Not gonna lie, I somewhat enjoy Asmongold at times even though he’s a leech (most of his stuff is just reactions to other people’s efforts, which is kind of cheap), but his reaction videos are often a good introduction to really good content creators, so that’s often where I start (and then usually go to the actual content creator video). So with that disclaimer, I want to point out something he just said that resonated with me and something that I believe has plagued WoW for as long as I can remember.
Here’s the quote:
“Most difficulty in World of Warcraft is derived from not being able to see what’s happening on the screen…it is so stupid…”
etcetera, etcetera…
Now, he is prone to hyperbole so I am not going to vouch for the absolute certainty of his statement but the underlying premise carries a lot of weight and seems to have become worse, not better, over time (despite advances in computing power across the board as well as adjustments to the game engine).
If there’s one thing I can say to Blizzard Devs is… stop and look what’s going on, get a better handle on how you visually represent what’s actually happening, and quit relying on addons to cover for what often seems to be a sloppy approach to designing a video game.
That said, I actually am enjoying Dragonflight very much, I also am enjoying Mythic+ and the progression toward KSM. Even the affixes don’t bother me that much, though they do often seem to punish healers as we are allowed the fewest mistakes while still fulfilling our role. In fact, I like the affixes and the “actiony” gameplay that Mythic+ dungeons offer.
But seriously, a video game needs to visually display what’s going on well. And if it doesn’t, it’s poor design, poor execution, or both.
If a Blizz Dev reads this, thank you for giving it a moment of your time. I hope on some level this resonates with some of you as well.
