Has TSM addon grown to powerful?

I greatly enjoyed the AH revamp when they did it and it looks and feels amazing compared to what we had previously, (I also wouldn’t mind the new AH in TBC/Classic as well.) but as I became more involved with gold making and how the AH is used or exploited by others as well as the “AH PvP” cancel scan meta that developed from this I quickly realized no normal player could possibly compete without an addon as powerful as TSM. The ability to use only a few clicks without checking much of anything to instantly cancel and relist anything you’ve been undercut on not only seems far to powerful but necessary if you want to make ANY sales on a highly competitive server. Listing something for 48hrs and leaving it for days is generally never going to equate to a sale unless you have almost zero competition. There is a lot the addon can provide and do for you and the overwhelming amount of information it can show but simplify it into merely a few buttons to create large sweeping actions without actually every personally interacting with the AH. You are essentially just playing the addon with a few buttons as it does all of the price fixing/checking/listing/buying/canceling/undercutting and any necessary math for min/max sales margins. It is basically required if you want to have any large scale success on the AH. The other problem that has made this even more extensive is the cancel scan meta. My solution to this, which wouldn’t prevent everyone from doing it but would be a larger deterrent to the current meta is you place the MUCH LARGER cost upfront as a Listing Fee. Similar to how items like korthite crystals or prog essence have rather hefty fees but you could go even higher depending on types of items. If you cancel it you lose your fee like you do now but maybe place a 50% cut off the listing fee if it does sell. Obviously this would require tuning on how to price listing fees on items but I think it would be even more likely that a normal player would sell their items than someone who is constantly cancel scanning with barely paying a few silver to ensure their sales in multiple markets. Optionally breaking extremely powerful addons like TSM which I’m sure would set the forums ablaze with gold makers who move BULK non stop all day but would force players to have to use the AH in a more naturally intended way if that’s the part of the game they want to play. Most of them are HIGHLY aggressive players on my server or don’t speak any english at all which makes me wonder if they are doing it for IRL gains. Either way the “AH PvP” is some of the most toxic player behavior I’ve (personally) encountered in WoW in a long while. Hopefully Blizz comes up with a more creative solution than my own but it seems like a hard problem to solve without locking items onto the AH once posted with maybe a 1 or 2 minute grace period to cancel those auctions kinda like how loot has a grace period to trade. Either way the TSM addon arms race seems like it’s getting a bit out of control these days on how many actions can be consolidated and automated for the player to cut other players out of the market. You cancel scan or you die.

Might I suggest some linebreaks… that wall of text is rather painful to read.

Very true.
Sorry.
I ramble when I talk. :expressionless:

I’ve experienced none of this. If you want your items to sell, you put in the work that your competitors are putting in. Or you can list it at 74.99% market value and have a really good chance at selling it quickly.

TSM makes a lot of things easier but people could still do everything they’re doing now if you broke it (but probably slower/more inconviently). Third-party market trackers like the Undermine Journal still exist.

TSM is likely not going anywhere. if you have ah barons on your ah that’s just the price you pay for being on a larger server. you can still make tons of gold though.

It wasn’t the size of the post, it was the lack of paragraphs. And punctuation. It’s just a big ole’ wall of white on brown.

I’m sure it’s a very good read. Rambling is fine. In fact, I’m rambling right now. (sits on hands)

i read it. he assumes that some of the people on his server are gold sellers cuz they apparently don’t speak english… .yikes.

The hero we need. I’m going to blindly believe what you say like a true American.

this is the part i’m talking about. lol

Clearly you haven’t been inside boosting communities on US realms or you would know why it’s a grounded assumption. That’s how I got started making my first few million.

Shaaaaaame!

Although I do hate the app. Lord forbid you ever accidentally post something at the wrong price on an active server. That mess will be snatched up before you can blink.

I don’t think an add on is going to help solo mid win worlds this year.

I say we leave it as is

I guess the only thing that could bring TSM down is the whole thing about “premium” versions with for-pay features being verbotten*, buuuuuuuut…

I would assume if that was going to kick in, it would have long ago. Not sure how this has been rules-lawyer’ed out, but I’m sure it has.

*“1) Add-ons must be free of charge.
All add-ons must be distributed free of charge. Developers may not create “premium” versions of add-ons with additional for-pay features, charge money to download an add-on, charge for services related to the add-on, or otherwise require some form of monetary compensation to download or access an add-on.” - https://eu.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/wow-user-interface-add-on-development-policy/1642

TSM has snapbuy options that will watch items as long as you are scanning to scoop up any of those cheap sales, a player never even has to look up anything that’s worth watching, the addon plays the AH for him.

Yeah the level of automation is why I stopped using it shortly after trying it out. It felt too close to botting. lol I was nervous thinking I might get caught up in a ban wave 6 months down the line just for using it. But alas, I suppose it works within the rules.

I still don’t have time to go that hard on making gold. I can put the same amount of time into work and make enough to buy some WoW tokens if I ever needed more gold. lol
