Has Wow Abandoned Casual Players

Dragonflight is pretty casual friendly at the moment.

I’m fairly happy with the gearing system as it is, both with the aquisition and upgrade system.

I do feel that PvP gearing could still use some work, it really sucks that I can easily upgrade my blue PvP gear with honor, only to get suddenly stuck at the bottom rank (out of 9 ranks? wtf?) once I get my conquest pieces.

It’s not content. LFR bosses are glorified target dummies. If at any point they become more challenging than that, players complain.

I am an extremely average player. I have no delusions that I am elitist.

No. I grew up in a different generation. I learned that everyone does not win. I also learned that losing is ok. It provides an opportunity to learn and get better.

Unfortunately, that is no longer taught. Everyone wants their trophy and shiny star. People expect things to be dumbed down because actually trying is “not cool.”

I’m a very casual player. I can pretty much only play on the weekend in the morning and afternoon.

I’m having a blast.

But again, here we have another endless thread where “casual” has no real meaning.

Your generation’s the one who demanded participation trophies for the generation you think is incapable lmao

Yeah, that’s basically like 90% of what Ard does.

Gotta give him credit though, he’s got a winning record on arguments that exist in his head!

The one before me, I wasn’t old enough to have kids when people started to get on myspace and come up with this.

No one is incapable. That is the point. Have pride. Get good.

if anything they’ve eroded the midcore audience

Well, yeah. People like you think your $15 is some how more valuable than casuals.

It’s like the question: “which is heavier: a ton of bricks or a ton of feathers?” Hate to break it to you but they weight the same and a mythic raider isn’t any more valuable than someone who pet battles.

It’s all $$$ to Blizzard so if they’re smart they’ll continue to try to appease both sides. Unless you think the top 1% of players can pay all the bills?

I think they could forgo catering to the 1% and the game would be just fine.

I would love to see REAL rares come back. Maybe they can reuse some mount models to cut down on art load to start with.

Challenge tames were a hoot too, I want more of those.

Especially now that hunters can have MASSIVE stables.

What you’ve just described is a gamers progression playing a game, not the game itself.

When you’re playing for the first time, you get that fun adventure and exploration experience. That’s something you only get once, then move on to mastering your favorite class which is where the “mad skills” come into play.

The problem is, we want that new experience again and Blizzard isn’t giving us enough. Recycling dungeons in the key rotation, new zones that you can complete in a week or two, and lack luster story all contribute to our disappointment.

esports ruined WoW

I think that’s a really valid take. I believe that’s where I fell in this game for the longest time. I’d progression raid, scheduled for 5-6 hours a week, and then I’d level or do whatever other activities interested me, and it’d have absolutely no influence on my ability to raid competitively in my skill bracket.

Something about the addition of M+ and the great vault really drove me away from raiding, which was all I was here for as a group activity. The rest was solo play.

I don’t really think they “cater” to anyone. They’re just not very good at balancing anything well, and I can imagine that’s a very difficult task.

As a casual world player who dabbles with LFD and LFR on occasion, I think they’re putting a lot of effort into this game for the way I play. I don’t feel neglected at all.

I only really have the following complaints:

  • With the story being in content more demanding than I’m willing to put an effort into (even though there are accessible options coming later), I wind up experiencing it on Youtube instead of in the game, which just feels pretty bad. I could wait months longer to see it, but it’s old news by then for some of the more invested players I enjoy talking about WoW with. That and it’s spoiled everywhere almost as soon as it drops.
  • I don’t feel like there are really any goals in the world other than getting the currency/rep for a new pet or mount I may never use. Would be nice to have something that makes this gear feel valuable in the same scope of how it’s acquired.
  • I miss the old robust leveling experience and I wish there was something like it at end game.

But DF is a solid expac and they are trying so many new things to bring value to the most casual of playstyles. To say they cater to harder playstyles is asinine.

it is very painful even with the buff thing you have to grind for rep for everyone and it becomes mind numbing. it is so damn annoying. i have not leveld my druid bc it isnt fun doin it all from 1 again. they need to make it acc /faction wide, the other bandaids of rep bonus isnt working lmao.

They’re clearly catering a lot of the class design around the rated content. I wouldn’t even include raids here, because raid balance is a lot easier since they can have more classes represented in the raid.

Trying to balance the game around 5 man competitive content has been a nightmare, and it has created a ton of homogenization in the class design.

Look at the uproar over the new Evoker spec, I bet this support spec will be totally removed from the game in the next expansion because the game just isn’t designed to be able to accommodate support classes.

IDK, I haven’t found another class that plays very similarly to my shadow priest.

Affliction Warlock? I will give you that S priest is kind of unique as far as rotation goes.

But what does a Spriest offer that other range classes don’t?

I want to hit the like button, but it’s at 69 right now and I’m too immature not to find that hilarious.

I’m very casual, and I’m having a blast. Getting the Dragon Glyphs on my main, and if I wanted to, there’s so much to do on my main. Leveling lots of alts in Dragonflight, and Shadowlands.
