easy to set up. Don’t recommend it during raids though cause it would cover a lot of your screen, unless you make it super small.
I used to use add-ons to heal (not on my paladin, but my hpriest) and I loved it. Then in Legion when I switched my healer to Monk, I just stopped. I was lazy and the content I was doing wasn’t that difficult, lfr. Then I became a mouse clicker-a few of my main spells bound to a mouse button, but other wise I’d just point and click. I was still “efficient” and did my job (top of the charts for healing done, bottom for overheating). It’s all personal preference at this point and if you take away the “bloat” of my Hpriest I will start cutting people.
I love my massive tool box and still miss some of the pruned spells (Lightwell! Give me back my light well! I miss the dps raging about heals cause clicking it was too hard)
This is absolutely false. The number of keybinds a Classic priest uses is almost the same as what a lvl 50 holy priest uses now:
At least two different ranks of greater heal, at least two ranks of flash heal, at least one rank of heal, at least two ranks of prayer of healing, PW:S, renew, inner focus, inner fire, power infusion, single target PW:Fortitude, group wide Prayer of fortitude, single target spirit and prayer of spirit, single target shadow protection and prayer of shadow protection, smite, holy fire, shadow word: pain, mind blast, psychic scream, mind control, holy nova, two unique racial abilities (for dwarves as an example, fear ward and desperate prayer)… There are probably a few abilities I have missed, and all spells I listed are used often.
Classic has many downsides, but saying healers get only a few important spells is a blatant lie.
