When it come to any subj around flying at this point no matter who says what. Seems if someone disagrees with them. The main argument back when they don’t really have an honest one, is just simply calling them a troll.
I can’t speak for the team as I’m not in that room, but if I had to take a stab at what they might say interpolating from other things they have said:
They probably want people to be able to choose whichever style they like best for whatever activity they’re doing without creating a gameplay loop where rapidly swapping becomes optimal due to some circumstance either unforeseen or that they’re already aware of. Yes, denizens of the forums, I already here you replying “rapidly swapping is what I WANT TO DO JUST LET ME!!!” but you know, ultimately the team has to make the decisions that craft the best experience for a broad range of people- they have to make tough decisions that sometimes you may not like or understand. That’s life. Become a game dev and make your own game with blackjack and instant flight style swapping.
no offense, but the players who DONT want to swap…wont…and the players who DO want to swap will be hindered…this ISNT ‘crafting the best experience’ for literally ANYONE. lol
But that’s exactly what they want you to do. Force you to use skyriding so you get used to it, and when you unlock old style you keep using both. It’s a conspiracy take lol, not serious but I wouldn’t be shocked if that was the intent.
Rapid swapping is what we can already do in game right now.
This new implementation in beta is a huge downgrade from what we have in game right now. If this isn’t what the devs wanted… well, too bad, genie is out of the bottle now, and I’m pretty unhappy about them taking away what we have now.
Toggle it on. Toggle it off. Toggle it back and forth repeatedly. Walk to unlock each flight path. It’s nice to have options.
I hadn’t bothered to even try it out on the beta so I went to see what, if any, the issues might be for me. I don’t like that I get dismounted, and I would ultimately prefer to have a static flight only mount as an option. I don’t hate it at least and can live with it.
If they added the ability to toggle between old flight and skyriding per mount, and then add a skyriding / ground randomizer button and a old style / ground randomizer it would be preferable. Make the mounts you want to be the old style or new and then let the randomizer work how it always does.
So, just one example- the simplest I can think of, is that dynamic flight is itself a mini-game. As many have pointed out, once you are good at managing your vigor you very rarely run out. Part of incentivizing improvement and the feeling of being rewarded by improvement is the delay of being grounded while your vigor recharges when you are learning how things work. If people are literally just burning vigor as fast as possible and hot swapping to swim flight during the recharge time the whole mini game is undermined and you’ve now created a system that is less rewarding for people that like dynamic flight while also baiting people that prefer swim flying into uneeded complexity in their gameplay. Yes, I realize there are some players who are going to say they dont find any of this rewarding and just want to go A to B as fast as possible at all times because they hate all of it.
Suddenly we’ve got a more complex picture than what youre painting in your post, and we’re barely scratching the surface.
lol…no. we literally dont.
some players WONT want to swap. They’ll be fine.
Some players WILL want to swap…they get screwed.
its literally that simple.
NO ONES game is made better with this set up.
