Before the whole Mythic+ thing, people could craft top level gear, you ran Heroic dungeons to earn currency towards better gear. You followed the story more closely. You still ran the same dungeons as these Mythic+ keys, but there was no need for IO, no need for worrying about keys, none of the BS with rage quitters, etc.
What happened is the developers got lazy. Instead of giving us content that keeps us busy, they developed this whole Mythic+ strategy. Well, it’s backfiring, and big. People are bored sick of the whole requirements of it and especially the extremely rude kiddies that have no concept of how to treat people. They live behind technology, instead of face to face with people. No, a high IO score doesn’t make you man. Sorry to bust your ego.
I don’t bash people for running the keys, there isn’t anything else really do to. The raids have gotten so boring compared to Legion and Mists. No desire to run them.
They say the next expansion may be next year. Well great. We will have something to do, then endgame will again consist of what??? Mythic+.
They’ve got to up their game and develop the game, ditch the whole Mythic+ thing altogether. If the content was there, very few people would miss that key crap.
It’s not mythic+ fault. It’s how the dev team distributes loot that needs to be changed. I’d love if BS mattered again, I’d love if engineering actually did something besides being pet/toy/mount maker. I’d rather them take the timer away, just make it get increasingly harder until gear wise you can’t do it anymore. Or your group just gives up. That be pretty rad! So then players who wanna get into mythic+ would have to gear from other sources I.e. crafting/WQ’s or whatever until they can attempt a mythic+.
As far as how loot would be given out per win I’m not sure. They could adapt the current pvp format, with a 25%-50% chance of gear to drop after each run. Then restore pvp vendors back to us >:)
I’m optimistic about megadungeons. I think Mechagon was a test to feel out the playerbase’s tolerance for difficult 5 man content, without repeating the rage induced by Cata launch. I think it’ll have a place in our character progression.
That’s a thought. I like it. Anything that doesn’t have to have a whole scoring system, just to play it. My IO is great on my main. about 1400, but the higher your keys and score goes, the more jerks you run into. It gets pretty damn annoying. It’s even toxic.
Get rid of that whole mess and I could go for megadungeons.
See you brought up Raider io and you invalidated everything you just said. My guess, you tried to get a 10 and couldnt get into one cause you have a low io. When you did get into one it was probably bad cause they didnt care about Io. im guessing you messed up a lot of mechanics and wiped your group multiple times which caused a rage quit. TLDR of your post was, im bad so im gonna complain. Thanks.
Before Mythic+, I ran dungeons until my gear was good enough for raiding. After that I never went back. There was never a reason to.
Result was all that time Blizzard spent designing their dungeons… and it was content that I spent maybe 3 weeks of an expansion farming. After that it was obsolete.
Mythic+ is awesome because it keeps dungeons relevant. If Mythic+ didn’t exist only new 120 alts would even be doing dungeons now.
I think the killing the timer may be somewhat of a fix for the toxicity of higher key groups. And yes, loot distribution is undeniably broken beyond all comprehension.
I wish they would compartmentalize gear somewhat. Like allow cross over at lower to mid levels but bis gear for a particular activity comes from that activity. They did this in the past via resilience for pvp.
It would allow for more interesting gear to be put out there that would otherwise be too overpowered when used in other activities and remove this issue where we have so much gear coming at us from so many different sources that it all feels worthless / does not feel like we work towards anything.
Blizzard has in the last few years been trying to turn all of their IP’s into esports.
Heroes of the Storm. Despite the devs saying it was a casual game and never designed for serious competitive play (it only had QM initially), the execs pushed it anyway. Now it’s dead.
Overwatch was more successful in that regard, but balancing issues and staleness and the rise of the Battle royale genre hurt it.
Diablo 4 I suspect will be designed around esport streaming.
Yes I think Activision Blizzard execs noticed that whenever esports hits it can hit hard and win big. The got addicted on it. Overwatch proved strong in the esports scene and so did Hearthstone. Starcraft 2 used to be revered for its esports scene, oh how the mighty have fallen.
HotS was pushed really hard with those tournaments and Heroes of the Dorm featured on ESPN3, but it ultimately flopped and it left a lot of good players out of the job and a lot of pretty useless knowledge/practice that were spent months acquiring. It wasn’t going to beat LoL or DOTA. Shame, really.
Sadly, Blizz won’t stop catering to the competitive crowd, something which, in their imagination, is bigger than in reality. There will always be the World First neckbeards and the Big PvPness guys, but the vast majority of the players don’t like being shoehorned into any of these roles. LFG/LFR is still huge. M+ might not be so greatly abhorred if they removed the timer and preformed group requirements. Crafting might be worthwhile again if they removed the BOP nature of all of the Crafting MacGuffins that the more competitive players will be acquiring in large numbers (and probably vendoring).
I think the main thing that attracts Blizzard to esports is the fact is basically a neverending promotional vehicle. And it gives the impression your game is doing well even if you are paying for all the events out of your own pocket. None of it is grassroots.
Basically its giving the perception your IP’s are doing well, even if they are not, so in the corporate world that translates to perceived stock value.
Either play the game or dont. If you’re not having fun, no one is forcing you to stay and play a game you dont like. Find something else that brings you happiness since it clearly isn’t WoW
