Hate to quote Asmongold but here goes... listen up!

Not gonna lie, I somewhat enjoy Asmongold at times even though he’s a leech (most of his stuff is just reactions to other people’s efforts, which is kind of cheap), but his reaction videos are often a good introduction to really good content creators, so that’s often where I start (and then usually go to the actual content creator video). So with that disclaimer, I want to point out something he just said that resonated with me and something that I believe has plagued WoW for as long as I can remember.

Here’s the quote:

“Most difficulty in World of Warcraft is derived from not being able to see what’s happening on the screen…it is so stupid…”

etcetera, etcetera…

Now, he is prone to hyperbole so I am not going to vouch for the absolute certainty of his statement but the underlying premise carries a lot of weight and seems to have become worse, not better, over time (despite advances in computing power across the board as well as adjustments to the game engine).

If there’s one thing I can say to Blizzard Devs is… stop and look what’s going on, get a better handle on how you visually represent what’s actually happening, and quit relying on addons to cover for what often seems to be a sloppy approach to designing a video game.

That said, I actually am enjoying Dragonflight very much, I also am enjoying Mythic+ and the progression toward KSM. Even the affixes don’t bother me that much, though they do often seem to punish healers as we are allowed the fewest mistakes while still fulfilling our role. In fact, I like the affixes and the “actiony” gameplay that Mythic+ dungeons offer.

But seriously, a video game needs to visually display what’s going on well. And if it doesn’t, it’s poor design, poor execution, or both.

If a Blizz Dev reads this, thank you for giving it a moment of your time. I hope on some level this resonates with some of you as well.

I can sound profound too.

“If you hit your buttons more, more things will happen.”

Use your own words/brain and say what specific mechanic isn’t being handled properly. Like for me, I’ll say it’s Raz and her stupid strafing beam. There is no reason why the line can’t be clearly marked with definitive edges making it clear which bodies are in/out of it instead of trying to guess with the weird windy wispy effect. Do I think it should be changed? Absolutely. Is it game breaking? No.

I think most things in mythic+ are telegraphed well enough. Can/should Blizzard take the FFXIV route and standardize telegraphs? Absolutely but none I see are wholly unfair.

Ooh, can I try?

I’ve always said Blizz needs to get with it and streamline AoE and other raid mechanic markers/indicators.

Need to have a dictionary for all the different blue AoEs and what their unique icons mean is hampering to getting new players, which is what they are aiming for currently.

Tiny blue swirls on blue floors is incredibly poor raid design. Add in monstrous wings that cover them up is bound to cause unneeded issues.

Another source of difficulty is simply the time it takes to run back to the boss.

But yeah, the choreography in this game is aweful. They need to standardize it thoroughly, as well as making it clear where the true boundaries on aoe is.

With swirlies or fog it’s impossible to tell where the aoe ends, or if you are suppose to avoid it or stand in it?

They should add checkpoints in that port you by the bosses arena.

Sometimes I think it’s simply the fact I need to play either dual monitor or just on larger like a 49"

:dragon: :ocean::dragon: :ocean:

Coming back to WoW from time in FF makes the game feel weird.

WoW has a chaos with no flow to it. Like there’s no rhythm you can sink into because the game is forcing constant decisions. It’s good and bad. Good because it keeps things interesting. Bad because being in a rhythm can actually feel good (Presuming you can clear in due time…).

I am always amazed at how this one guy has the blandest, obvious takes and everyone quotes him and praises him for it lol

Dual is better , large would be too distracting

this feels akin to blaming the controller.

I don’t think he’s entirely wrong, there’s definitely spots where visibility is poor and it’s hard to see mechanics, but 90% of the time I can see most swirlies/bad effects clearly and it’s my own stupidity that gets me killed.

last boss of court is the only one I really had trouble with and they fixed that.

Just FYI, it wasn’t necessary to quote him for this post.

asmongold moree like asmongod hes rich yall just haters

I mean, he’s not really wrong. The game would be pretty simple, at least as it currently stands, if everything was designed in a very specific manner. As it is, it seems like half of the mechanics that exist in the game are only there just to be there with little to no rhyme or reason other than adding “difficulty,” which is more akin to annoyance than anything.

To paraphrase Asmondgold, “Andrew Tate is like MLK.”

Yeah, I’m not putting much stock in anything Asmondgold says.
