Has there ever been a legendary shield?

How do the devs pick which base a legendary will be? Are two handed options a consistent pick because they’re easier to make?

I’ve played since TBC and I’ve never seen a legendary shield(Besides Tempest Keep special legendaries) but maybe someone with classic knowledge would know if they had one before that.

I support a legendary shield if we get gladiator stance back.

There hasn’t been, no, but your wish for a Legendary Shield might be granted.

But it’d only be usable by Resto/Elemental Shaman and Holy Paladins.

I mean, is there a reason why? Is it not athletically pleasing enough to have a shield as a legendary?

Why hasn’t there ever been an individual release of a shield legendary?

Because shields in this game are glorified stat sticks, they don’t really do anything. Gladiator stance was the only DPS stance that used a shield and it was removed from the game.

Not only that, but its one of the least accessible item types in the game. You’d be better off making a legendary wand.

Probably because there are only 3 classes who actually use shields: warrior, pally, and shaman.

2 healers and 2 tanks. Ok technically a DPS too. But let’s be real the shield would be for tanks or DPS or healer. Doubt it would be all 3.

Healer and tanks aren’t that popular as a role so not as many people would use them. Where as DPS is all over the place and other weapons have a wider variety of classes to use em.

Heck even an offhand legendary would have more usage than a shield.

Not saying it should never happen, we have an evoker exclusive legendary after all. But yeah.

Bring back gladiator stance with a legendary shield.

Yes, in Legion.

However outside of Legion, no, not at all.

sorry but this sent me
XD

What are people going to get excited over? A shield that sits there or a shiny new weapon with an effect?

Other then the Kael Thas fight and artifacts, its all been weapons.

Some might claim the temporary one from Kael in TBC was the closest.

Skullflame Shield wasnt legendary…but it sure looked it.

I mean, the bigger question is why have tanks STILL not had their own legendary? C’mon man. DPS and healers have had their own a number of times. Where is the tanking one?
It could just be a freakin trinket that only works if the person is in tanking spec.

Thunderfury back in classic often went to tanks first.

why? the effect on that was a dps one…not a defensive one? I didnt play Vanilla …I assume this was just a threat bonus for tanks then? Meh if that’s the case.

A legendary shield would be cool, but its got a few design challenges. It inherently goes to two specs either holy paladin and resto shaman, or prot pally and prot warrior unless they give it two modes which makes it very paladin focused. It would also be awkward in the sense that if prot warriors and prot pallys aren’t meta with a legendary shield why even make the shield? But if the shield makes them meta thats sort of a finger to the other tanks.

That being said being only usable by two specs didn’t stop them from making TWO legendary bows in three patches so there is that. But honestly real legendaries these days are things like the gavel in sepulcher and the rogue daggers where they are just purples with 20% of your damage just chilling on a boss.

Gavel was the real tank legendary of recent times, ask any blood dk.

A tank legendary must be equippable by ALL tanks. That said, it shouldn’t be a weapon then, it should be a trinket.
If it must be a weapon, then I guess it could be customizable to be a 2-H staff/mace/axe OR a 1H with a shield.
